We are going to hear in the next few days a bunch of paeans to Borges' legacy at the Globe... "He was a must read" "He wouldn't carry BB's water," "He wrote to the beat of his own drummer", yada yada yada. The truth is, Borges was a pale shadow of his idol McDonough, whom he aped in every aspect, from his Parcells' love to his supposed underworld connections, which Borges took pride in flaunting as a kind of bona fides of sportswriting legitimacy. The sad truth is, Borges was not a very good writer. He was not a must read. He was a hackneyed lazy cheat who deserved to get dumped years ago. He wrote with a poisoned pen and now he has to swallow a bitter pill. If only all corrupt idols crumbled as easily as the Broadsheet Bully, who in the end had a jaw of glass.
