From a football fan's perspective, this sucks. Edelman is a great player with heart. Never want to see a guy like him go out with an injury.
From a Jet fan's perspective, doesn't really mean much except that we may not have to hear about the potential perfect season much longer. First off, I hope you guys can't beat Buffalo next week because it helps our wildcard chances. But losing Edelman is huge deal I think. Short of Brady, Edelman is the next most important player. Especially after the loss of Dion.
Don't get me wrong, Gronk is irreplaceable and head-n-shoulders above any other TE in the league. But what I fear the most when facing the Pats is the insanely quick and precise passing game. I mean I'm pretty sure the Pats passed 90% of the plays vs the Jets. Edelman allows that. Perhaps Amendola can fill in decently, but no where nearly as good as Jules. His combination of toughness/skill/heart/knowledge/grit... (I can keep going) is impossible to replace. Add Brady's trust and familiarity with Edelman and it's even a bigger loss. Simply put, I'd much rather face the Pats minus Edelman than Gronk.
Now missing two of your best three options (Edelman and Dion) who also were the top two quick-release options will change the offense a great deal. Makes it almost pedestrian. Don't think the ball will get out nearly as quick or reliably, which then leads to more focus on the Oline. Which isn't a good thing. Brady will begin taking more hits. Gronk will still get his. Perhaps even more now, but I'd be careful not to overwork him.
From a fantasy player's persective, MOTHER @#%^$#@%%$%^^#$%#$@#@#$#^%^&!!!! I'm screwed! In PPR, Jules is the freakin MAN. Irreplaceable. But I thought I was slightly OK cause I had Michael Floyd and he was blowing up last night. Until he pulls a hammy. SOB!!! But I also have Gronk, so hopefully his targets increase a bit.
Overall, this sucks and I'm sorry to see him go down. Edelman (and what he allows the Pats O to do) is great to watch and I think this kills any shot of an undefeated season. Figure this puts at least three of the remaining games in question (yes, including the Jets in Jersey if we can right the ship). But overall, Super Bowl wise... no effect. May even help if the Pats can keep Brady and Gronk healthy. Edelman will come back fresh for the playoffs and kick ass!
