When attempting 50+ pass attempts in a playoff game or superbowl:

Pats 4-1
Rest of NFL 3-27

Really goes to show how the Patriots treat their passing game as an extension of the running game. Brady is so damn quick on his reads, finding the open man and delivering the ball in the perfect spot to turn upfield. He rarely gives the defense a chance on those throws, his INT's are almost exclusively on downfield throws, so not only are you minimizing the fumble risk getting the ball outside the tackle box, you're also adding almost no risk of INT because of Brady's decision-making and accuracy.

The 'death by a thousand paper cuts' approach isn't the sexiest thing in the world, and it's a far cry from the air show they put on in 2007, but with this QB and these offensive weapons it's an unstoppable weapon.

going back to his roots........a game plan an old man can implement

Oh, I heard another stat this morning on Toucher and Rich (I know, I was as surprised as anyone to hear stats from them!); I don't have the exact figures but they said Brady was something like 25 of 27 for 178 yards and 2 TD when he released the ball within 2 seconds. One incompletion was a batted ball, the other was a throwaway.

When he and the receivers are in sync, and Brady is reading the defense well, the quick passes are indefensible. It's not even a debate at this point, it just cannot be stopped. The question is how to get to that level of defensive recognition and QB/WR synchronization all the time, if that can ever be perfected Brady could play to 50 and win ten more championships.

9 kickoffs and punts.....

total return yardage for the seahawks? 6

It would also be interesting to see how playoff teams have done having less than 60 yards rushing. I would be surprised if any of them won a game but I could be wrong. The Pats have shown that with a special qb like brady, conventional wisdom of needing a balanced attack to win is not always true, although of course it helps. Next year, it would be good to get Brady a reliable running game. The truly amazing thing in this playoff run, especially against the great defenses of the Ravens and Seahawks is how the Pats completely made the defense aware that the running game was abandoned and were still able to effectively move the ball and score.

The Pats in post season:
before BB - 0-6
during BB - 3-1 (2006 chargers (W), 2007 giants (L), 2014 Ravens (W), 2014 Seahawks (W)

Run the damn ball used to be my motto, but I've finally come to my senses with this team.

KO return yardage: 0 [Super Bowl record]

Which will never be broken!
Seriously, that one will be tied a dozen times in the next twenty years if they keep the rules this way.

14 yards rushing against Baltimore and they win the game - UN-believable!!
