Amendola restructures contract

@Brady6 suicide watch.
Nah it is what it is, I'm not a big fan and think he was a lousy signing one of the worst of Belichick tenure here in fact but given the circumstances of his contract logistically the restructuring made sense.

Given he was instrumental in winning us a fourth Super Bowl, I have a whole laundry list of signings I'd wager were worse than Amendola.

Randall Cobb costs more than Amendola & Edelman combined. Again, yes, Edelman is making Amendola seem like he's overpaid by stealing his position and being a beast with his reps. But for the price of less than 1 guy, we have 2 competent receivers, with Amendola providing excellent redundancy behind Edelman. If Cobb gets hurt, you have $10 mill a year sitting on IR. If Edelman gets hurt, you're out $4 mill that year and Amendola steps in and probably performs to maybe 80-90% JE's production.

That's smart business by BB.

That's your opinion and I respect your right to have it, mine remains the same, I don't see the instrumental performance that you do, with the exception of the first touchdown in the Ravens game I felt his production was a correlation that would have been produced by whoever was in the 3rd WR role.

That is my view but honestly I don't want to get into a big back and forth about our #3 WR so if you or anyone else do not like my opinion on Amendola I suggest you deal with it and move on because no matter how many times my posts about him are quoted by posters my opinion will remain the same I do not think Amendola is a very good NFL WR, but I do think he is an effective kick returner. End of story.

And without that touchdown the Patriots probably lose and don't even get to the Super Bowl.
That's is a strong possibility and I do not disagree but at the end of the day 1 game or 1 play is not going to sway my view of a player.

Reiss is saying it basically looks like a 1 year deal.

As part of the restructure, Amedola’s base salary in 2015 was slashed from $4 million to $1.25 million. He did receive a signing bonus of $500,000 and his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives increased from $500,000 to $750,000. Amendola’s new salary cap charge for 2015 is $3.1 million. The Patriots saved $2.58 million on the cap with this restructure.

The final two seasons of Amendola’s contract were not altered, and it’s fair to wonder whether the Patriots will have Amendola on their roster under those terms in 2016 ($5 million) and 2017 ($6 million).

BTW those last 2 years are dead hits of $2.4m and $1.2m

Nice. Great move by the Pats. I'm glad Amendola is here for next year.

I'm liking this. Could always restructure again next year if in a similar circumstance, or save $2.6M by cutting him then.

Edelman is also underpaid for what he means to the team.

While Edelman is underpaid, so is Tom Brady.. And I honestly believe that some of the players look at Brady and realize that money isn't everything and that if winning means anything, you have to sacrifice a bit to be there because football is such a team sport..

$3.1M is probably a slight overpay compared to Amendola's actual value to the team, but that's something that you can easily live with. To me, what's more important than any small overpay is that he was willing to take a paycut to stay - that says a lot about him.

Considering $1.2M was sunk it is actually just $1.9M of new cap money, which honestly is a good value for a #3 WR and primary kick return.

I don't really get the math on the Amendola deal.

Old salary: $4 million

New deal:

$1.25 mil salary
$0.5 mil signing bonus
$0.5 mil game day roster bonuses

$o.75 NLTBE incentives

I'm not complaining. It's a good restructure for the Pats. I'm just not seeing how it saves $2.58 on the cap unless the game day roster bonuses are NLTBE?

It certainly makes life easier when your wife is projected to become a billionaire in the next 4 years

It's because the roster bonuses aren't new - they were in his old contract too. See this from Miguel's page: http://www.patscap.com/amendola.html#amendola

Ah, thanks! I knew I was missing something in the equation.

So, he whacked his salary from $4 million to $1.75 million (salary plus signing bonus). I was thinking it would be great if the Pats could get him down to $2 million. That's a really good outcome.

We'll worry about next year next year.

Yes, but I fully believe that Brady handles things the way Bruschi did. Remember that Bruschi just wanted to be paid a fair amount. Not the highest.. Not the lowest. And I don't believe that his finances from Gisele matter one bit to him when it comes to his Pats contract.
