I did not include links because one was an insider article and wasn't sure of the legality.

Each article was on wether the respective player would return or not.

    Some interesting stuff in both.

Here is hoping that Trufant and Asmougha hit the market because it will help keep the price down on Asante or at least offer an alternative.

As far as Moss goes I find it hard to believe he will not be here again.

The franchise tag seems to easy and seems to make too much sense.
Also Moss really comes off as someone who wants to Win a Title at all costs.

For everyone who is trying to ignore spygate These were actually pretty good reads for ESPN stuff.

If you're talking about the Mike Sando article on Moss, I made the mistake of reading that. It starts off OK, and then it veers off into a critique of the SB playcalling. I'm still trying to understand what point, if any, he was trying to make.

I don't think Moss will be franchised for next season but I could see it temporarily for that window when he hits FA and before he can re-sign with is (could be as short as 1 second but until he signs, once FA starts he can leave so I think we'll Franchise him for that period).

Regarding Samuel, I don't think the other two big name CB will help keep Samuel here but they could take the edge off what he gets as he could be the third most desired CB on the market, not the first.

The point he was trying to make and it makes some sense is that we won titles in the past was vastly different than the make up of this team last year. SO he wondered what if any that might have to do with the decision on wether to bring back Moss.

Now while those points can be argued most obvious being it was a fluke that this years formula did not work.

But the other stuff he had to say about wether to bring him back or not was more interesting than the damn spy gate stuff.

What if we let Asante walk, and trade the #7 pick to Atlanta for DeAngeo Hall? He has worn out his welcome a bit down there. I know it's a new coaching staff etc, but obviously Dimtiroff and Pioli have a great relationship, so it's not an out of this world idea. That would give the Falcons two top 7 picks in the draft, and this would really allow them to rebuild and also would allow the Patriots not to give huge money to an unproven rookie. It's make alot of sense for the Patriots, not too sure how much the Falcons would consider it, but maybe they do want to rid themselves of Hall.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying with respect to Moss. I'm pretty sure at this point teams can put the franchise tag on any one player until February 21st. I don't think you can franchise a guy after that point. I might have misread what you were saying, though.

I agree with you on Samuel, but he probably won't necessarily be third to those other two. If neither Asomugha or Trufant get franchised, then I think Samuel will be considered the 2nd best corner, with Trufant 1st and Asomugha 3rd. Not by much, but that seems about right to me.

I'm guessing Asomugha will be franchised, and Trufant won't be. But we'll have to see. The franchise #'s for corners are really high at this point and Seattle might not want to waste the cap money. We'll see.

Hall is an interesting option depending on how Belichick/Pioli see his personality. No way we would give up the #7 pick IMO though. With all the personality transgressions, our #2 is the most I could see someone trading at this point. Especially as he'll be looking for a big, new contract.

We aren't allowed to re-sign Moss until FA begins due to a technicality in the CBA. So if we don't Franchise him, at 12:01am of the first day of FA a team could offer him $20M and he could walk. They could with the tag too, but then they have to pay the overwhelming price of two #1 picks. So I expect us to Franchise him between now and FA starting just to keep the prying fingers of other teams away; then re-sign Moss to a big, but reasonable, contract and remove the tag.

So your solution for replacing samuels is to bring in the next CB who is waiting for their big pay day...

That said I wuold take Hall but not for #7 overall....and I think our 2 would be too low....so it would have to be like a 1 this year for hall and falcons 2 or hall and falcons 1 next year.....Not sure if the Falcons would want to do that though.

If the Patriots trade #7, it would also allow them to spend more money this offseason. I don't think giving up #7 for Hall is too much. He's an elite CB, I personally feel he's better then Asante. Though the character questions do concern me aswell. I'm just throwing it out there as an idea. In a perfect world we could trade our 2nd round for Hall and take Gholston at 7.

More important than keeping other hands off is strengthining you position. Right now we can't re-sign him unitl he is a FA......If we tag him he will not be a normal FA and thus we would have a better position in contract talks. We should than be able to make a cheaper offer because his option would than be to play the year on the tag or take what we offer..there would be no third party involved.

OK, got it now. I thought that for some reason you were saying that essentially they'd just franchise him right before free agency starts, then sign him during that window. Sorry, didn't catch your meaning exactly.

That's what I'd assume will happen too. I didn't realize they can't sign him long-term until FA starts. I'd think that unless they were really disenchanted with him, they'll be franchising him within a week or so.

I don't believe this is correct. I believe that the Pats couldn't re-sign Moss until the end of the season (after the end of the SB). That is when all contracts advance. From the end of the SB until the start of free agency, teams may RE-SIGN their own free agents, but not the free agents of other teams. Teams may also sign players who have been CUT by other teams during this time frame. Players who are re-signed are signing brand new contracts. They are not signing extensions. And it was the signing of an EXTENSION that Moss couldn't do because he had just re-done his contract.

The rule is that you can't renegotiate a contract more than once in any given one year period.

Not sure what the exact reasoning for it is I believe it is the fact that you can not re-negotiate a contract twice in a year but we can not sign Moss to a new deal unitl Free agencey begins as BBfan stated.

Damn, I hope Moss comes back...and we sign him forever... I mean, look how we turned his attitude around! And he's insane! Someone on this board has a really funny sig with him saying, "hell, Im randy moss..." he just fits in...
and I hate that we hafta let one go, but it would have to be samuel. he even says, "i dont feel like i deserve that much attention seeing as I did drop a game-winning interception"

I hate the phrase we haveto let one go....

No we dont if they feel they both are worth what they will have to pay than they will keep both...

problem is they both might be able to get much more than their actual value.

I am still holding onto hope though.

Why try to sign D'Angelo Hall? He's just another guy looking for a huge contract. D'Angelo would not pass the smell test for the Pats. Sign him and you'll be going thru the same circus as with "show me the money" Asante. Great Super Bowl hands of stone Asante.
