Fair enough. Much in the same way that I thought it would be common sense to refer to the term "football players" on a "football forum". I guess not.

fair catch fryar, are you mad?

@MikeReiss
Contract note: Cal WR Chris Harper, an undrafted free agent signing with Patriots, receives $20,000 guaranteed ($15,000 in signing bonus).

@MikeReiss
Contract note: Michigan QB-turned-WR Devin Gardner, undrafted free agent signing w/ Patriots, gets $15,000 guaranteed ($5k in signing bonus)
Miguel:
How much of this money counts against the $80,000 bonus money set aside for udfas?

Who are we cutting to add these UDFAs?

The 2015 class of udfas was somewhat short of overwhelming. With $80,000 in bonus money and
only 5 open spots, I expected a little better. If we're only looking for roster stuffers, give the local kids a chance.
That sounds well intentioned, but if I recall correctly 365 days ago there was this bottom of the 90-man roster defensive back from division 2 West Alabama that the Patriots signed. With the Pats having already signed veteran free agents Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner and Patrick Chung to their roster in an attempt to upgrade the secondary, conventional wisdom was that Malcolm Butler was nothing but camp fodder who had zero chance of playing a regular season down in the NFL.

I think what is happening is that there will be five signings, plus a few players brought in for tryouts. I recall the Pats did the same thing last year. There were a couple players last year that went on twitter saying 'I'm going to Foxboro', 'I'm a Patriot', etc., and it turned out that either wasn't the case, or that they were only invited for a tryout.

The original five that would have brought the roster up to 90 were:
- Dave Andrews (C, Georgia)
- Devin Gardner (WR/QB, Michigan)
- Jimmy Jean (CB, Alabama-Birmingham)
- Chris Harper (WR, California)
- Brandon King (S, Auburn)

Mike Reiss reported some contract info (above) on Harper and Gardner, so that's two definite signings.

It is now being reported that the Pats also signed Vanderbilt DT Vince Taylor, so one of Andrews, Jean and King could just an invite for a tryout, rather than someone else being cut.

The Patriots have also reportedly invited Sam Houston State TE Shane Young for a tryout.

Vanderbilt's Vince Taylor signs with Patriots | The Tennessean

Vanderbilt defensive lineman Vince Taylor signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New England Patriots on Monday afternoon.

Taylor, who had earlier accepted a non-contracted invitation to attend Oakland Raiders mini-camp, changed course by inking with the Patriots, the team that flew to Nashville to work him out the week before the draft.

Taylor confirmed his signing via text message. He will arrive in Foxborough, Mass., on Thursday to prepare for mini-camp.

Taylor, a 6-foot-1, 307-pounder, has played nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme and defensive tackle in a 4-3 alignment. He could do both for the Patriots, who utilize both 3-man and 4-man fronts.

Last season, Taylor led Vanderbilt interior defensive linemen with 43 tackles and a team-high two fumble recoveries. He finished his career with 87 tackles in 50 games, including 22 starts over the past two seasons.

Good info, didn't think of that. The roster management this time of year is fascinating to me, for some reason.

The five udfas the Patriots have allegedly
signed so far were rated by CBS Draft Scout as follows 328th, 420th, 457th, 552th, and (not among their
top 1000 players).

If you are going to torture yourself with the moronic drivel, feel free. Please stop using it to torture the rest of us.

No, not at all actually. Now I'm just a little perplexed by your choice of this half naked guy to try and antagonize me. What ever gets you excited I guess, just not my cup of tea. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just not my thing, but have it Kontra. I'll go back to reading about football. Have a nice day and enjoy your picture.
