Miguel: CB Keenan Lewis would only cost 700K in cap space via Trade

Besides being a top 20 CB, Lewis's contract is awesome. He's worth paying a premium to get.

CB2 is really the only hole on our entire team and Lewis would make it a strength. Butler/Lewis would be a top tier CB duo.

Butler
Lewis
Roberts
Brown (if can be resigned cheaply)

We would have almost no 2016 draft needs.

The Saints redid Lewis's contract earlier this year. They clearly don't intend to get rid of him, especially with the injury issues they've had at CB. I suspect the idea that the Patriots could acquire him (aside from some sort of mega-deal involving Garappolo) is a pipe dream.

Brown didn't play and Ryan took all his snaps. Was Ryan being showcased against a weak opponent for a potential trade?

Brown is injured.

I hope the team gives this (or any other realistic option) serious consideration. Moreso than any other position besides QB, it's difficult to see how the team can recover from a serious injury to Malcom Butler given the rest of the options currently on the roster.

He's my binky. I don't know how the steelers let him go a couple of years ago. Very physical corner.

Saints could potentially start 0-8 so that's good.

I remember reading somewhere that a Lewis trade has always made sense on our end but would cost tons for the Saints. So I don't think so.

Keenan Lewis has too long of a deal to be an in-season trade for BB. He goes after guys that will come off the books after the year.

My ideal scenario would be along the lines of hoping the Chiefs are 1-6 or 2-5 at the deadline and are willing to deal Sean Smith.

Would love that deal for the Pats if the Saints were willing to make it, but unfortunately I don't see the Saints trading him. He's one of the few cost-effective assets they have, only makes any sense at all for them if they're dumping literally everything and tanking for the next year or 2. And if is the case, I think there will be some competition for him in the trade market.

Yes, that contract would make a lot of sense for the Patriots. The problem is that for the same reason, it makes such little sense for the Saints to trade him. He's gotten three signing bonuses in three years, meaning the 2016 Saints would go from being a bad team with cap problems to being a worse team with worse cap problems if they trade him before then. They're not in a position to be using up additional cap room in order to get rid of a quality player unless they're getting something significant in return (which is why this is different than Jimmy Graham's situation), and the Pats aren't exactly in a position to be giving up more high draft picks.

And even with Graham the Saints exchanged an early 4th rounder for a late 1st rounder, plus got Max Unger. It was partly a salary dump, but they also got some solid assets in return. I'm sure the Saints would be willing to trade Lewis if the offer was right, but the right offer is more than I expect the Pats would be willing/able to pay.

Just watched about 3 q of Pats game, coaches film. Coleman did a pretty good job

I just read Lovie Smith said Verner is playing bad, remember when pats traded for aqib talib?

I wouldn't mind bringing someone in that could upgrade our secondary, it's obviouslly our weakest link on the team. It seems like we have a really good corner in Butler, I think Brown could be a decent number two or number three and after that, we have nothing but question marks. I'm not sure where Lewis would fit in, but I don't think it could hurt to inquire.

The Bears just traded Jared Allan. They might be the worst team in the league and might be interested in trading for the future. They have Kyle Fuller who was a first round pick last year. I doubt they would trade him, but he has been struggling. They have Alan Ball who is 30 years old and signed to a one year contract. Again, I have no idea if they would be interested in trading.

Is anyone familiar with the Bears' cb situation?

Shareece Wright is reported to want off the 49ers and may be worth a look. He's been inactive all 3 games this year after signing a one year deal. He's started 27 games the past two years with the Chargers...Can't be any worse than Fletcher.

He hasn't been able to get on the field for the 49ers for three games. I'd say it's entirely possible that he's worse than Fletcher.

alteraun verner is another guy who got benched. last year he graded out as a top 10 CB, but lovie benched him. also a 2013 all pro with the titans.
maybe he can revitalize his career with the pats!! similar to talib

get it done bill, send them a late round pick plus fletcher!!:D:cool:

Word of mouth is that he's pretty average.

But I found this online: "He boasts 129 career tackles and picked off a pass and notched four passes defended in the 2013 playoffs. He has postseason experience, can hit in run support, demonstrated solid instincts with the ball in the air during his tenure in San Diego and has solid speed to stay with receivers (4.46 40-yard dash)."

I think he'd be a decent Cornerback

Did show potential in his rookie year before falling off and would have much more value than Fletcher as everyone knows what Fletcher is at this point.

Ryan is still a young player. Remember that Darius Butler was pretty much useless in New England and now has become a somewhat decent corner in Indy (all be it not very good but still) Ryan and Butler remind me of each other in many ways. Both showed flashes their rookie years then did nothing after that.

Butler got absolutely undressed by Braylon Edwards early in the 2010 season against the Jets. Butler's futile attempts to cover Edwards that game made Arrington's coverage of Chris Matthews in the Super Bowl look like Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson in double coverage on Donald Hayes. I don't think Butler's psyche -- or play -- ever recovered from that debacle.

Maybe this year, instead of trading for a player, we trade players. We have players with expiring contracts and we are without a first rounder (which BB would try to trade anyway).
