By the numbers: Patricia's offense downright offensive

Speaking of Thuney... He made the AFC pro bowl squad - again, this time as top backup to starters Quentin Nelson of the bloodClots & should've been Patriot Joel Bitonio of the Brownies.

Matt Patricia’s offense. Do the WRs practice the plays? Do they need a Hell Cat before Mac makes a visual audible? Where was Troy after this play?
so Patricia's now has had issues with
a) Malcom Butler
b) Kendrick Bourne
c) Mac Jones
d) the buffet server at Hibachi Buffet

am i missing anyone?

Why are we surprised by this? The problem is greater than Patricia, and he’s bad enough. Coming into this season, all the offensive assistants combined had a cumulative one year of experience as an offensive position coach. That was Joe Judge’s one year as WR coach/ST coach in 2019. How did anyone expect this to work with that much inexperience? Especially someone who values experience as much as Bill Belichick.

The issue is that he doesn't open up the playbook often. By the time he opens things up we are down big…
What playbook got opened in the second half of the Cincy game? Wildly chucking up Hail Marys and haymakers? Nothing that even remotely looked like anything other than prayers. Certainly nothing that can be made part of any reasonable gameplan.

Not to give a full defense of Patricia, but part of the reason (and only part of it) for the type of offense being called by Patricia is that ****ty OL play limits the playbook. Just take a look at last night's game with the Bucs for confirmation of that.

Patricia should meet with the OL coach and get to the bottom of it

This ridiculous stat includes the two years before Patricia.

That is a little deceiving since when the Pats won last year, they usually blew out their opponents. Last year, they had the third largest margin of victory in the league after the Bills and Cowboys. And of their losses last year, only Miami (first game, 17 points) and Tampa (19 points) scored less than 27 points.

Not sticking up for Putin Patricia but this personnel has a clear ceiling in more ways than one. Bourne and Meyers work the same areas of the field and you can add Agholor to that at times with all the crossers, seam and digs he runs.

This offense is desperately missing a real slot that doesn't require scheme to get open and a legit deep threat.

Maybe that's marcus jones next year? Or is he more valuable on defense?

That includes all 3 seasons. What's deceiving about it? It's pretty straight forward, unless the defense held the opponent to 17 points, they had a 0.143 winning %. To your point, those blow-outs last season are what raised the avg per game. They averaged 27.2 ppg but they only had 5 scores higher than 27 and 12 scores lower. Both the median and mode were 25.0 ppg which would've put them at #14.

I'm focusing on defense bc that's his bread n butter. Just easier for him to excel and reach that potential he's already familiar with. I am however giving him 30 mins each practice to work with the WR corp and sit in on a few meetings. Definitely developing him if you can just take it slow.

He's already performing above and beyond. Don't want to overload him plus he's a small kid. He doesn't need any more wear n tear than he's already getting.

I think 10-15 snaps a game next year is plenty. Really take it slow and steady like you did Edleman. Jones is pretty far along for a rookie. He's been amazing. So impressed and i thought he could be special.
