Rank the Patriot offenses and defenses This decade

I would say that the 11 pass rush wasn't the worst that we've had. Andre Carter and Mark Anderson both recorded double digit sacks that season.

Our worst pass rush season was definitely 2010. You know your PR is bad when Mike Wright is your leading sacker with 5.5.

You are right. 2011 was better than 2010. Carter and Anderson actually did a decent enough job.

Offense:
1. 2011
2. 2010
3. 2012
4. 2014
5. 2015
6. 2013

Defense:
1. 2014
2. 2015
3. 2013
4. 2012
5. 2010
6. 2011

The defensive rankings would stay the way they are, but the offensive rankings could change depending on what day of the week it was and what mood I was in at the time. The 2014 offense, for example, was not as potent as the three listed ahead of them but they got it done when it mattered the most - the postseason.

Some people are already forgetting how dominant the 2014 offense was against some of the top defenses in the league, including in the postseason. The stats may not point it out (due to injuries/new players/Oline issues in the first 4 games) but from game 5 on that offense was spectacular. Easily the best this decade.

Bear with me after I state this: 2012 was not only the Patriots best offensive season other than 2007, it was one of the greatest offensive shows in the history of the NFL. Check this out:

They scored the 4th most points in NFL history at 34.8 points a game.

The next closest team was Peyton Manning's Broncos who scored 30.0 pts a game.

That year, Adrian Petersen won MVP, with Aaron Rodgers finishing a close second. Why not Brady in 2nd? Here is what Rodgers did: 39 TDs and 8 INTs. Brady? 34 TDs and 8 INTs. The higher TD ratio gave Rodgers a higher rating.

But let's look behind the numbers a little bit.

Brady threw for 4827. Rodgers threw for 4295.

The Patriots ran for 2184 yards. Green Bay ran for 1702 yards.

The amazing stat that takes this over the top for Brady and the Patriots, and which shows you how biased stats are sometimes?

The Patriots scored 26 rushing TDs. The Packers? 9. 9!!!!!!!

Think if Brady had converted even a third of those rushing TDs into Passing TDs. He'd be up in the 40s. With a lot more yards gained. The Patriots essentially passed the ball all the way downfield, and when they made it to the opposition's 5 yard line, they'd jam the ball in by running.

Remember when Cam Newton was given all the credit this year in his MVP run for all his rushing TDs? Well, did people give Brady credit for his 4 rushing TDs in 2012? No. To be fair, Aaron Rodgers had 2 of the team's 9 rushing TDs.

So, to sum up, the 2012 Patriots scored the 4th most points all time in NFL history.

A ton of yards. A ton of TDs. But because Brady didn't seem to get the credit for the rushing TDs, he wasn't in the top 2 for MVPs.

So, 2012 for me is by far and away the Patriots top offensive year of the decade.

Not to mention they hardly played any games with the full offense out there together.
