Edelman: Broken Foot, Likely Back for Playoffs

Any word on how edelmans surgery went?

Dez started practicing in 4 weeks correct?

Given Edelmans dedication i wouldnt be surprised if we see him healed closer to 6 weeks than 8
Or sooner....

Thats one thing you don't need to question.

JE will do anything to get on that field as quickly as possible.

He'll be ready as soon as doctors and trainers are comfortable.

Channel 5's Mike Lynch reported this past hour that he received word late this afternoon that it could be as soon as 6 weeks.

Edelman is somebody that I worried about making it through the season healthy. Assuming he is back for the playoffs, perhaps the rest will do him some good? Even without him for the rest of the regular season, does anyone think we should not win each and every week? It sucks to lose him, but he may end up providing a boost when we need him the most, playoff time. Rest up. Julian. See you in the playoffs. Until then, next man up!

This injury is probably the only way that the wear and tear on him gets reduced.

Now along with his foot, his knee and finger, and probably other injuries we don't know about can heal up.

Jules will be ready to wreak havoc come playoff time.

Six weeks would be great, but assuming the Pats are locked into a first round bye at that point might as well just rest him for week 16/17 too and give him a full 9 weeks. Foot injuries aren't something to mess with, would hate to see Edelman go the way of 2013 Dobson and lose his offseason plus much/all of 2016 due to rushing back and aggravating the injury.

Why? because I believe a guy who will go 2 months without game action is not going to come back and be a serious factor in the NFL playoffs?

Ah, you're another one who thinks Edelman will be mainlining lard while he's recovering from his injury, and that his foot surgery will also come with a lobotomy.

Yeah, I feel the same. I just envision a scenario in which we need to win one or both of the last 2 games to clinch the #1 seed. In that case, it would be an interesting decision.

If hes health why not ease him back in the last week or two. That way he is ready to go for the playoffs. Maybe a few limited snaps tp get his feet wet.

We saw what lafell looked like his first week back after missing time

Rappoport said on nfl network the expectation is he will be back this season

Having to play in Cincinnati in the playoffs with a healthy Edelman doesn't really scare my nearly as much as having the #1 all locked up while taking a substantial risk that he came back too soon. Of course, if the best medical advice says he can work off the rust in Miami, that's great.

I understand the concern, but there is little chance they won't give a healthy Edelman at least some snaps to work off the rust.

I agree in that I don't think they'd play him unless it's felt he's completely healed.

That's a bad comparison, Lafell missed the entire offseason, while JE was there everyday plus 9 weeks into the season. Additionally, if he is back by week 16, he will have a couple of weeks to gain the timing back with Brady at practice.

It's not unprecedented. Terrel Owens did it and came back to play extremely well in the Super Bowl.

From a football fan's perspective, this sucks. Edelman is a great player with heart. Never want to see a guy like him go out with an injury.

From a Jet fan's perspective, doesn't really mean much except that we may not have to hear about the potential perfect season much longer. First off, I hope you guys can't beat Buffalo next week because it helps our wildcard chances. But losing Edelman is huge deal I think. Short of Brady, Edelman is the next most important player. Especially after the loss of Dion.

Don't get me wrong, Gronk is irreplaceable and head-n-shoulders above any other TE in the league. But what I fear the most when facing the Pats is the insanely quick and precise passing game. I mean I'm pretty sure the Pats passed 90% of the plays vs the Jets. Edelman allows that. Perhaps Amendola can fill in decently, but no where nearly as good as Jules. His combination of toughness/skill/heart/knowledge/grit... (I can keep going) is impossible to replace. Add Brady's trust and familiarity with Edelman and it's even a bigger loss. Simply put, I'd much rather face the Pats minus Edelman than Gronk.

Now missing two of your best three options (Edelman and Dion) who also were the top two quick-release options will change the offense a great deal. Makes it almost pedestrian. Don't think the ball will get out nearly as quick or reliably, which then leads to more focus on the Oline. Which isn't a good thing. Brady will begin taking more hits. Gronk will still get his. Perhaps even more now, but I'd be careful not to overwork him.

From a fantasy player's persective, MOTHER @#%^$#@%%$%^^#$%#$@#@#$#^%^&!!!! I'm screwed! In PPR, Jules is the freakin MAN. Irreplaceable. But I thought I was slightly OK cause I had Michael Floyd and he was blowing up last night. Until he pulls a hammy. SOB!!! But I also have Gronk, so hopefully his targets increase a bit.

Overall, this sucks and I'm sorry to see him go down. Edelman (and what he allows the Pats O to do) is great to watch and I think this kills any shot of an undefeated season. Figure this puts at least three of the remaining games in question (yes, including the Jets in Jersey if we can right the ship). But overall, Super Bowl wise... no effect. May even help if the Pats can keep Brady and Gronk healthy. Edelman will come back fresh for the playoffs and kick ass!

The guy takes a pounding, for sure--hell, he relishes it. If the foot's good to go and he's got a game to shake off the rust, he'll certainly be fresher than he would be otherwise.

I understand the concern, but there is little chance they won't give a healthy Edelman at least some snaps to work off the rust.

It also gives him a chance to rest that busted finger that I'm pretty sure he has too.

It is a balance. You want to get him up to speed and game condition, but the sooner he returns the greater the risk of refractive. No simple answer.

Yeah, he's a tough dude. His injury may lead to a loss or two, but I'm OK if he comes back healthy and refreshed for the playoff run.

Percy Harvin missed an entire season for the Seahawks and was a crucial piece in winning that Super Bowl for them.
