    SA-SA-SA SIGN THE BEAST!

lol, thats pretty fast, im sure he'll get drafted in the mid to late rounds. If not, the Patriots should bring him in for training camp to try out.

BTW, haven't we learned from Chad Jackson and Bethel Johnson that 40 times mean jack garbage.

Its NOT speed its acceleration. The guys the get my juices going are the ones who have spectacular 3 cone times. That's a drill that shows how well a player accelerates. Its a much better indication whether a player can get separation. IIRC Deion Branch had a very pedestrian 40 time but the 2nd fastest 3 cone time.

Also, I read last week that there was a measurement that they can take during the 40 that is a much better indication of how a player will project. I can't remember exactly what it was, but what I do remember that while Jerry Rice had a very disappointing 40 time, he was the 2nd fastest in NFL history in this measurement that I can't remember. I'd appreciate it if someone with a better memory can help me out here.

BOTTOM LINE - its not about the speed, its all about the acceleration.....body control, hand/eye coordination, and hands. ;)

With all due respect. Anyone with a 4.19 40 is going to get some separation. It's just whether it's legit or not, i looked at the highlights and he seemed ok but i didn't see a guy otherworldly quick or anything FWIW.

You're talking about the Flying 20, Brother Ken: his time in the second half of the "40".

Somebody just recently posted a list of players who topped the 3 cone among WRs in recent years. Most of them were bums while quite a few top WRs had pretty crappy numbers in it.

Good separation is determined by a few things. The first is how well they get off the line. That is usually determined by the 10 yard split, the Broad jump and the Vertical. The second is how well they get into and out of their cuts. Do they lose any speed in doing so. You can get a good representation of that from the short shuttle and 3 cone.

I'd be very interested in knowing those numbers for Sinkfield.

The 3 cone and short shuttle tells you more about how well a guy gets into and out of his breaks and whether or not he keeps his speed up while doing so.

BTW, Deion Branch had a 4.47- 40 yard, with a 10 yard split of 1.57. His 3 cone was 6.71 and his short shuttle was 3.76.

Josh Boyce (TCU), Da'Rick Rodgers (Tenn St.), Ryan Spadola (Lehigh), Ryan Swope (Texas A&M), T.J. Moe (Missouri), Marquess Wilson (Washington St) all ran better than 6.8 in the 3 cone at the Combine.

T.J. Moe is the only receiver who ran better than 4.0 in the short shuttle. But he ran a 4.74 in the 40. Moe also had a 10 yard split of 1.57.
