Looks like the NFL rigging game continues...they want Peyton vs Brady

Think the NFL would really want NE/Denver? Brady vs Manning?

Gettin' boring and old already. I mean it'll be cool watching one last meaningful matchup vs two all-time greats, but outside of NE and Denver, you'd have to figure most would've preferred KC vs Pitt.

Not hate against NE and Denver. Just more of wanting to see some variety every now and then.

yeah..who the hell would want Bird/Magic when you could have a new Clippers/Pacers matchup?

jeezus krist you're either a bubble boy or an 8th grade dropout. Ever hear the term marketing? Let me break it down simply for you...you have one team with young rising superstar X at QB, a player that can assume the mantle of "best QB" for the next decade. Tall, rugged, handsome, rocket armed, brilliant toothy smile and exuberant personality.

You have the aging national hero, every Billy Bob's favorite ol' down home gosh darnit good ol' boy country cornpone, making it to one last dance before his precious mantle passes on.
You market this as the battle of the generations to an entire country that's so ****in' gullible they believe the air fairy works behind the scenes for the Patriots.
What you get is the ratings and advertising revenue bonanza you, as one of the billionaire boys club of 32, lusts after every season.

KC/Pitt???????????????????????????? One team with a QB and NO weapons...the other a QB that can't throw a 2 yard pass without painkiller injections? Wake the **** up and join the 21st century.

Do you mean Brady? If so... "young"? Isn't he like 38?

Regardless of your friendly argument of why the country wants to see NE vs Denver, outside of those areas, it's not really true. Will it still get good ratings, of cousre. It's the AFC Championship game and does have two of the older great QBs. But people definitely wouldn't mind some other teams playing.

Then those other teams should win, simple.

Agreed. And since NE and Denver have won, they deserve to be here. I'm just saying the NFL wouldn't try to rig things for these two teams.

One final showdown. How much money did NFL pay that scrub Steelers RB to fumble an easy ball ON THE LINE FOR A FIRST DOWN? Of course the Broncos take advantage of it.

Dude, I don't disagree that the league is dirty but that particular theory is really off the deep end.

No but they would rig it for "Young Star/Old Star". Newton- Manning is the best possible revenue stream left out of the four teams. The Patriots are a league anathema and I agree, the LAST choice of the league at this point. Palmer/Manning is too redundant and lacks the millennials hook that Newton/Manning would provide.

Hm, good call. I was just looking at the AFC Championship game. Superbowl wise... yeah, that'd be a heck of a storyline.

No offense, but this is pretty moronic if you think the general public would have rather seen newbies like Alex Smith versus AJ McCarron than Brady-Manning XVII.

I want to put this thread on ignore but reading the comments makes it nearly impossible to do so.

Well maybe, just maybe, those other teams can get good and win themselves some playoff games? Brady and the Pats will be good for at least 3-5 more years. So I'd get used to the Pats being in this position for several more years to come.

When brady gets ejected next week I'm going to laugh at all the naysayers in this thread.

The league obviously is doing everything in its power to get forehead a title this year so he can retire on top. Look at yesterdays game where he literally gave himself up, then got up and threw a pass after all teh steelers thought the play was dead for like 40 yards.

Bunch of bs.

I'm frustrated because the Broncos ALWAYS get calls their ways, turn overs in the right spot, and it's always in the 4th quarter. This **** has been happening all year, and it's ridiculous!

IF you've ever run across a parking lot a mile above sea level, you'd probably be able to figure out why Denver usually takes over in the 4th quarter i Denver, and other teams make stupid mistakes.

This is one of those "correlation does not equal causation" threads.

High revenue scenarios might - might - correlate with the NFL*'s theft of NE draft picks, defamation of the team, etc. I tend to think of it more as a fix first to demonstrate "the sherriff" will gore anybody's sacred cow in 2007, and then IdealGasLawGate was just because the more they leaked, the more people covered a nothing issue rather than CTE and beating women and children.

Although, side-note... nobody better try to beat Ashley Manning, If Cheaton is telling the truth :) She will so kick his butt...

That said..

These narratives have story elements touching on revenue: the "parity" (or "parody") aspect being most evident in 2007, then going back to the well last year to avoid Goodell's real scandals - people shooting themselves in their heart so their brain can be studied, for example. So revenue is kinda sorta at the bottom of it.

This time? Looked to me like the Pats and the Donks got there pretty much without the heavy hand of the NFL*. The great unreported story, of course, is the "new" record-keeping and ball-gauging regime that should have returned results consistent precisely with the Pats' case the last couple of weeks. But we only want that story out there in relation to the Pats... so they pull their **** again this year, (1)... it's on the NFL*... they're supposed to have a system in place.

And (2) they should subpoena what the measurements were in every playoff game, with some mechanism in place to establish the chain of custody from the measurements to delivery to the authorities.

I say the authorities, because if they pull this crap again, at the very least the Pats should file a defamation suit.

Don't worry, they won't ruin your SB run-up. It'll break Saturday night before the SB or the night before the AFCCG.

Already predicted this one.

The NFC is less predictable but that SEA\CAR game was an insult to my intelligence. CAR unable to score once in the 2nd half, while Seattle try and stage a comeback. It was a laughable attempt at entertainment.

If the Pats go off script, next week, I'm going to buy another Brady jersey.

I am a Patriot fan.

Wtf are you people talking about? All I'm saying this game was obviously rigged.

People stay in denial. The SEA and CAR game was obviously rigged, as well. People don't wanna hear the truth about their precious NFL, but when Goodell is serving Manning his ring on a silver platter in Feb, they will start to see this mess for what it is.

I would be shocked as a switch, if Brady wins Sunday. We are clearly the better team, but expect us to play like crap to keep the score close, for another Manning comeback. ***NYFL*

And if the Pats win, will you stifle this nonsense and promise to stop inhaling the cleaning products in your house?

First, why be a fan of any team if the winning and losing is fixed? It is less entertaining than pro wrestling if that is the case, and people will stop watching the sport in huge numbers. Bye bye billion dollar industry.

Second, if you believe games are fixed, then you acknowledge the Pats have benefitted repeatedly from the fixes as they are the most successful team over the past 15 years. That Butler fix last year was awesome, given how much the rest of the NFL fans love the Pats. Charging the Pats with cheating and then letting them win - a stroke of pure genius.

Third, if you believe Manning is the darling of the NFL, then why has he won 1 championship over his entire career? The guy is 39. Where was the fix 2 years ago when he was beaten like a drum by Seattle? And was he told to throw to the Saints defense when he lost that game?

This isn't called denial. It's called rational thought.

Did you see the RB on the sideline after? No NFL player is that good an actor.

The new ball regime would not do anything of the sort as it is designed to only detect tampering, not pressure loss (or gain) due to weather. As I've said elsewhere, I have to grudgingly give respect to the NFL on this, as they came up with a system that will both accurately detect tampering and -- without any fudging/lying necessary -- is guaranteed to never produce data that would exonerate NE. So the NFL has no need to be afraid of leaks, etc.
