Was Chung the spark that was missing from the Patriots in Cleveland game?

Chung has had an incredible season so far. He is out there killing guys and firing up the defense. Let's not forget what he did against Miami (blocked field gold and punt and returned an INT). Then 13 tackles against the Ravens and some huge hits.

I am surprised that no one seemed to notice what a warrior he was last Sunday. He was sacrificing his body against the Steelers. I think he was whacked pretty hard 3 times (slow getting up) but managed to come back.

    :agree:

I'm worried that he may end up like Bob Sanders. Smaller guy laying wood consistently.

I agree with your post, but just an FYI: Chung is not an unsung hero on this message board. Nearly everyone realizes his value to the team. He is already my favorite player on the defense.

I do agree with the poster who hopes he is not Bob Sanders II. He plays with reckless abandon. I'm not sure how the Troy Polamalu-MVP hype started this season, but in my opinion injuries have put him down a notch. This isn't an observation from one game, but from several I've seen. Troy just does not have the same play making skills he used to have, although he still a very good player.

After attending the Pats-Steelers game, I can attest to that, as well as the fact that alot of Steelers fans are starting to think the same. A couple guys behind me were dogging on Troy all game long, saying he just sat there in his deep zone basically all game and never made a big play. A bunch of other Steelers fans in the area were also yelling his name in anger, wanting him to step it up.

I love Chung, and he's already become one of my favorite players, but I have no idea who I'd call out as the defensive MVP: it's between Wilfork, Mayo, and Chung, but they're all pretty indispensable.

This defense has gone from having sweet bugger all to guys you can build a defense around now.

    1. Vince Wilfork
    2. Jerod Mayo
    3. Patrick Chung
    4. Devin McCourty

I really cannot wait to see the 2012 version of this defense. It's going to be Belichick "crush your enemies see them driven before you" nasty.

We will never forget those guys, but give this new nucleus a little time and we will all be wearing new T-shirts.

already got the wilfork jersy. but man is chung good if you ever watched tapes of him in oregon you would have known. but this defense is good and young. sanders steping up to and arrington, like him or hate him he is not costing us games! and covering very good players while laying some hits.

This thread was right above the Pierre Woods thread, and I read it as "Chung: The spark that fires up the Wood?"

    I was confused ;)

Wilfork has been an absolute monster. I'm having a hard time splitting between Mayo and Wilfork.

All the guys mentioned are having excellent seasons but for me Mayo is in a class all of his own. I personally think he should be the NFL DPOY if he keeps on doing what he is doing, he has just been awesome.

I'm not so sure I am willing to push aside Wilfork's contribution. Some of the things he's done this season have been flat out awesome to watch. I agree that Mayo is having a ripping year.

The more players who have good seasons the better the Patriots will play. It's an exciting time to watch this defense evolve. I felt that way before the season kicked off.
