I'm comparing him to Thomas on last year's team, which was better offensiveky and still got bounced early.
Is he an upgrade over Daniels at this point? Davis has been invisible for a few seasons. And I'm hearing he got shipped because he can't get along with Kaepernick, so, yes, he might hurt.
Either way, I see this pickup as "meh."
Yes, he's better than Owen Daniels. Vernon Davis' main problem is that his QB before today didn't bother throwing him the ball ever, because that would require him making more than one read.
So it's tough to gauge where he is now, to where he was 3 years ago, when he was a legitimate top-5 talent at the position.
He can't get along with Kaepernick because a) Kaepernick hasn't thrown him the ball in three years, and b) Kaepernick is a Tannehill-level, entitled douchebag.
He helps the team.
That said, anyone worried about "seam routes" and any of those things has not watched the Broncos over the last two seasons - everything's a crossing route or down the sideline, because Manning hangs everything. See Manny Sanders' gator arms for details.
