Sherman won't get more than $14m per.

This isn't surprising. He's played very well and backed up his talk.

I think we always knew he was going to get a big time contract and so will revis next year from some other team

On the open market, he would absolutely make $12M+, so unless he decides that he wants to take less to help keep the core together in Seattle, I expect that that's what he'll get. Between Harvin's salary and locking up Wilson, Thomas, and Sherman, we're going to see a lot of premium talent leaving Seattle over these next couple of seasons.

As for how that pertains to Revis... well, Sherman is better and younger than Revis. If they're both chasing top dollar, Sherman will get more. Revis doesn't necessarily have to accept that, granted, but it's just what's going to happen.

Fine by me. He can tie up Seattle's cap all he wants.

Don't think Revis will command more than what he does now when we renegotiate his salary unless he has a dazzling pro-bowl season.

Even then, I think we'll start renegotiating a few games out of the gate.

Pats could offer Revis $18m next year and save what, $7m on the cap from his current hit for next year?

If they can renegotiate him down to 18m or less he will probably stay - especially if he plays like we've seen him do for the Jets.

This will test the Seahawks GM out though - Sherman on a big contract then next is Earl Thomas, couple of years time Wilson will be wanting $20m+ a year...

I'm very curious to see how the Seahawks approach those next years. The defense is basically based on Rookie Contracts and One-Year-Prove-it deals, so it will be hard for the 'Hawks to retain all this talent. Not mentioning Russel Wilson that is on the pace of a 20+ M/Y contract. Lucky for them, the Salary Cap is thought to rise a lot for the next 3 years (10M each year).

Anyway, i hope Sherman's contract don't raise the bar too high. It's incredible how much inflation dumb teams create, giving out massive contracts to mediocre talent (Not this case, in particular).

Why do some people act like the Pats traded for Revis and that there is no possible way he would re-sign with the Pats? Revis had no obligation to come to the Pats, he could have went elsewhere.

It's been reported that the one year deal was a " get him in the door/feeling out-period" deal and the Pats would like to lock him up long term.

The 2nd year option may have been done as a starting point for a new deal.

No CB should ever get 18 mill or get a 18 mill offer. Revis deal next year won't happen. Will be under a long term deal if it happens...not the $25 mill

The 2nd year was made so the Pats could not franchise-tag Revis. Which does not exclude the possibility of an extension, of course.

They already have him locked up (albeit with a larger cap hit), so there should be plenty of time during the period from the end of the year to the start of free agency should they decide to keep him on. You may be right, but I believe that the issue will be addressed when this year is up.

With the kind of money that they'll be talking about, one should probably wait to see more than a "few games," in my opinion.

You do understand, the Pats saving some absurd number on your virtual checkbook means nothing? There was never was and never will be a 25 mil season contract for him. Ever......

Save 7 million?

The suggested raises in the salary cap have come at a very good time for elite teams like Seattle. They should be able to retain the majority of their talent if they manage the cap well.

He didn't even get 16m this year, which he got last year, he won't get 18 next year, we'd only save 2m. 5m of next years 25m cap hit is from this season.

when discussing DB's and salaries please remember
1. The game is now a pass first and ask questions later
2. The preferred outside receiver is 6' 1" or taller with speed and force to burn. The age of smurfs (I love u David Patten) is over.
#. DB's have to physically match this issue and players such as Sherman will be at a premium $$$

I would guess that Seattle is fine with that because of Carroll's constant ability to get high level performances out of free agents and draft picks. Carroll puts players into situational rolls that fit their abilities and hide the weaknesses. They will always compete as long as the coach is ahead of everyone else.

If the Patriots want Revis long term they will get him, they have a great track record when it comes to keeping their best players. They won't pay huge money top Pro Bowlers but they will pay the big bucks to the future Hall Of Famers and that's the category Revis falls in.

When does JJ Watt become a free agent?

A guy can dream haha

How many players have Seattle lost to FA this year?

Browner, Bryant, Tate, and a couple of other CB's come to mind. They still have premier players, but looks like they lost a lot of depth behind them.
