Brady and Ben Watsons Communication

Did anyone think that during the season alot of audibles that brady did watson seemed to never know what to do? It looked like on alot of audibles during games brady would always have to go up to watson and tell him where to be.. I seem to remember us burning alot of time outs for things like this.. hopefully its watson just being still young and he'll learn and be better next year..

This is exactly the reason why keeping Givens is imperative. The QB-WR connection is great. Watson is going to be a force next year, and a force that defenses are going to have to game plan for.

Result:
Pass, Incomplete, 5 yard out, Fauria, pass underthrown under pressure from M. Lynch and G. Warren, tipped at line by M. Myers, dropped by Fauria.

Offense:

5 WR, Faulk wide left (in motion), Givens left slot, Fauria left wing, Watson right wing, Branch wide right

Defense:

3-3-5 nickel, DE over Fauria stands up before the snap, ROLB pressure coverage on Watson, Lynch showing blitz just outside of Watson, CBs 5-7 yards off the line.

Blocking:

Ashworth is easily beaten outside by the DE Warren, who slams Brady along with Lynch during the throw

Mankins couldn’t exactly contain the NT Myers, who chipped Mankins left and jumped up to possibly make a tip on the ball

Hochstein was in the process of getting beaten inside by a stunting DE Veal

Neal and Gorin push around the blitzing ROLB Gold

Coverage:

Faulk goes deep, with the CB staying stationary and releasing Faulk at 10 yards

Givens takes a 5 yard out with Faulk’s CB in light coverage from behind

Fauria fakes the LOLB/DE Brown inside before quickly turning outside and having to turn back inside to catch the possibly tipped ball, where Fauria makes the catch on the ground, one that the officials huddled to talk about before ruling it incomplete

Watson goes right and draws coverage from the MLB

Branch draws coverage from the other CB, Bailey

Analysis:

Before the snap, the Pats were having problems communicating, with Brady making adjustments with the DE standing up and Lynch jumping around and pointing on the edge. Watson and Fauria both leaned in to listen. Watson probably should have picked up Lynch on the edge, which wouldn’t have mattered anyway since Ashworth couldn’t block the DE on the other side. Brady was sandwiched and forced to make a throw that Fauria had to turn around and dive to catch, and a throw that might have been tipped at the line. Poor blocking strikes again.


But then of course Watson is pretty damn good at doing this, not to mention the hustle play in Denver:

Pass, Watson, 5 yard out, 63 yds., TOUCHDOWN.

Offense:

Shotgun 4 WR, Davis wide left, Watson right wing, Branch right slot, Givens wide right, Faulk RB to left of Brady in shotgun.

Hochstein and Neal take care of the other DE, before Neal breaks off to get an arm on the blitzing ROLB as Brady is throwing

Gorin gets a blitz from the NB, and simply gets turned inside, but the NB can’t get to Brady in time. It’s shameful for a 300-pound OT to be almost knocked off his feet by a 185-pound NB, and it’s been a trend for Gorin lately

Faulk comes up and picks up the LOLB’s blitz

Coverage:

Davis takes some type of deep route, his CB nowhere near Watson’s run

Watson takes a 5 yard out route underneath the floating MLB Peterson, breaks Peterson’s tackle at the NE 45, is knocked off-balance by the FS just after breaking free from Peterson’s tackle, stumbles to the sideline where his momentum breaks free from the SS’s tackle at midfield. From there, he takes it down the sideline and turns inside at the Jax 35, where he out-runs LB #51, CB #25, DE #93, CB #27, and DE #97.

Givens laid a block on CB #27 Mathis but lost it as Watson ran by

Branch couldn’t even catch up to Watson’s run to make any blocks

Analysis:

This was simply all Watson here. There were virtually no blocks to help him out, only a 7-man rush from the defense that was either picked up or ineffective due to the fairly quick throw from Brady. Watson broke 3 tackles before outrunning 5 defenders. ‘Nuf ced.

But what jumps out at me ... is, once again ... the excellence of the careful breakdown by pats1 and his sidekicks.

And then this:

Two years ago, when the club paid Gorin his full contract just to keep him on the ps ... i smiled and said to myself, "This guy Gorin has got to be something coming along!" But then ALL this year he seemed to play ... like the major reason we all want BB to burn a high pick for an OL.

Boo, Brandon! What did you do with that prime prospect of ours?

Gorin can’t hold the edge against the DE Trevor Pryce, but the tackle has already been made by the time Pryce gets over there

And from JUST the 3rd quarter of the Jax game:

Run, Faulk, left tackle, 0 yds.

Gorin can’t even engage in a block with the DE Wiley on the edge, who gave Gorin a few swim moves before following the run

1st and 10 NE 40
Pass, Branch, Incomplete, 10 yard hook, pass deflected at line.

Gorin doesn’t slide quickly enough with the DE, turning Gorin around, and Brady would have likely gotten sacked by the DE Wiley if Stroud hadn’t forced the throw

1st and 10 NE 29
Run, Dillon, left tackle, 6 yds.

Gorin has a nice block at first but puts very little effort into it, allowing the DE Wiley to disengage and use Neal/Stroud as a roadblock, trapping Gorin on the other side of the line and allowing Wiley to get over to the run and drag Dillon down after FS Deon Grant comes up and stops Dillon’s momentum

2nd and 8 NE 38
Run, Dillon, up the middle, 2 yds.

Gorin brings his head down in a block to the outside hip of the DE, allowing that DE to step inside and easily shed Gorin’s block and help push Dillon back on the tackle

1st and 10 NE 19
Run, Dillon, left guard, 1 yd.

Gorin simply can’t control the DE on the edge after a quick push, but Dillon is already on the ground on the other side of the line before that DE can get over there
