Brady doubles down on his medical beliefs

I'm a healthcare professional so I'm usually a little biased. I prefer to look at things from a biological/physiological standpoint and utilize the best evidence-based research. That being said, the foundation of Brady's viewpoints here are reasonable and common sense. Stop eating junk food, don't smoke, stretch, and get plenty of exercise and you can potentially live a long, healthy life. Some of the other stuff regarding certain supplements and treatments I would consider hippie bs, but the bare bones of it are accurate. In our country we do have serious, widespread health problems that are starting at younger ages now. American lifestyle is a major contributing factor as we eat terrible and sit on our asses too much. We do need to be more proactive in that aspect, especially with teaching kids healthy habits.

There's no question that Arnold is the GOAT of action movies, with Stallone second and everyone else vying for 3rd.

Still struggling with why "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot!" didn't win an Oscar for Best Picture...

All the talk on the radio is now about this. *Sigh*. Well at least this one isn't about cheating. Just that Tom is crazy and is further damaging his image.

Not saying Guerrero isn't a shady fellow but still...more negative press. It is tiresome.

Cruise blows them both away acting-wise. There is no debate there.

Predator, Commando, The Terminators, the Rockys, Rambos, those are classics. I think the Expendables are above average.

The MIs were very good. Top Gun, Days of Thunder, etc were decent. No question Cruise has cranked out some good ones.

I just don't put them on the same plain as Rocky, Predator, Rambo or Terminator.

This may be a generational thing here. I'm in my mid-40s. Those are what I grew up with.

That's the point I was trying to make. He's a better actor and incredibly versatile. He excels in virtually every role he has been in. I also can't ignore the following:

This just adds another layer to his repertoire that no other elite action star possesses. If you've seen Rogue Nation, he also does the underwater scene in one take while holding his breath for approximately 4 minutes.

I can't really argue against the movies you listed being classics, though. In fact, after watching Predator about 5 times in 2D over the years, I watched it in 3D for the first time this past weekend. It was even more enjoyable, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it in 3D before.

Great movie.

Brady's right on. We employ a massage therapist on our athletes and when he can't fix it we use an osteopathic doc rather than an allopathic one. Allopathic docs have their training funded by big pharma and are considered "right." They portray osteopathic medicine as quackery, while the blind masses spend big bucks on pills and surgeries that are far from necessary.

Cutting edge is nutrition, massage, sleep specialists, fascial release. Your fascia has a huge impact on pain, movement and athletic performance. Chronic pain can be treated by "quacks" like rolfing therapists much more effectively than any surgery or pill. That's why Brady kicks ass...he is open to alternative treatment methods rather than scoffing at them and following the same path as everyone else.

I see nothing wrong with what Brady is promoting. Heck, I do the same myself. As one of those "quacks" ..... I can certainly relate. :D

I suspect he drew on the knowledge that antibiotics and surgery actually weaken the immune system while attacking the bacteria. Rather than have more surgery he did other things to strengthen the immune system so it could better deal with the bacteria.

We are experiencing a dramatic increase in staff, MRSA, and similar in part because of the dominant use of antibiotics to kill infections. Brady's beliefs probably include the use of other methods as well, and as preventative.

Two points here:

(1) Antibiotics (though not antifungals) don't have a direct impact on the immune system. They're supposed to attack the bacteria in ways that do not impact humans. [The exception to this is anti-fungals, which tend to have the worst side effects, because fungi are far more similar to we humans than are bacteria.]

(2) The biggest problem with antibiotics in medicine may be people insisting on them to fight viral infections (they are useless) and/or not taking the full course when prescribed. That said, nationwide, we actually use more antibiotics on farm animals than we do in humans (for reasons that aren't entirely clear, they promote growth in the animals).

Listening to sports talk radio for an hour is equivalent to drinking 50 cokes daily. For your health and future please stop. You'll discover that your blood pressure will drop to healthy levels and your IQ will increase by 25 points on average.

Introduced youngest granddaughter to Predator last week after taking her to the latest scary dinosaur movie. My daughter is wicked pissed at me. The 10 yr old loved it saying dismissively that her older sister "...would HATE this! She likes Fluffy Unicorn movies."

This is nothing but an attempt at character assassination because he's been doing so spectacularly, during a time he should have been suspended. Tim Hasselbeck apparently "knows" things about guys around TB. At least that's what I gather, unless he was talking in hypotheticals.

