Amendola's going to have a monster year. Finally fully healthy after that gruesome groin tear.
I hope so and think so.

Also, Lafell may stay on PUP. Who knows whats going on with his foot and they may want to play it safe. Plus the bye week this year is before the PUP date so they would only have 5 games without him if he stays on it.

That opens up a roster space for Giboson and one more guy if they go with 6 WRs.

I hope it's not Lisfranc or something equally as terrible. I can't believe I'm actually saying this after what I said about him last year, but they NEED Brandon LaFell healthy.

They do. But WR and feet are tricky so you play it safe. I would keep him on the PUP. You still have the TEs and JE, DA and Gibson who can play. With MS as a WR that leaves spaces for 2 more guys: Dobson who has to get going and Tyms or another guy.

Plus if you keep a WR now that has PS eligibility (with Lafell on PUP) it may be easier to get that player on the PS at the end of week 6 than it will be at the start of the season - when Lafell comes back.

FIRST, we need to know who we have at LG. Who is the starter? Who is the backup? Wendell? Mason? Jackson? Groy?

THEN, we can consider whether we can afford the luxury of a developmental player like Andrews or Barker or Groy on the 53.

UNTIL THEN, I guess Kline is not only on the roster. He our starting LG.

Kline was the main center again today for both QBs, as Andrews is the one who played guard.

I don't know if Kline will be the starting LG or not, as that will come down to Ryan Wendell and the potential of Shaq Mason starting as a rookie.

For me, it's just about Kline getting that last OL spot over a developmental guy like Andrews, who Belichick was extremely high on with multiple draft day calls and a 35,000 dollar bonus.

Either way, there's no reason why Kline can't be the 9th OL, with Andrews going to the PS. Belichick has given him incentive to turn down any other offers he may receive, in my opinion.

Here we go:

QB (2): Garoppolo, Lindley
RB (4): Gray, Bolden, White, Develin
WR (6): Edelman, Amendola, Dobson, Gibson, Tyms, Slater
TE (3): Gronkowski, Chandler, Hoomanawanui
T (4): Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Fleming
G (3): Jackson, Mason, Kline
C (2): Stork, Andrews
DL (5): Siliga, Brown, Branch, Easley, Moore
DL/LB (5): Jones, Ninkovich, Sheard, Flowers, Grissom
LB (5): Collins, Hightower, Mayo, Freeny, Martin
CB (5): Butler, Brown, McClain, Ryan, Roberts
S (6): McCourty, Chung, Richards, Harmon, Wilson, Ebner
ST (3): Gostkowski, Allen, Cardona
Suspended/PUP/NFI (6): Brady, LaFell, Blount, Fletcher, Wendell, Chr. Jones
Would like to see on PS: Harper, Walker, R. Johnson, Bequette

-Expected a battle royale for third down running back, but Cadet and Lewis seem to have conceded. Oh well.
-Tyms probably doesn't deserve a roster spot...I'm thinking of giving it to Rufus Johnson even though there's absolutely no need for him on the 53. But just last season, Tyms was everyone's binky, the next Randy Moss, etc...
-Maybe Kline and Andrews get beaten out, but I don't know who is even capable of doing that. Certainly not Devey, Barker, or Asper. Didn't see any of Groy on Thursday, can anyone tell me how he's been doing in camp?
-Antonio Johnson looks decent, but I would hate to cut a guy like Moore for a 30 year old who hasn't played since 2013. Quite honestly, he's earned a spot over Branch, but I can't bring myself to cut someone who just signed a 2/6.6M deal.
-Like I already said, Rufus Johnson looks good but will likely fall victim to a loaded DE position. Would like them to find a way to keep him if he keeps it up.
-The linebacker starters and depth are both scary in very different ways. James Morris looked like Mike Rivera 2.0, slow as **** but still getting a lot of reps for whatever reason. Freeny looked a little better but would definitely not want him seeing real defensive snaps. I gave the last spot to Eric Martin because I've heard some good things about him, but I've also read that he's more of an edge-rusher. In that case, there's no room for him. Anyone know more about him?
-I said in another thread, it'll probably come down to McClain vs Fletcher. Logan Ryan can be 2011 Arrington bad at times, but BB clearly values the guy and he's a lock in my book.
-6 safeties is a whole lot, but they all have very strong cases for roster spots. McCourty and Chung are locks. Richards and Harmon have shown some skills on defense. Wilson and Ebner are both ST aces, and Wilson can play some defense as well. I think if one of them is cut, it's Ebner, but we know BB likes him to the point where he has "made the club from the tub" before.
-Those are some really key players unavailable for week 1...imagine how much better this roster would be with Brady, Blount, LaFell, Wendell, and Fletcher.

I have only 5 open roster spots; Obviously, Belichick could choose to use these roster spots differently. I understand that the ret aren't locks, but

OFFENSE (2)
9th OL (many have reasonably this filled with Kilne already; he is taking reps as our center today)
24th Offensive Player - could be 5th RB or 5th WR or 10th OL (Dobson seems most likely)

DEFENSE (3)
4th DT (I like Branch for this spot)
14th Defensive Front Seven Player (I have Freeny as the 13th) (a 5th LB is my choice)
25th defensive position - 15th front seven player, 6th CB, or 6th S (I like McClain)

This is mine for now. I included the suspended players, obviously there'd be temporary changes for Blount and, unlikely, TB12.

