***Ray Rice---The Whole Video*** [Update: Ravens release Rice]

Retroactively changing the punishment (by Gomerall) is sure to cause a lawsuit and as a result, this story won't go away. Dumb.
It was still the smart thing to do. I've been saying since day 1 they should throw the book at Rice and make the NFLPA be the villains by defending an abusive boyfriend. Even if you lose in court, you're not the ******* in the court of public opinion.

Another Deadspin entry, this time highlighting the thoughts of Keith Olbermann, who has some very serious accusations.

Yeah I watched that show. Keith Olbermann said even though they cut Rice, we should boycott the Ravens so long as Goodell is commissioner and the current Ravens management team is still in place, which makes no sense whatsoever because if you have a problem with Goodell you should boycott the league. But I guess his self righteousness only goes so far.

Then he showed Ravens highlights later in that same show. I kid you not.

Did you hear something we didn't hear?

Did you see the second Deadspin link? I think it's only the beginning of the Commish's office being slow roasted for their handling of this

No I didn't. I'm kind of late to this discussion, so I missed a lot. I'll go look it up.
That said, I hope the Commish gets what he deserves. I do not like that man.

They should have released him. I would lose all respect I have for Kraft if one of our players did this, and was allowed to stay on the team.

It was reported that Belichick threatened Hernandez with termination after Hernadez was involved in a domestic disturbance with his fiance in which he wasn't arrested.

The Mortensen quote included here is especially damaging to the NFL.

NFL Says it Didn't Have Ray Rice Knockout Video, But Reporters Said Otherwise This Summer | The Big Lead

On a July 26th radio appearance on Dari and Mel (a snippet of which we have included at the bottom of this post), ESPN’s Chris Mortensen was asked what went into the NFL’s decision to suspend Ray Rice for just two games.

“I think the expectations from around the league — even from the Ravens internally — was that it would be more than two games,” Mortensen answered. “We’ve all seen the TMZ video of Ray dragging [his fiancée] off an elevator. I’m told by numerous sources — or, a few good sources — that the video from inside the elevator, which we’ve never seen, shows Janay surely attacking Ray, so he’s in a confined area. But still, what they tell you to do, is get away from it or restrain. You can restrain her, but you can’t deliver a punch, an uppercut, which Ray allegedly did inside that elevator. I’m told that Janay hit her head on the railing. That would seem to justify a pretty severe sanction.”

Mortensen did not outright say that the NFL had seen the tape, and did not defend the league’s two-game punishment.

“I can’t say with 100% surety that the NFL did see the video,” Mortensen tells The Big Lead. “But if I was able to get the detailed account of what happened, you’d think that the NFL, with all its resources and investigative reach, would have been able to procure a full explanation, if not the video itself.”

As Schefter said, the initial report came from Jane McManus that the Ravens and NFL had seen the elevator footage. Here's what she tweeted:

I don't expect it, but I certainly wouldn't be shocked if Goodell is forced to resign in the fallout from all of this. At this point, literally everyone recognizes that he's an overpromoted, underqualified clown who sanctions entirely based on public opinion.

I don't see how anyone can watch that video, read about how Goodell was 'swayed' by Palmer pleading with him (while Rice was in the room, FFS), and conclude that he's anything more than an incompetent moron at best and a terrible human being at worst. Well, some people can, John Clayton is already playing the part of the company man. But only people with a vested interest in protecting 'the shield'.

So for the Ravens, if you hit a woman you are off the team (only after the video becomes public). If you murder someone you are welcomed with open arms...and they make a statue of you when you retire. What a wonderful team to be a fan of.

TMZ is reportedly going to release more news tomorrow, including proof that the NFL knew of the existence of the video from day one and chose to ignore it, per Tony Perkins of FOX Ch. 5

Today the attention was on Ray Rice, and tomorrow it'll be on the commissioner. This is some masterful PR planning. Whoever is behind it isn't out to get Rice, he's out to get Goodell.

What if the end of goodell is near?? Could be possible if the NFL had seen the video and tune scribe and joker will be happy, along with some of the rest of us

Watching everyone get excited like Roger Goodell is going to get fired over this is so cute! It's adorable!!

I have to say, this is just about the best silver lining one could hope for after a bad loss. It's a "perfect storm" of cirucmstances that pits 3 detestable parties against each other:

1. The NFL league office and particularly the Commissioner, who mishandled the issue from the start and may have done far worse.

2. The Ravens organization, from the FO to the thug players to the fans.

3. The mediots, many of whom went along to some extent with the party line and are now crying foul that they were "mislead".

All 3 of these groups come out looking bad, and they are pointing fingers at one another for who should take the blame.

Beautiful.

Speculation in the mainstream non-sports media about Goodell's successor has begun...

That Goodell is an unduly vain commissioner, and a self-serving one with his eye on some further prize, has always been obvious. That he obfuscates and evades on tough issues unless they are convenient for him, that his convictions are highly selective and so is his enforcement, has never been more apparent. On Monday morning, with the surfacing of that video, Goodell’s nature became totally clear. The NFL claims in a statement that no one in the league office had seen the tape before. That is almost surely not the truth, unless the NFL wanted it that way. This is a league that works with Homeland Security, confers with the Drug Enforcement Agency, collaborates with law enforcement and has its own highly equipped and secretive private security arm. You’re telling me it couldn’t get ahold of a grainy tape from an Atlantic City casino elevator? But TMZ could?

If NFL executives and Baltimore Ravens staff had never seen that tape before, there are only two reasons: willful blindness, and the determination to maintain plausible deniability…. Ray Rice’s own attorney had a copy of it. It simply defies belief that league and team officials couldn’t have seen it if they wanted to."

well, it'll all blow over...nothing to see here...except my huge unit and all my trophy girlfriends who I throw out with the trash when they assault me...

Rice was seen dragging an unconscious body out of the elevator prior to today's video. What did John Harbaugh think happened? He only changed his stance because of the PR.

And then last year Jim Harbaugh allowing Aldon Smith to play vs. the Colts after his DUI where he crashed his car into a tree in front of someone's house, only to suspend him after the game lol.

Starting to become clear that the Harbaugh brothers have no scruples.

There is no logic in the belief that says Ray Rice's attorney had a copy of the tape, therefore the NFL would have had a copy of the tape. Rice's attorney is entitled to the evidence against his client, the NFL is not. And since the evidence is pretty damning, Rice's attorney would have been among the first people unwilling to share it with the league.

So Sally Jenkins, a well known and respected sports journalist possesses "no logic" and therefore YOUR precious Goody and the NFL are completely innocent of everything?

Ray Rice video: TMZ says they have proof NFL knew about video, but 'turned a blind eye' to it | NJ.com

Just to be clear, TMZ isn't saying that the league saw the video before issuing the initial punishment. They're saying that they NFL knew about the video (and presumably that they had the means of obtaining it) and chose to turn a blind eye. Not as bad, although still really bad and proof that Goodell should be wearing clown shoes to work.