“If you are arguably the best quarterback of all-time and at your disposal you literally could partner with anybody on the planet to make an impact on whatever you are called to do, are you going to choose the guy that acted like he was dealing with 200 terminally ill cancer patients?” Hasselbeck asked.

“Listen, who you associate with definitely opens you up to people thinking, ‘OK, I think this guy is a great guy and then all of a sudden you find out, man, this is crazy because he’s a great guy and every time I see him the guys that he’s with — there are things I know about the guys that he is with, I know it isn’t good and I know how those guys act and I know where those guys go and I know what those guys do. To me, something is not adding up here when I see this guy that I think is a great guy, always with these bad guys,'” he added. “When that happens, you then say, ‘OK, maybe he’s not who I thought he was.'”

My view. There are things said here by Tom i agree with and disagree with.

I think diet and general healthy lifestyle is underrated probably for the effect that alone can have. Also yoga and massage and other things that increase flexibility are probably also under appreciated.

We sometimes get in the mind set that unless it is in pill form and causes a testable chemical reaction it can not help. I think more pills is not good medicine (to be fair many doctors feel this way too).

I also think some things Brady does are not helpful. There id a difference however to being not helpful and detrimental. The water he drinks doesn't help it but it doesn't negatively effect him. The diet, yoga, and mind exercises no doubt do have an impact i believe. The problem is they are not testable in the same way a pill is so you can never be sure if those mind exercises and yoga keep you sharp and from getting injured. Logically it makes sense to me it would so i am able to go with it.

When doing a lot of this not provable stuff a try nearly everything approach and hope it works is not terrible provided you can identify actively harmful things and cut them out. However i don't think his "guru" should look to make claims that can be conclusively proven to be wrong. I don't blame Brady or anyone for the actions of another though.

I agree that falsifiability is a critical element to these claims, but diet and yoga are testable.

brady sounds like my wife. lol

anyway i've been on paleo diet, and it really works. i've lost 10lb in a month. i'm down to 200lb.

Well can you show me the test that says people who do yoga are less likely to tear an ACL? Also you need to have control groups for how long someone does yoga and how advanced someone is.

I guess that could be testable but I have never seen a study on it and it would be tricky cause it would have so many variables cause you have types of Yoga too.

As for diet. We know there are unhealthy diets and healthy diets. I am talking about Brady's specific diet and how it translates to sport performance. Can we prove someone played better cause they ate chicken that didn't have any steroids in it? If Brady ate chicken with steroids and Peyton did not would that prove something? How do we control every other variable possible?

I have 3 daughters under the age of 14. In my home I have a catwalk that is above the "great room" where the flat screen is.

A few night ago I was watching "Enter the Dragon" with Bruce Lee.

For the past couple of days they have been pretending to karate chop and kick each other and make the "Waaaaaaaaa!" sound like Bruce.

Apparently they were watching...LOL.

I didn't say that a test existed, just that it is testable.

How do we control every variable possible?

The same way you control for every variable in any medical testing, large enough samples.

Oh i see. I think we are talking about 2 different things. My issue is I don't believe it is practical to test these things. Not to say it is not theoretically possible. It is technically possible of course but i just don't see the logistics of it ever being worked out.

I think you were talking about if it could be done and not will or realistically can it be done. I don't want to put words in your mouth cause maybe you think it is more possible then me. I just don't see it as being a real possibility in any sense though.

My issue is I don't believe it is practical to test these things.

It's certainly a whole lot more difficult than medications, considering you can't do animal testing or isolated lab work. The bigger problem is financing because of how many people would need to be involved and the length of time necessary.

The quacks don't have the money and the corporations don't need to invest it when a simple denial will suffice most of the time. That's why I suspect there is validity to many (not all or even most) claims made by Eastern philosophy/medicine, even if it never gets mainstreamed.

Brady's guru is an immoral quack who indirectly has blood on his hands. But Brady is not him. Brady's another guy who got suckered in, just like every poor bastard who spent $39.95 on some miracle cream, just on a larger scale.

I don't think any less of the Beatles because they bought into the Maharishi for a while. And I don't suddenly not love Brady because of this.

I feel sorry for him a bit though.
The only reason to feel sorry for Brady is that he has to defend his beliefs on nutrition and fitness to a pair of narrow-minded radio morons who seemed to take offense to the idea that soda and fast food are unhealthy. I thought Tom Brady handled the interview well and its cool to hear him speak passionately about the subject.

Well whatever your doing, keep it up Tom! He's living proof.