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo
RB (5) L.Blount, J.Gray, J.White, J.Develin, B.Bolden
WR (6) J.Edelman, M.Slater, B.LaFell, D.Amendola, B.Gibson, A.Dobson
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, M.Hoomanawanui, S.Chandler
C (2) B.Stork, R.Wendell
G (3) T.Jackson, S.Mason, J.Kline
T (4) M.Cannon, N.Solder, S.Vollmer, C.Fleming
DE (5) R.Ninkovich, C.Jones, J.Sheard, T.Flowers, G.Grissom
DT (4) D.Easley, S.Siliga, M.Brown, Z.Moore
ILB(2) D.Hightower, J.Morris
OLB(3) J.Collins, J.Mayo, J.Freeny
CB (5) L.Ryan, M.Butler, B.Fletcher, M.McClain, T.Brown
SS (4) P.Chung, T.Wilson, J.Richards, N.Ebner
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

Went without Branch as we have younger beef at DT. Left Chris Jones off but I think Bill will find a way to get him on. Left Roberts off for now but if he's not IRed I think he'll bump someone. Went with 5 WR + Slater but I could see going with 4 + Slater as we have Chandler as another receiving TE now. Could definitely see Gibson or Dobson gone for one of the later tough cuts (Roberts, Jones).

I don't prefer Moore to Branch as a DT, especially since you only have four.
I prefer Roberts over Ebner.
I alos have Dobson. As you say, if don't look good, I go with 4, and add a RB or OL.

@Patriots: SAT STAT: A rookie free agent has made the #Patriots Wk 1 roster in 11 straight seasons, tied for 3rd-longest in NFL. http://t.co/zkjenH0FLB

It will come down to Andrews vs. Harper vs. none

Chris Jones, Brandon LaFell, Ryan Wendell, and Dane Fletcher are all on PUP currently.

Thanks, and ass-uming that (for now) all 4 are placed on Reserve PUP, here's another update:

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo
RB (5) L.Blount, B.Bolden, J.White, J.Gray, J.Develin
WR (5) J.Edelman, D.Amendola, B.Gibson, A.Dobson, C.Harper
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, S.Chandler, J.Mundine
C (2) B.Stork, S.Mason
G (3) T.Jackson, J.Kline, R.Groy

DT (4) M.Brown, D.Easley, S.Siliga, A.Johnson
ILB(2) D.Hightower, J.Morris
OLB(4) J.Mayo, J.Collins, G.Grissom, D.Watson
CB (5) T.Brown, M.Butler, L.Ryan, B.Fletcher, D.Roberts
SS (3) P.Chung, J.Richards, N.Ebner
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (4) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona, Slater

I don't want to even think of Brady missing games, so I will continue to include him.
White replaces Lewis at RB.
LaFell (PUP) replaced by Harper, and Boyce dropped; I've given-up on him.
I'm still hoping that Mundine is our obligatory UDFA to make the 53 ahead of HooHah.
Wendell to PUP, Andrews to PS, and Devey to McD's.
Zach Moore's versatility beats out Rufus J.
Antonio J's work ethic beats out Alan Branch's lack of same.
Chris Jones to PUP.
I prefer the vet Watson at backup OLB and the true ILB Morris at backup ILB.
Brad Fletcher showed me enough to place him ahead of Dax Swanson, who committed a dumb ST penalty that didn't help his cause at all.
And I'd rather have Ebner instead of TFWilson 7 days a week and twice (and especially) on Sundays.

I'm fine with your entire roster.

I have no issues other than the health of Dane Fletcher. PUP seems more likely, with Morris having the roster spot.

And yes, I agree that Dobson is now on the outside looking in.

Some folks might think that Lewis showed enough. I guess he could make the Game 1 roster.

- Yes I agree Morris could take that roster spot if Dane does not return very soon.

- I've always had Dobson on the Roster but I think Harper could be the leader for that 5th WR spot. Dobson/Boyce/Tyms can have all the talent in the world...but being Injured/Inconsistent/Lazy negates all that. Players that are playing and producing have a better chance to make the roster then those that are not.

- If Lewis continues to be productive in pre-season...he could certainly replace White. White could possibly make it to PS or be traded. The next 2 games will be telling.

We could probably get a 6th for White. I don't think that Belichick will give up on him. He's been developing well. He's had a good preseason.

I guess the question we cannot answer is who will make the team without playing any significant preseason reps.

Yeah...not a great UDFA haul this year.
I like Andrews though.

I agree with the first sentence, but not so much with the second. Andrews is just another midget JAG.

