Do you know what "giving the impression" means?

Yeah, in your case it seems to mean you know more than the front office people.

It means that it appears they are doing nothing while their competition is making great strides.

To quote Einstien, "Never confuse motion with action."

Did you read the entire thing I wrote? Obviously not.

Yes, I did. In retrospect, it proved to be a waste of time.

Player acquisition: Ok, sign the best kicker available (Vinatieri). How bout starting with that?

I applaud your "start". Now, imagine you're the team GM. You gonna pay this guy $3½ million a year for however long he wants the contract? And if you do, how are you going to present this picture to other, deserving players on your team (i.e., the rest of them)?

They're doing "nothing" because that's what conditions warrant. They are not "asleep at the switch", and they most assuredly are not "whistling past the graveyard".

They seem to have a much firmer grasp on reality than you do.

Entertain us. Show us some more player acquisition moves....

Here's my idea

Dump all of your leadership types (McGinest, Vinatieri), dump a young receiver in his prime (Givens), and sit back while your rivals arm themselves. It seems a one armed drunken monkey would do a better job than "the genius" is doing this offseason.

If I were a Dolphin fan, I'd be pretty happy to see that Danny Ainge has been hired to run the Patriots this offseason.

As of Mar15 any assesment is menaingless other than to have fun.
At end of last year Fins were coming together and playing more team
ball and gaining confidence. There Oline had improved and they actually
had an offense that could score. With that team they could win 9 games
without a stretch.

Looking at this Unit by Unit may give some idea

Miami What's changed
QB
- out: Frerotte, Rosenfels
- in: Culpepper
Oline -
- out: mcIntosh - OLT was a starter , McDougle ORT, McKinney C
- in: Shelton -OLT
RB
- Out: R.Williams
Front 7
- out: Seau
- in: Sedrick Hodge
DBs
- out: T.Jones, S.Madison, Howard, Schulters
- in: Andre Goodman

Offense:
they have a better QB if he recovers. Shelton may be
an upgrade over McIntosh so Oline may be a little better.
I think loss of Ricky is not trivial. lets see if Brown can do it alone.
Still have thier play makers at WR and TE. Booker is getting good.

Defense
No big change in front 7 except they are getting OLD,
Taylor, Traylor, Carter, Holliday, Thomas are all over 30.
DBs are OK. A.Goodman should step right in for S.Madison.
Tillman are still decent. CB T.Daniels first year did very well
and will improve and has size.
Schulters needs to be replaced or brought back.

New England, What's changed

QB
out: Flutie
Oline
- out: Neal and Ashworth
RB
-out: Evans
WR
- out: Givens, Davis, Brown, Dwight
TE
- Out: C.Fauria
Front 7
- out: McGinest, C.Brown, Chatham
DBs
- out: Starks, C.Scott, Stone

PK: Vinatieri, Adam

Offense - at present PATs Wr core has been hit hard. This will change but
right now it's Deion, Bethel and Bam. Of course the TE and RBs are still good.
Oline can fuction well as it is with maybe Kaczur playing RG.
Miami WRs has a definite advantage at present.

Defense: DBs are OK especially with Hawkins resigned and Rodney coming
back.
Front seven will still be a force even wihtout Willie and it has lots of youth.
Bruschi is getting a little older but will be fine.

As of March 15th:
On Defense: I'd give PATs the edge - youth wins here.
On Offense: without a solid PATs WR core and with Miami's Oline improving somewhat.
I'd still give the edge to the PATs with it's TEs and RBs and a young and
experinced Oline and great QB. Miami will have a decent offense this year
IF and that's a big IF, Culpepper is healthy and they can protect him.
If I were Miami I'd be real concern about the front seven age factor
because it will bite them if not this year, maybe next.

Bottom line .... Miami still has a ways to go to catch up.

On opening day, I want this thread, and this quote, ressurected.

On the final day of the season, I want Jacky's comments on this thread, and on what transpires in reality, to be held up for all to see. If it turns out he's right, and I'm wrong (!), I'll publically glorify him to the heavens.

But....

Most of all, at that time, I want to hear him call "the genius" a "one-armed drunken monkey".

Once that happens, I'll back off...

Thanks for taking the time to lay all of that out !!

It's going to be fun to see what Belichick does to Culpepper in the two games next season. Anyone want to bet that Culpepper will not get tied into knots ??

I'll be the happiest guy in town if you get to post that quote next February.

Not to pile on, but asking this question is akin to Pete Carrol saying that "if only we could have played another quarter we could have beaten them..."

Games aren't 5 quarters long and no games are won in March.
Amen. This reminds me of a poker tournament. Some guys jump in and go all in for a few rounds and make ridiculous bets while the props sit on th esidelines getting a feel for the tble before jumping in. The draft is six and a half weeks away and the season starts in about six months. I'd rather be sitting here with $20 million in cap space than blowing it overpaying badly and messing up the salary structure.
Suppose they gave Givens $5 million per year, then what do you give Branch and Seymour???? The way I see it, they (Pioli and BB and Kraft) put a value on someone and if that player sees himself as worth more (Givens, AV), it's sayonara...(though AV may be back after he sniffs what's out there)
Just my $0.02
------------------------------------------

My nightmare-------
" Mr. Pioli, there's a Mr. Rosenhaus on line 1 to discuss a client of his that he thinks you may be interested in signing."

interesting point.......

No. I think Miami was quite overrated at the end of last season, their win streak was against the dregs of the league - other than SD and talk was that Miami's OL coach gave Miami all of SD's audibles as he was in SD the year before.

Let's see Culpepper 1) be healthy and 2) be as effective as he was in 2004 before I'm the least big concerned.

"other than SD and talk was that Miami's OL coach gave Miami all of SD's audibles as he was in SD the year before."

Interesting point here....i didn't realize this.......that may explain why the chargers were getting no time to do anything offensively......and that dumba$$ sh*ttyhymer didn't even have the common sense to change the audibles....what a jacka##!!!!!

To pound that metaphor: Unfortunately, some of those guys who play hard and gamble in the opening rounds of a poker tournament accumulate a very healthy stack of chips that carries them a long way. And the patient, tight 'pros' find that they don't get any decent cards by the time they decide to start getting involved.
