BRB Film Review on why Texans will play better

Maybe. But that was a damn good breakdown of our schemes.
I find it interesting that he's said don't run up the middle. When the edge is contained and you're funnelled toward the middle in a zone run blocking scheme there's nowhere else to go (unless Foster/Tate go Peterson and can force it outside and hit a home run). Half the time, the Patriots disrupted the Texans OL. There's not much Schaub can see when he's got lineman in his face.

I've read nothing in that article to justify the title.

That was a really poor article. He let his biases ruin what might have been something worthwhile. For example, there's a reason that the Texans stopped running outside, and BB talked about it: The Patriots coaching staff saw what happened in the first couple of plays and almost immediately made adjustments to stop the wide runs.

That's the feeling I came away with Deus. It could have been a very good article that degenerated into look at what was available on film whilst disregarding game speed.

It ended up being an article of wishful thinking than a thorough breakdown piece.

This is an excellent breakdown.. really put in the work on it but as has been said, it's from the POV of a Texan fan, and so the objectivity isn't entirely there.

He doesn't get the big picture of our defensive game plan for that game which was to just nudge Schaub off his game with the idea, that once he's off his game, he tends to stay off.

Unfortunately for him, the keys WILL change. With this being a playoff game and with the Patriots having two weeks off, BB would be severely remiss if he overlooked that detail. If past playoff games have served as any indication, Scahub will see a few things he has never seen before.

"if they did not forget how to play their own patented brand of football", "capitalize on turnovers, dont make mistakes"... Sounds like a good plan to me. Sounds like he's expecting BB to come out with the same scheme. NOT!

So basically his break down is on hopes and ifs?

I'm baffled how the return of the texans #2 blocking tight end is a greater advantage than the return of hands down the best tight end in the league?

This guy clearly has a Texans bias. If he could pick up on any defensive tendencies I'm sure BB has already found and eliminated them during the bye week self scouting.

garrett graham is not guaranteed to play on sunday. he sustained a concussion last week and has not been cleared yet.

i liked the breakdown, much of what was said made perfect sense with the evidence being provided right there....

having said that, its obviously a texans fan writing it, so you gotta understand that his bias is gonna seep in and mar it a little bit, but still informative, look at the evidence, ignore his conclusions

.

When people want to be convinced of something, they reach for anything.

Even if Gronk wasn't playing in this game, would the Texans getting their TE back really be the difference maker? I'm not buying

I wonder how going 1 for 4 in the red zone and throwing a pick six, while having one of the best receivers in the league inexcusabley drop an easy TD pass in the end zone constitutes a perfect game on offense?

If that is considered perfect then the bar has been set mighty low in Houston.

And Graham suffered a concussion in the Bengals game, his second of the season. He practiced yesterday but he is no guarantee to either play or play well.

This is the best thread of the week, so far, IMHO.

Is anyone else going to post film analysis? :D

It matters, yeah. He's a significant part of their running game. It doesn't matter nearly as much as he wants to believe that it does, though. Apparently he thinks that they're going to play their best game of the season, and I dunno how much of that you can attribute to a blocking tight end getting healthy.

Which is one of the major reasons in our back and forth the other day why I don't think it's in the team's best interest to re-sign Talib to a long term pact which will likely average 7 million+.

I think it'd be great if he ends up staying for a lesser length or lesser money deal, but I also think there are plenty of possibilities that exist for McCourty to still remain at FS if he leaves too.
I don't think Talib will be worth that much on the market. He was only worth a 4th round pick this year, and half a season of good behavior doesn't prove he's ready for big money. I doubt anyone invests that much in him

This is really good breakdown of the Patriots strengths and weaknesses on defence, particularly in that game but the analysis is sorely lacking in one major point. He assumes that the Texans will adapt from the last game but the Patriots will just play exactly the same?

You can guarantee Belichick noticed how open Foster was on a number of check downs, and more importantly, Belichick knows that Kubiak will have noticed it too. We are going to key in on Foster the whole game. Bill even said the other day "I'm sure they will have some new wrinkles, I'm sure we'll have some too" (paraphrasing)

We've had two weeks to prepare and the writer thinks we're just going to play exactly the same scheme again. Well we'll see..

When are LOL and TTYL going to offer their insight ;)

Great Cincy run defense? Hmmm....

Which defense is which?

Total Yards:

319.7
373.2

Rushing:

4.1 YPC
3.9 YPC

Passing:
212.5
271.4

Scoring:
20 PPG
20.7 PPG

If the Bengals are a great rush defense then we must be the 85 Bears!

I get the Texans slant to the article and appreciate his film break down. But his need to over value the Bengals defense says a lot about how confidant he really is about his 34-31 prediction. And over the second half of the year Denver and Seattle were better defenses.
