Most Likely.

The Patriots have been happy to learn of Scarnecchia's wishes to come out of retirement, and a deal is very likely, per source.

Dupe. I didn't look far enough down the page. Figured this would be one of the top 15 posts. My bad.

Not exactly breaking news anymore. 2-3 threads on this already. But yes we are excited

I came here to post almost exactly the same thing. Before you start a new thread just scan the first page to see if there's an thread with the same news.

I guess every great cloud really does have a silver lining. My Monday promises to be a lot less Monday-ish than I'd expected. :)

Well that would be fantastic news. The Pats have already drafted more talent than he had to work with his past couple years, now let him coach it up.

Huge addition. He must have hated retirement but I'm very happy to welcome him back. Maybe the Pats will now get some returns out of their investments on the OL.

Shaq Mason about to become a potential All-Pro. If there is anyone that can get him to be a good pass blocker it's Scar, he's already a beast at run blocking.

in college, yes...not so much in the pros. not yet at least

This is not a solution, but a patch. I'd love Scar back but I hope there's a designated successor put in place along with him who can be ready a year hence.
Good post. Some folks around here see Scarnecchia as a savior/cure-all/miracle worker for the offensive line. He was an excellent coach, but let's not go overboard assuming the OL will now be problem-free. Remember that the Pats won three Super Bowls with his help but also lost two; his two-year replacement won one and did a fine job in 2014. I suspect that sans this past season's ridiculous injury situation DeGuglielmo might still be OL coach.

It's difficult to determine exactly what went wrong with the OL in the AFCCG -- how much of its failure came from injuries and consequent lack of cohesion and how much of it might have been DeGuglielmo not having them properly prepared. Granted, some of individual OL screw-ups were shocking to say the least but we might never know exactly why they happened. Nor will we know exactly why BB decided to move on from him as coach. Anyone know how long DeGuglielmo was under contract? He got hired right away in San Fran, perhaps he asked BB to let him go there.

Turkeyneck makes a good point that Scarnecchia might be back to help in a pinch while the OL coaching situation is re-set. He retired for a reason (he's 68) and being an assistant coach in the NFL is a demanding job, make no mistake.

Great move to bring him back, hopefully BB assigns him a padawan to serve as his hier apparent.

Maybe Matt Light? or Steve Belichick

Maybe but Stork regressed and the kids did not improve as much as they should have and were brutal in pass protection at the end of the year. I'm giving them a pass on run-blocking as once Blount and Dion went down they had no one worth a damn back there.

We know exactly what went wrong. One of the main reasons was that Brady got killed because Stork kept showing his hand on the snap count and after 100 or so practices, 4 pre season games and 17 games the line had an incredible lack of communication. You heard Kppen and Light talk about how they had several snap cadences prepared for loud stadiums. There were also technique and assignment mistakes that kept happening over and over and over again. What happened 3 Sundays ago does not happen when Scar is coach. It just doesn't.

Sometimes people retire for the wrong reasons and reasons we don't even know. Maybe Scar had a medical condition that he wanted to be kept private so he retired. Maybe he still has a ton of energy and retirement isn't for him. My dad "retired" when he was 68 and he drove my mom nuts and he actually got a little depressed. Hes a high-energy guy and needed to stay busy so he started a little business and he works 40= hrs a week from the house and travels around and hes happy again.

You could be right or you could be wrong. We just don't know for sure, and conjecture from ex-players is exactly that -- educated guessing.

There might be reasons behind the OL's meltdown beyond what is perceived to be the snap-count problem that we just don't know about. It might've been an anomaly Scarnecchia never faced during his tenure. I just have a hard time believing DeGuglielmo suddenly spit the bit after the year he had in 2014, when he also earned praise for doing some "baling wire and duct tape" work on the OL himself. So maybe blame does rest with DeGuglielmo, maybe Scar was pining to come back all along and maybe he will be the OL "savior" in 2016. I'm just saying things aren't always what they seem through the eyes of outside observers, especially laymen/fans.

Just a hunch that Scar saw his projects - almost everyone on that line was his input, right? - going sour and felt fatherly. Coaches get like that...and they don't want to be proven wrong.

This is good news for Stork, Mason, Jackson, Flemming, Cannon and Andrews...and Patriots fans.

Sure. I put a ton of stock in what Light and Koppen say. Plus what I saw was unlike anything I have seen here in a long time.

If what we know is true and Googs 2yr contract did run out and was a temp and it would not surprise me to learn that Scar has been on some kind of sabbatical and was going to return anyway.

Personally I think he got too much cred in 2014. Solder, Connolly, Wendy and Vollmer are vets and you had two fmr centers on either side of Stork telling him what to do.
