Next week: 3 days of Revis vs. Desean Jackson.......I know I'm biased, but does anyone else think that NFL TC is more interesting than midseason MLB?

Watching infrared of someone fart at the airport is more interesting than midseason MLB.

Classic Revis. So awesome. I can't wait. This is really exciting, but on the other hand, hearing all these reports that our offense is getting dominated is sort of scary. That's been the theme of training camp, no? Hopefully it's just because the D is OP and not because our offense stinks.
Offense is playing without Gronk and Dobson

"* Another day, another absence for Josh Boyce. He came into camp with the potential to be a valuable sub for the Pats wide receiving group loaded with injury risks. The longer he stays off the field injured, the less likely he is to take on that role, it seems."

Another absence? According to Jeff Howe today's practice was the first one missed by Boyce.

This will probably be my last offering for the next few weeks. The team has their HOF, season ticket holder elitist practice tomorrow (I wasn't invited.....again), and then it will be off to Virginia for a week of work with the Redskins. But for me it was a day of highlights and here are a few observations

BTW- for a midweek practice, the place was packed. Well over 10,000 and a packed bleachers. I mean I have an excuse being retired. I have to wonder if employers know where their employees are. ;)

1. BB let his foot up a bit on the physical intensity today. A lot more team and situational work, so more time for players to be standing around. As a former coach, one of t he things that has always impressed me about BB's practices is how little stand around time players get. They are organized and planned so well. But today with all the team work, players got more of a break.

2.Highlight #1 - Marcus Cannon was once again starting a RG with the first group. This makes hme very happy. The only negative was that for much of the day, our front 7 made the OL miserable. But the D SHOULD be ahead of the offense at this stage of the game. And yes haters, Wendell DID get most first team snaps. ;)

3 Highlight #2 Josh Boyce and Matthew Slater both returned to the practice field. Unfortunately Hooman and Stork remained sidelined (along with Dobson and Easley)

4. IN a team situational period with the offense coming out of the shadow of their own GL, the defense DOMINATED. Revis came off his man to jump a route and picked off Brady cleanly for a pick 6. It should also be noted that the coverage before the pick was excellent as Brady was forced to throw the ball to his 3rd or 4th look in his progression. Revis saw the man breaking open, left his man, and made the pick

5. The defense's reaction to the pick was notable. Wilfolk got right up in Brady's face. The whole defense celebrated, and together they chanted something like "hell no, we won't go" under the crossbars. It could be I was having a flash back to the 60's. Maybe someone who was on the hill could tell us what was actually being chanted. ;) At any rate this defense is playing with a real swagger, and Brady was REALLY pissed

6. The Pats played a lot of 3-4 for the third straight day. Than alignment saw Mayo and Collins in the middle with Hightower coming off the edge as the SLB. I think I'm getting a feel for HIghtower's rush abilities. I'd put it on a par with Ninko's and I'd be very happy if he turns out to be that good a rusher.

I saw one rush where he paired up with Jones to do a crossing stunt with him, good enough to cause a pressure. He also had at least one good rep in coverage on a TE in 7 on 7's

7. The "other safety" carousel was in full swing as Nate Ebner got a lot of first team repws. Also seeing more limited time with first group was Chung and Harmon. And for the record, Ebner looked the part. It was interesting to me that although he's the biggest of the "other safeties" most of the time he wound up with the deep coverage.

8. Highlight #3 - while I was standing in my usual spot by the stairs at the back row, a middle aged couple told me they they had come from Denmark and could I point out Tom Brady to them. I not only pointed him out but gave her my Binoculars (because he was on the far field). They couldn't have been more pleased. I couldn't happier to see them that pleased. Later, I also was able to point out a couple of open seats in the bleachers below us, thus securing my future entry into heaven for this good deed. ;)

9. OT- I sat next to a guy who was a producer over at WEEI. A real nice kid who was just staring out in the business. It was his day off and was there with his father and brother. Of course he was wired into the station so our little section was among to first know about the Lester trade. Ultimately I had to ask a few of the questions we all want to ask about sports media. Here are a few of the answers.

a. D&C are huge douche bags off the air as well as on it. He doesn't know how Dennis still has a job,
b. Dale and Holley are as good guys as you'd think and the best talent on the station.
c. a lot of the controversy between hosts is planned and staged
d. Minnihane is an arrogant jerk in real life and he wonders why he wasn't fired

10, The biggest highlight of my day, however, was meeting the great and powerful ZEUS. It was a pleasure and honor to spend some time and chat with one of the best posters on this board. He is actually smarter in person if you can believe it. If you ever get the pleasure to meet him you won't be disappointed. I look forward to our next meeting down the road.

