thank you didn't know that, what I was going by was from a discussion of lions fansPettigrew just got a $4M signing bonus this offseason. He's also a much better player than Fauria at everything except catching touchdowns.
I wasn't really looking for a snarky response, but I said logjam because they are all quality TEs. We have 3 TEs too, but outside of gronk they suck. Is it practical for detroit to run 3 TE sets? I don't recall Caldwell doing that in indy.
No snark intended, I was just pointing out that what Detroit has isn't excess. It's the prototype TE roster: 1 classic TE, 1 who should excel as a joker, and depth in the form of a promising young player on cheap contract. You don't have to run 3 TE sets to require a 3rd TE on the 53.
As for the suggestion that having 3 **quality** players is more excessive, I see it exactly the opposite. If you CAN'T find a 3rd TE who deserves a roster spot, then you consider carrying just 2. But quality depth at the position is the ideal. (Maybe if you had suggested that the depth would make Fauria available via trade? But you were talking about him being released.)
I really want one of Detroit's TE's but it isn't Fauria, its my binky from last year Michael Williams. He isn't much of a pass catcher yet but he is an elite blocking TE who would really boost our run game. If we are trying to get more physical upfront as our draft picks suggest then Williams would be perfect. He spent last year on IR and it's doubtful he makes the Lions roster this year. If we can sign Keller as more of a receiving threat and get Williams as a terrific blocker then I think we have a pretty good group at TE with Gronk (even if he starts on PUP) and Hooman. Williams is an excellent special teamer who also lined up as a lead blocker in the backfield for Alabama so he offers a lot of versatility. Fauria is certainly a better redzone threat but I think Williams would offer move overall to this team.
Speaking of a potential Tight End target, it appears Rob Housler may be falling down the depth chart at Arizona. Given his untapped potential, Housler could be a player worth targeting in a trade.

I agree with you but the prevailing thought is Housler's ability to play as a H-Back may not necessarily fit what Arians is looking for from the the position.Maybe, but if I'm Arizona I'm keeping Housler ahead of old friend Jake Ballard, Darren brother of Daniel Fells, and Andy Hardy.
