Hi all, excuse the lengthy post…. I understand that this topic have been raised before, but I'm Just trying to gather some thoughts about my specific situation….
I’ll be at the AFCCG and need some advice from the regulars here. I’ve been to Gillette numerous times before but always drove in, which as everyone knows is a total PITA to get in and out.
My co-worker suggested taking the train from Providence or one of the stations along the way from Providence to Gillette.
Parking per car at Gillette is $40… Train is only $15 (plus parking, which I can’t imagine be more than $10-$15), so let’s call it a wash money-wise.
The train leaves 30 minutes after the game and hits Mansfield half hour later, with 3 more stations along the way, before getting into Providence 30 minutes past Mansfield, so total travel time is up to an hour if parked all the way out at Providence.
I’ll be coming from lower Fairfield county, CT, so if I take the train, I’ll need to choose a train stop to leave my car at.
Few questions:
1. Park vs. train: What are your thoughts? Getting out of Gillette by car and taking the train back to my car, time wise, will probably be the same (unless I board the train at one of the closer stations along the way)
2. I’m thinking about the Mansfield station, as it’s the closest to Gillette and will allow me to get back to my car the fastest.
3. Is the Mansfield station safe to leave the car at? Crowded on game days? Any other station(s) I should consider?
The way I see it (from past experience), if I were to drive to Gillette, after the game, it will take me 10-15 minutes just to get back to my car (we tailgate at the dirt lots located across Rt. 1), plus another 45-60 minutes easily just to get out of the area.
On the other hand, I can take a train that leaves 30 minutes after the game and will take me 30 to 60 minutes to get to my car, depending on the station I parked at….
What would you do?
Any thoughts, input, etc. will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