Hey Ken - great to meet you! Thanks for the kind words.

Those who make a trip to practice should make an effort to meet Ken. He is every bit as personable as he is knowledgeable about football.

This was my first visit to practice this year. A couple of thoughts:

1. The defense seems to be enjoying themselves, mostly at the expense of the offense.

2. Unintentional comedy of the day was provided by LB Chris White who had the misfortune of trying to cover Roy Finch's wheel route during an RB passing drill. I hope Finch makes the team if for no other reason than the OL and DL can easily rest their drinks on his head at ****tail parties.

3. On the other hand, Justin Jones looks every bit as big as the 6'8" noted on the roster. He may have even gotten cheated at bit there.

4. Garappolo has a funky throwing motion where he doesn't appear to draw the ball all the way back behind his ear. It's a bit deceptive because you don't think he'll have much on the throw, and yet the ball really flies out of his hand. The release is very quick and the arm strength is there. As Ken has noted, he's more than a little bit lost at this point.

5. Ryan Mallett looks noticeably more confident and at ease.

6. Brady was seriously pissed about the Revis pick-6.

7. As good as the defense looked, I really didn't see anybody that was effective trying to cover either Edelcritter or Vereen.

8. Brandon LaFell is an intriguing player between the numbers, but I'm not sure what's he's got on the outside. Red zone passing with LaFell, Gronk and possibly Jones could be interesting though.

9. I still think Amendola has a lot to offer. He and Brady did get their wires crossed on one drill, but he did some nice things in the 11-on-11 segment at the end of practice. Once Dobson and (especially) Gronk return, it's a pretty deep and versatile receiving group.

It was a fun day. I'll try to make it back for the joint practices with the Eagles on 8/12 and 8/13. I've read that Chip Kelly practice's are rapidly-paced and well-organized. Should be interesting to see what he and BB come up with.

I'm using Curran's and Phil Perry's in person reporting of each practice for MY information. Curran reported Boyce missed yesterday's practice in his training camp-Day 6 report. Once again, Boyce was missing today as well...that's two days in a row. I'm ATTENDING tomorrow's practice in person so I'll get to see if Boyce is even present in any capacity.

here's the report from yesterday from Curran/Perry

http://www.csnne.com/new-england-patriots/postcard-patriots-training-camp-day-6

it's right there in the second paragraph listing those NOT present.

Howe is the Herald beat reporting and a pretty good one. Obviously he missed the absence of Boyce from yesterday's practice..or...you are reading WEDNESDAY'S report in the Herald.

This is quite interesting......What is this?.....Deus' alter ego?

quotation marks, bolding or italics would help make your post clearer. I thought YOU met Zeus also at first.

Patfanken,

I don't post much nor use many features beside 'next page' or else I'd have replied to you privately. I have two extra tickets for tomorrow's in stadium practice. email me at [email protected] if you want one.

you better take it, Ken...it's probably your only chance to see the Tunes and Joe Kerr in all their glory. Give the other ticket to Zeus...we can all see Ty Law go into the Patriot Hall together.

ok......wrong about andy johnsons name.....stupid on my part......eventually ill get to the bottom of this message board cloak and dagger ****

Deus is Deus...I have never thought otherwise

Andy Johnson was a terrific player for the Pats back in the 70's and early 80's

I'm not a counter puncher, I swing first and let the chips fall. I'll tell you my OPINION on just about anything...doesn't make me right about anything (ask Deus :D).

As far as trolls with multiple accounts, in all my time as a member of Patsfans I believe only Aqua4Ever, NEM, the despicable Rat troll 629 and the unbelievably reprehensible Remarker have made multiple manifestations here. Do I think there are Rat fans here using single accounts posing as "objective" Pats fans...I don't know, what do YOU think?
