Curran with a nice takedown of slimeball Fisher

Don't wanna defend Fisher because he is a giant asshat and a perennial loser but with the rules as they stand it's certainly true that the refs have unfortunately too much leeway when it comes to PI calls. And making that reviewable is opening a can of worms.

Now, that being said the easiest solution to this problem is not what the NFL is proposing and just carrying on with something that is clearly broken but instead rework the rulebook to be something that makes it possible for games that are officiated by different refs to still be consistent in terms of rulings.

If this means that things become even more drastic in terms of contact or they decide to go the other way and allow more contact I don't really care about. But for ****s sake lets have some consistency. Because ultimately the only thing that's worse than one of those soft DPI calls is if its only called on one team and the other gets away with it.
It's like having a long winded, vague law that doesn't actually define speeding... define speeding; and then having some putz defend not using radar guns because the law doesn't clearly define speeding.

The basic problem with all pass interference rules starts when you differentiate the rights of defenders and receivers. Both should have the same rights and same set of rules, before the ball is thrown and after. Interference should be about the same set of behaviors regardless of whether your team happens to possess the ball or not.

As the game has evolved, there have been times when offenses and defenses have developed a tactical advantage. Rather than just letting that evolve, the NFL tries to resolve the issue by giving new advantages to the side that's "down" at that particular time in history. Over time naturally, and through meddling, things swing back in the other direction, and they put in new rules to try and mitigate that. Soon, it becomes like the federal tax code, a complex mess that makes nobody happy but keeps things predictable.

Time to start from scratch. Everyone has equal rights to the ball and to physical space. If you push, shove someone out of the way, or grab, you've interfered.
