The Patriots vs Packers POST Game Thread

We're gonna have to self-scout hard. You could see it in Belichick's face afterwards that he knew McCarthy got the best of his staff.

Also, I wish McDaniels would stop running on 3rd and short in the first against teams who either play with good gap integrity or aren't overly susceptible to the run. The Pats thought they could out-talent GB and were proven wrong. If there is a rematch, we're gonna have to scheme our butts off.

I have no doubt that they will do just this during the week.

You brought up something interesting I was thinking about earlier. The Patriots pride themselves on tailoring their offensive game plan to attack the perceived weakness of the opponent. However, when said perceived weakness is actually a non-factor, like the Packers 30th-ranked run defense tonight, sometimes it seems like the offense goes through a rough stretch where they struggle to find the right adjustments or mix of plays.

That being said, perhaps the Patriots were not as diligent as they intended to be with the commitment to the running game after falling behind early?

It will be interesting if some of the more experienced posters here who know X's and O's can offer more insight after reviewing the all-22.

Pats absolutely do not have to finish with a better record than the Broncos. If they have the same record at the end Pats hold the tie breaker.

I doubt the pats and Broncos finish with the same record though. Regardless I will feel much better about today if Denver loses tonight.

1. Big plays hurt us (especially the one to Nelson before the half)
2. Rodgers is the real deal. I would take him over forehead and Luck any day of the week.
3. The defense couldn't get off the field which allowed Green Bay to control the clock. The offense had limited opportunities to score.
4. Tough to rattle Rodgers when there is no pass rush

Even though the Pats made some mistakes they still had a chance to win. I am not that upset about losing to a very good team in their house. On to San Diego.

1. True.
2. The last sentence is true, especially Luck, because I'm not impressed with him. However, he and even RG3 with 6-8 seconds of bouncing around in the pocket on every play with no pressure and having Ryan defend his WR (Ryan on WR = WIDE OPEN) would've been just as successful.
3. Definitely agree. That is why I questioned Belichick for not going for it on 4th and 18 with 2 minutes to play.
4. True.

I'm not that upset about the loss, in fact I feel like the Pats lost the game more than the Packers won it. The refs were not as bad as last week, They gave the O a break with the call that went in Edelman's favor, where he ran into the defender and claimed PI. Some other notes, Gronk should've held on to the pass. Belichick should've allowed Brady to go for it on 4th. The percentage of getting the first or scoring a TD may have been low, but the percentage of the Pats D getting the ball back from Rodgers with 2 minutes + left to go in the quarter was just as low, especially when there is no pass rush. Rodgers was killing the Pats in TOP all game and those sorry boys in the secondary, Ryan, Arrington, McCourty and especially Dennard would eventually give Rodgers an opportunity to get a first down, so Brady's chances of ever getting the ball back was slim to none. I don't have faith in the Pats secondary, only Revis and maybe I will develop some for Browner, once he stop getting the D in trouble with stupid penalties. I wish Belichick would get more aggressive on defense and stop with all the conservative "bend-but-don't-break play-calling. It kills the Pats in big games.

The O was fine. They played like they play any other game. The difference is they had less opportunities to make up for their mistakes, because the D allowed Rodgers to keep Brady on the sideline. When Brady got opportunities he was being harassed all game, which led to throwaways or someone was committing drive-killing penalties. It is just pathetic sometimes. But I did predict the Pats would lose this one and go on undefeated the rest of the season.

Our D did its job but the O crapped their pants.

What game were you watching? When the GB punter does not get on the field until 2 minutes left in the third quarter for his first punt of the game, that pretty much tells you the D in fact did not do its job.

Besides that blatant push off, did Dennard A.) Play well? or B.) Not see the field?

I don't know why he got pushed to the bench by Ryan who is consistently picked on

The adjustment issue seems to be true. I fully believed that unless we had a 6/7 man o-line and went jumbo, we weren't going to run the ball well. I feel we really showed our hand in IND with that look, and now teams are prepared for it. The good news is that if you execute, their expecting it is nullified.

I know this is false, in my mind, but emotionally I frankly feel like we held back on offense. We did not work hard to establish a running game, and we should have. It almost felt like we didn't want to throw our playbook at them, but purposefully held back because there is such a high probability we will see them again, when it really matters.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

That package seems more potent with Fleming in there as opposed to Cannon. I am confident that it will be more productive going forward than it was tonight.

I really wanted the offense to get a chance to win the game. I shouted the same word brady shouted after the defense gave up the 3rd down conversion. This frustrates me so much for the simple fact this game was soooooo winnable. If the patriots play well they win. Forget the defense, if the offense shows up the patriots win.. That being said, the patriots won't lose again the rest of the season.

I don't recall screaming at my TV after seeing Dennard in coverage for a pass - so I assume he did just fine. He did get screwed by that awful no-call pass interference though,

Wouldn't you think that BB would learn that rushing a passer or signing a pass rusher can make a world of difference? See SB 42 & 46.
Chandler Jones.

How the f*** do they miss that call? That was a huge 3rd down. He has to be better than Ryan...

Probably already mentioned.....can we please get rid of the Vereen up
the middle play.Hate it Hate it Hate it:mad:
I'm done with Vereen. He's fast, but he rarely gets to use it. He's supposed to be the new Faulk, but he's not clutch or even particularly good as a receiver. I'm hoping that they find a proper all-purpose back for next year.

Just showed the end of half td on post game, McCourty blew that. Bit outside when at best the right side (his view) ran the same post as Nelson. Said it was a bad safety play at the time, now it was nationally exposed.
I'll have to see that play again, but I'm pretty sure a wheel route by that receiver in the flat was about to become wide open too. I'm not sure Rodgers doesn't get a TD to that receiver if McCourty follows Nelson.

Usually I am not fed up with players. But, today I was. Cannon and Ryan frustrated me during today's game.

As bad as the Pats played the Nelson TD at the half and the no call PI on the end zone pass to Gronk pm the last pats possession was the difference in the game.

Ryan was left on an island, tough situation and Rogers did what a good QB would do, no sure why Arrington wasn't put on that spot.