Here's my new one:

QB (2): Garoppolo, Lindley
RB (5): Gray, Bolden, Lewis, White, Develin
WR (6): Edelman, Amendola, Dobson, Gibson, Harper, Slater
TE (3): Gronkowski, Chandler, Hoomanawanui
T (4): Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Fleming
G (3): Jackson, Mason, Kline
C (2): Stork, Andrews
DL (4): Siliga, Brown, Easley, Moore
DL/LB (5): Cha. Jones, Ninkovich, Sheard, Flowers, Grissom
LB (5): Hightower, Collins, Mayo, Freeny, Fleming
CB (5): Butler, Brown, McClain, Roberts, Fletcher
S (6): McCourty, Chung, Richards, Harmon, Wilson, Ebner
ST (3): Gostkowski, Allen, Cardona
Susp/PUP/NFI: Brady, Blount, LaFell, Wendell, Chris Jones, D. Fletcher
PS: Krause, Mundine, Bequette, Groy, C. Martin, ****son, R. Johnson, Vellano, E. Martin, Swanson

-Lewis carves his way onto the roster, although I wonder if BB might see him and White as redundant, especially with Bolden also able to work the third down role.
-Harper in, Tyms out. I'm guessing Tyms to IR once he doesn't have to hit waivers, but he could also just be released. The possibility of Reggie Wayne would probably push Harper right back onto the PS, as does LaFell's eventual return.
-Mundine looked decent, saw snaps with Brady. I don't see much reason to give him a 53 spot, but he might have a future.
-The 9th OL spot (I give it to Andrews) is uninspiring. No one really deserves it...Andrews, Barker, Groy, Martin are the choices. I would hardly call those "choices."
-I feel unrealistic only including two pure DTs (Siliga and Brown), but Branch and Antonio Johnson both seem like JAGs and I like Moore. I noticed that although Moore's move to DT this season has been talked about, he did play a good amount of RDE last night.
-I took away Eric Martin's spot because he's not really a LB, he's a pass rushing DL/LB which is already packed to the brim. I feel like the "minimum" number of linebackers used to be 6 or even 7, but now people are talking about keeping 4. I only remember that happening for one or two weeks in 2012.
-Martin's 5th LB spot went to Darius Fleming for no particular reason other than James Morris does not look like he has NFL athleticism and there's no other options. Any idea about Dekoda Watson? I read that he may also be more of an edge type like Martin, which would make him unnecessary.
-I finally gave up on Ryan and gave his spot to Fletcher, although the likelihood of that is probably not high.

My current roster. Left Blount out, since he's suspended week 1. Once he comes back, I assume one of these RBs will get the axe to make room, but maybe not if Belichick wants to maintain some White/Lewis injury redundancy:

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo
RB (5) J.Gray, B.Bolden, J.Develin, J.White, D.Lewis
WR (5) J.Edelman, B.LaFell, D.Amendola, B.Gibson, C.Harper
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, S.Chandler, M.Hoomanawanui
C (2) B.Stork, D.Andrews
G (3) T.Jackson, S.Mason, R.Wendell
T (4) M.Cannon, N.Solder, S.Vollmer, C.Fleming
DE (5) R.Ninkovich, C.Jones, J.Sheard, G.Grissom, T.Flowers
DT (5) D.Easley, M.Brown, S.Siliga, A.Branch, A.Johnson
ILB(3) D.Hightower, D.Fletcher, J.Morris
OLB(2) J.Mayo, J.Collins
CB (5) L.Ryan, M.Butler, T.Brown, D.Roberts, B.Fletcher
SS (3) P.Chung, J.Richards, N.Ebner
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (4) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona, Slater

LaFell to PUP wouldn't surprise me either, in which case I expect Dobson would make it.

Currently mine

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo
RB (6) J.Gray, L.Blount, J.White, D.Lewis, B.Bolden, J.Develin
WR (6) J.Edelman, B.LaFell, D.Amendola, A.Dobson, C.Harper, M.Slater
TE (2) R.Gronkowski, S.Chandler
C (1) B.Stork
G (4) T.Jackson, S.Mason, R.Wendell, J.Kline
T (4) N.Solder, S.Vollmer, C.Fleming, M.Cannon

DE (5) R.Ninkovich, C.Jones, J.Sheard, G.Grissom, T.Flowers
DT (4) S.Siliga, M.Brown, A.Branch, D.Easley
ILB(2) J.Mayo, D.Hightower
OLB(4) J.Collins, J.Morris, E.Martin, R.Johnson
CB (5) M.Butler, T.Brown, D.Roberts, M.McClain, B.Fletcher
SS (2) P.Chung, T.Wilson
FS (3) D.McCourty, J.Richards, D.Harmon

ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

Some notes.

Toughest cuts Ryan, Jones, Hooman,

Ryan lost due to a numbers game and contract issues. Also he has had the worse camp of any CB.

Chris Jones is out cause of Easily/Grissom and injuries. They both rush from the interior and do it better than him. He simply will not see the field with them.

Hooman is a surprise cut but the Pats opt to carry 6 RBs and Flemming is another blocking TE and Develin can play some TE too. Frankly they decide to save a little money here cause he is not needed at this point and carrying both Lewis and White looks like the way to go and they are not keeping only 8 OL men.

Harper is the UDFA that make the team this year keeping the tradition alive.

6 LBs are kept and the backups help fill out STs.
