The truth is, Borges was a pale shadow of his idol McDonough, whom he aped in every aspect, from his Parcells' love to his supposed underworld connections, which Borges took pride in flaunting as a kind of bona fides of sportswriting legitimacy. The sad truth is, Borges was not a very good writer. He was not a must read. He was a hackneyed lazy cheat who deserved to get dumped years ago. He wrote with a poisoned pen and now he has to swallow a bitter pill. If only all corrupt idols crumbled as easily as the Broadsheet Bully, who in the end had a jaw of glass.

Will McDonough spoke his mind, for better or for worse. He called it as he saw it, and people will generally respect someone like that. He was a fine reporter as well as a fine columnist.

Borges decided his career path would be to act as a contrarian in every way. How can you respect the opinion of someone who simply sings the exact same tune every single time..?

Wil could be an a/hole as well...but never could one question his integrity or his sources. He always seemed to break stories and he was almost always right as well. Will had a direct line to many owners, GM's and even Rozelle and Tagliabue.

Talk about a must read column - his Saturday AM and then Sunday football columns were awesome.

Funny, over the past 6 months, I had actually come to tolerating RB for what he is...anti Patriot all the way, yet, he did come up with some bits of news now and again, especially from his old Raider contacts. Slightly more than the blind squirrel finding the nut.

He is not going away though, he will continue to jab via guest spots on radio and TV. I would imagine he will be picked up by CBSsportsline, Fox or desperate on line sports desk

I think to some extent they all came up in the business hoping to one day be as influential as Will. But Will was a dinosaur from a dying era. The GM's and HC's a writer can now influence or manipulate because he's smarter or more savvy then them are the dying dinasaurs of their breed. Owners and GM's and coaches are evolving as the business of the NFL and even it's game have. It's almost comical now to see a columnist like Ron trying to make the case that he knows more than those of Belichick/Pioli/Kraft's ilk do. The guys in his rolodex are by and large failures eager to tell their sour grapes side of a story. Or master manipulators themselves looking to use the eager writer. What he wanted was for BB to "respect" him, and instead he dismissed him. That more than anything is what stuck in Ron's craw. So he basically went thinly veiled postal where BB is concerned. Wednesday Felger was trying to get him to admit that just one thing he was adamant would happen clearly has not - that FA wouldn't want to come here let alone take less to do so, for long. He couldn't admit it. The nickname Wrong suited him not just because he was - everyone is now and again - but because he could never genuinely admit when he was.
