Says it all

From source close to Wayne "asked for release, work environment to tough....not fun"

Amazing how someone with that mentality could have had such a great career ( A career I still very much respect). Of course, it could be that he now at the end of his career doesn't have that motivation and drive any more, and that's why he didn't like going to a new team in the Pats, a team where he probably had to work his ass off like an UDFA.

Is there any chance Wayne is just saying he's contemplating retirement and needs a few weeks to think about it, just to keep up appearances so NE can sign him back after the first game? In other words, I assume it's technically illegal to manipulate the cap with a handshake deal to sit tight a game and we'll pick u up next week.

Or this other possibility. Perhaps NE asked him to restructure his contract at a lower amount (as they are now up against the cap), which led to his refusal and release?

It is not actually illegal to cut Wayne now and bring him back in a few weeks.. Handshake deal or no..

WOW, hope he saved a ton of money cause this guy is going to have a hard time in the real world. Paid a fortune to play a game and it's too "tough" unreal.

Happy Wayne will never play a meaningful down as a Patriot. GTFO.
Hated that signing.

Reggie Wayne is a confirmed loser.

This is not a loss for us.

wayne is cooked..work environment too tough...glad he is gone. ran routes last game like he had a load in his pants

Well...time to get the young guns some experience......Glad to see Harper made the cut. Still haven't seen the official cut list......

If true it really is fascinating.

If he performed well, he would have made $2.8m

He was on the defending Super Bowl Champion and a team that was his arch rival for 14 seasons and has done more winning than any team the last 16 years.

The coach- arguably the GoAT WANTED him.

The QB who is also the GoAT would be throwing balls to him.

Reggie Wayne is a potential HoF WR. This isn't Aaron Dobson we are talking about here. Hes done it. He is leaps and bounds ahead of Ocho Cinco. This is not the same situation.

But what we are hearing is that the work environment for him sucked.

My gut tells me it's pride and you are hearing some spin now from the Wayne handlers- but not Reggie. He knew that he couldn't perform at the level they wanted him to (playbook, physically) and he didn't see himself getting there. He went to BB and they worked it out. He doesn't write that presser for just anyone. He respects Wayne's honesty. If he played games with BB he doesn't write that. The end.

We're all engaging in a bit of schadenfreude here, but I think your last sentence see's directly to the heart of the matter.

You must have watched a different game because he ran his routes excellently. It was the QB throwing him the ball that was the issue..

Come on, man. That "game" is an 80+ hour a week job with extremely high mental and physical demands.

Yeah, that's the real bummer to me. He ran good routes, has great hands, and got decently open. No doubt in my mind he could have contributed. But if he can't handle the mental aspect of playing on a tough, accountable team then I guess he wasn't going to make it anyway.
