Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

I post this message every year. After every agonizing loss. After every time we bend-and-break at a critical time.

I'll start by saying we lost tonight for a LOT of reasons -- both offensively and defensively. Pass rush was just one of many. But it's one that has bit us for YEARS and continues to bite us.

So here it is again. Take #5.

This season was lost AGAIN by a lack of a pass rush. Let's be honest -- our defense sucked most of the year, and we were lucky to make it to the SB. The fact that we lost it should be no huge surprise. Our boys did awesomely -- amazingly well -- with what they've got. We had a bit of pressure at the start of the game, but then it completely disappeared. We just let Manning air mail balls around the field at will. Fail.

This is a passing league, and the only -- ONLY -- way to beat a Manning or a Brees or a Rivers is to RUSH THE PASSER.

Can we for once get some blitzing talent? This "draft everyone except pass rushers" and "hire FAs that do everything except pass rush" strategy that we have used for about 6 years DOES NOT WORK.

I am so, so, so, so sick of us getting beat on 3rd and 14, or 3rd and 19, or 3rd and 11, or 3rd and 25. It's stupid. Every year our team has problems stopping 3rd and long. You can't lose a super bowl and be surprised when this is happening.

So please, Mr Kraft... Mr Bellichick... please, please get us some pass rushers this offseason. We need pressure on quarterbacks because current day rules make DBs impotent.

PLEASE!!
Yes i agree, in fact i'm not going to watch the draft this year (first time since 1978) because every year i expect to take a young pass rushing prospect or two and it never happens. And i don't expect it to change this year, i give up.

What was the ******* point of Ocho? Tapping out after just one play? Feck him, he should not even bother coming back to this locker, i will clean it up for him. Very disappointed in that acquisition.
Need to clean house and plan for life after Brady. Losing the Super Bowl comes with lots of bad luck the next season.

I find it hard to believe the problem was solely with Ocho. Brady is much more comfortable throwing inside routes and swing routes and is not the best at throwing the outside and deep routes. You can only have so many people running routes over the middle.

Manning made a living throwing the 10 yard in route to the WR. Brady threw that route once (not counting the last drive where he had a completion after rolling out to his right)

They lost because the Patriots offense didn't put distance between the Giants offense and the Patriots defense. On 3 occasions they had the ball in the 2nd half and could have put the Pats up by 2 scores, and they failed. Worse yet, they kept the ball for 6 mins in the fourth quarter and scored zero (0) points, giving it back to the Giants with 3:34. Just enough time for Eli to embarrass our Defense, once again. I think they should have gone for it on 4-11 from the NYG 44 – there was no way this defense was going to hold. And why the f-ck did Brady throw that stupid pass to Gronk - didn't he learn anything from the Slater play the game before? This one is on the offense. 17 points? really? I figured after being on the bench for most of the first half and still scoring 10, they would show their stuff in the 2nd half - pathetic. It is the offenses fault because they are the stronger unit, they had multiple opportunities to make sure this game didn’t come down to a defensive stop & they **** the bit.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

We sacked Eli a few times.

The Giants won the T.O.P, they scored 21, the 49ers defense gave up 20 to them, the Packers 37, the Falcons 24.

What do you guys honestly want?
Pass rushers. Legitimate pass rushers.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

I'm starting to think our primary need might be actual outside receivers.

Sad thing is it's just going to get harder next year.. Green Bay a young team and the division will get tougher. That said with BB & TFB there is always a chance. Just really felt this was the year so that feeling of deflation is hard to take right about now..

Oh and Andy Johnson.. While I appreciate your football insights and positivity, please don't predict we will beat the Giants (or any team if we reach another SB) easily again.

To be honest this loss wasn't as bad as the game that shall not be named.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

Our Modern Defense lacks something intangible. They don't come up with the clutch play, they don't come up with the sack on the last series when the other team has no Timeouts, they don't put in a 3 and out when you most need them too.

For some reason McGinnest, Bruschi, Law, Harrison... those guys did all of the above.

What we have is a collection of names and numbers, no leaders. Wilfork, the big teddy bear is our most vocal defensive leader. I've said it for ever. Our Defense lacks the intangibles.

SIDE NOTE: Support your Local Arena Football Team. They are about to start, and when you grab cheap season tickets and your going to games every weekend and them boom, pre-season NFL is here. I love it. Going to the Jax Sharks makes NFL off season fly by.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

I think what the OP wants is something like the Giants Dline. And the chances are, you're not going to get it unless you break the bank. Even if you want a JPP or Tuck, it's going to come at a high price.

