Artificial crowd noise at Indy? (MERGED)

C'mon folks, listen to that WBCN feed that was posted on sendspace.

The skipping noise just isn't there.

As much as I want this to be true, I think it's a CBS-only audio problem with their crowd audio feed.

Just announced on EEI...was a CBS tape loop problem ONLY CBS....not piped in..

agreed, nothing will be done about this. there's no way to prove that it happened like capturing a video camera on the sidelines. We'd have to ask the NFL to send a guy up to the dj booth during the game.

If the pressure from the fans, forces the talking heads (ala Peter King) to pressure the nfl, there might be some reaction. Remember in every organization there is always somebody who hates his boss and is willing to drop a dime.

This has a chance to come out. If Goodell ignores this, he will be written of by Kraft, and that will be the end of him.

Why haven't all these audiogate threads been merged into one? Mods, can this be done? There are newer ones that were merged, but they should have been merged with this one.

Just heard on WEEI that CBS is reporting it was a problem with their broadcast, not anything done by the Colts.

Colin Cowherd just announced he will be airing audio tape on his show of this pumping crowd noise!! Nice.

Re: About the crowd noise...

Have you listened to the WBCN and Colts radio feeds?

I'd love for this to be true, but i don't hear that on the radio feeds.

The crowd noise goes down dramatically when Moss makes the catch but...It's because there's no sense shouting to upset Brady anymore and the crowd is disappointed when...Moss makes the catch.

Listen to the radio feeds, they're in the other thread.
I would doubt BCN has the number of mics to pic up things that CBS has.

The local (arizona) espn radio morning radio show just played the tape (Doug and Wolf show) and they were pretty convinced that there was something electronic. they played the tape and it dosent sound like a record skipping or anything it sounds like a low idling sound like a constant woo woo woo woo sound. haha that was my technical reproduction. anyway it was pretty damning evidence at least the way it was presented here.

Some tips for listening to the bcn feed, get decent speakers, run it through winamp, find the equalizer, crank everything down other then 600 and 1khz, crank those up, and listen to the pretty diesel truck idling noise.

It's not as obvious but it is there

C'mon. Think about what you're saying here... The noise, which is so obvious on the CBS broadcast, needs to be manipulated in order to hear it on the BCN audio feed. Remember, the whole idea behind manipulating the crowd noise in the first place is to be so loud that the Offense can't hear the snap counts. I find it kind of hard to believe that you wouldn't be able to hear it clearly on the radio broadcast.

I've worked in radio for years. This one just doesn't pass the smell test to me. Sorry. As I said, I want this to be true.

Greg Aiello told Arnold on WEEI that the NFL is going to investigate the Indy feedback noise incident.

Dale & Holly are about to play the sound bite in question!

even Dan patrick replayed it.

On ESPN? Really?

Patrick is no longer with ESPN.. but turn on ESPN radio, Cowherd is absolutely killing the officials AND said he is going to play an audio clip that proves there was artificial crowd noise.

Re: About the crowd noise...

Reverb is a type of feedback. It's short for reverberation, which is what the sound is doing in the loop that is created. There are different intensities created by how much of the sound from speaker is being picked back up by the mic.

Reverberation is a product of the reflections of audio waves as they carreen around an environment with reflective surfaces. Here's an attempt to spell it. If the word GO is shouted, and reverb was produced it would look like this:

GOOOOOOO

The first two letters are the spoken word and the decreasing "O"s are the word tailing off in volume. An echo would look like this:

GOGOGOGOGOGOGO

Here the word is reflecting off very hard and flat reflective surfaces. I don't doubt there is reverb present in every stadium and perhaps low volume echos. This is not what was heard on the recording though because reflective are always there and cannot be turned down. They would always be heard and would always sound the same albeit at varying intensities.

I was at the Pittsburg - Colts divisional in Indy a couple of years ago, the one when Pitts won it all... My son and I were in the nosebleeds in the endzone. I distinctly remember telling my son to look slightly up and to the right where the noise was coming from, definitely the rafters. No doubt in my mind at all there is piped in noise there. We were 3-5 rows from the top and the noise was definitely coming from above us and to the right where there were no seats.

You were 3 to 5 rows from the top and you wonder why you heard noise coming back down at you? It's called a dome. The roof holds the sound in and reflects it back down. That how enclosed stadiums are louder than open air.

If you can't hear it from the radio broadcast and those at the game did not hear it, then it had to be a CBS issue. I know most here hate the Colts and want to see someone go down, but this is really reaching.
