A look at the defensive snaps from Mike Reiss.

  • Arrington, Mayo, Moore and carter were on the field for every defensive play.
  • Carter, Ihedigbo and Wilfork were out there for over 90% of the snaps.
  • White, Ninkovich, Molden, Adams, and Anderson were on the field for over 50% of the snaps.
  • Love, Tarpinian, Ellis, Deaderick and McCourty got 21-26 out of 72 snaps.
  • Warren, Edelman, Cunningham, Brace and ventrone had 10 or fewer snaps.

Defensive snaps: Carter's workload - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Given Andre Carter’s big game (4.5 sacks), it is notable to point out a slight wrinkle in how the Patriots used him. Instead of taking him off in sub packages at times, and having Rob Ninkovich drop down from linebacker to defensive end, Carter stayed on. His 70 snaps were a season high. …

Sterling Moore is a rookie free agent from SMU, but he’s a good reflection on what Bill Belichick said after the game about the game not being too big for most players on the team. Who figured he’d play every snap at safety?. …

Also notable was the steadying presence of safety James Ihedigbo. Jets coach Rex Ryan said, “I thought [he] played extremely well.” …

Longtime special teamer Tracy White played as a sub linebacker over Gary Guyton (0 snaps), and his 50 snaps were easily a season high. The Patriots basically combined White and rookie free agent Jeff Tarpinian into one player –

White playing in sub and Tarpinian in the base 4-3 on the weakside. …

Kyle Arrington continues to do good things at cornerback, going wire to wire and finishing with a pass defended. …

The Patriots leaned on defensive lineman Vince Wilfork heavily, and since they were loaded up along the line and were in sub a lot, that meant limited snaps for others on the interior like Kyle Love, Gerard Warren and Ron Brace. …

Mark Anderson, who helped boost the pass rush at rush end, played a season-high 42 snaps, all in sub packages. His previous high was 34 in the season opener. ...

Jerod Mayo, for the second week in a row, led the defensive huddle and played every snap. …

Jermaine Cunningham’s four snaps came on the final drive of the game, as did Julian Edelman’s five snaps as a slot corner.

  • Gronkowski and Branch were on the field for over 90% of the plays
  • Welker and Hernandex on the field for 53 or more of the 69 snaps
  • Woodhead was leading RB with 32 snaps
  • Both Faulk (9) and Ridley (8) had fewer snaps at RB than Solder (11) did at TE

Offensive snaps: Woodhead lead RB - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

The running back rotation was skewed by the Patriots going to the no-huddle/hurry-up package for two long drives in the third and fourth quarters. Of those 21 snaps in the hurry-up, Woodhead took 14 and Faulk 7. Add in Woodhead playing seven snaps in the hurry-up at the end of the second quarter, and that starts to reflect why he was the "lead" back in this game. Woodhead ran hard at the end of the game. ...

At receiver, Edelman's 12 snaps were a season-high as he rotated in for Welker at the end of the game. ...

Ochocinco played 14 snaps in the first half and only 2 in the second half, a result of not being part of the hurry-up. ...

Gronkowski's high playtime total, which has been the norm this year, highlights how he's part of almost every package.

Shocked that Sterling Moore played every defensive snap. Hoping this guy is a diamond in the rough.

Moore every snap? Wow...

Woodhead fan here
HOWEVER I fault BOB for having him in the lineup on 3rd down with the Pats inside the 5. Herr Vollmer blows the blocking scheme and little Woodie gets mowed down by the Jets LB who gets a safety on TFB. BOB shoulda had BJGE or even Faulk (who is past his sell bt date) in the lineup as better pass rush blockers.

Yeah, that's crazy. An undrafted rookie came in and started at a position that he didn't play in college, and played every single snap!

At least we found out Sterling Moore can hit. Now Sterling Moore needs to work on his aim.

I wonder if Guyton getting 0 snaps was matchup specific.

Hope it was evaluation specific. He's not one of the better players on this team.

I've always felt that Guyton was a reserve LB with maybe some spot-duty in passing downs but to be completely passed over for Tarpinian, Niko and White was surprising. I had assumed he was hurt but clearly the coaching staff now feels the same way as I do which is that he should not be playing more than 20 snaps a game- max.