In my opinion the pass rush was fine today and better when it mattered. Remembering the Denver game and the Ravens game, we did pressure the QB when we needed to.

Today the 'problem' was defensive secondary. Personally I think they did as well as they could have for 3 quarters but on a few critical plays couldn't stop the Giants. I don't think we need a massive ballhawk CB or break the bank for a safety. What we need is for them to grow up a bit and use today as experience. They will be good. And if you watch their tackling, strip technique and physicality for the first 3 quarters you will have seen a secondary that grew up a bit these past 2 weeks.

What he said.
The D played well but; when you really need them they can't produce at the end.

It never goes away because morons keep bringing it up.

Yeah, I'm pointing at you.

F*cking dolt.

Every year that passes where we lose on key plays we used to make gives the people talking about it more ammo. Did analyzing D signals post game help us out? Probably not. But that little bit of doubt is starting to creep into my head, and I am as navy and silver as they come.

Helps to actually watch the games. Clearly you didn't.

Seriously? Clearly you didn't watch the game because the Pass Rush was there. The problem was that Manning was able to beat it. It happens.

The Pats had a pass rush all year. This is clearly something you don't understand.

Do yourself a favor. Go follow a sport you can actually understand.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

Of all the reasons the Pats lost, I would say pass rush was very low on the list. In fact the pass rush was very good at times tonight.
You are correct, it was.

Of the bad plays, Welker's was the biggest "I can't believe that guy made that mistake!" one.

Hernandez's and Branch's drops weren't as big plays, as the drive still would have been tough with those catches.

We've seen Brady underthrow very long passes before -- this one just worked out as an INT.

The safety was just a bizarre play.

Hernandez's near fumble was surely no surprise, and besides it didn't cost us.

One or the other player destroyed on a block -- that happens.

So yeah -- Welker's drop happens to stand out a bit more.

I really feel awful about this loss. Probably worse than the last SB loss because there was so many missed opporunities.

But I just saw Wes Welker's post game press conference. No one feels as bad as that guy. I just hope that it does not damage his confidence going forward.

There were a couple of stupid Welker threads that I moved to the Practice Squad. With 'fans" like that, I'd rather Jets trolls post here.

Let's face something right now, the NFC was way way way more stacked than the AFC this year. This was a very flawed team who exceeded all expectations. In the immortal words of Gladiator, "are you not entertained?"

of course, the steelers blocked punt in 2001 ,the rams turning the ball 3 times in 2001 ,john kasey kicking the ball OOB in SB 38 were all because of the d signals. Brady had less than 100 yards apssing in sb 36 before the final drive. Dont let this get in your head. Bottomline - we made clutch plays /were also a bit lucky now were are 0-2 in both categories recently.

Re: Once again... for the 5th time... CAN WE GET A PASS RUSH PLEASE???!

Pass rushers. Legitimate pass rushers.

Pass rushers are overrated ( just ask Bill B. )
We draft for value so expect another injury prone CB ,another WR with a bum knee and another TE who can't catch or block.

I wish I could stop caring about football. It puts a strain on my life trying to watch every game and reading almost every post on the board here. I put so much time and passion into this team and when they come up short it devastates me. I wish I could like other sports so I could distract myself during the offseason but I can't get into anything else.

I'm taking this loss better than 07 but the thing that pains me most about this loss is that Brady blew his chance to be the greatest of all time. He'll now need two more Superbowl wins. One more to tie Montana and then one more to surpass him. He can't be considered Mr. Clutch in the Superbowl like Montana so the only thing he can do to surpass him is to win more Super Bowls which quite frankly at this stage in his career isn't going to happen. Tom is my favorite player of all time. I wouldn't be surprised if I wanted him to win the Superbowl more than him.

The NFL and ESPN will be unbearable now and I'm sure they'll show non stop clips of the 07' and 12' for the offseason and all next season. I don't think I can take it anymore. I've been a fan of the Pats since the 91'. They've been like crack to me. I don't know if I can do this anymore and I don't know if I should do this anymore. It seems to be more of a detriment to my life than helping it. I'm going to try and quit and focus on other more important things but I'm sure I'll be crawling back as usual like the pathetic Pats junky that I am :(

If in the rare off chance that I never do come back here I want to thank this site for being a great place to talk about football and to the posters here on the Pats board for being normal down to Earth genuinely good people.

And yes I have been drinking. :)
