The plane from yesterday's game (look closer)

Nice. I remember the F8U when I was in the Navy. Top line jet back then when it was first introduced. That model in the photo flew in 1974 as a photo recon platform.

Well hey, let me say thanks for serving!

My dad flew off the USS Han**** in Vietnam in the mid-60's. The F-8 was a great, great plane.

Personally, I'm partial to the F-14 myself. Hard to believe, but that jet was actually a Vietnam-era design. When they made Top Gun, to most people the F-14 seemed like a brand-new thing, but by then it was really a 20-year old model.

EDIT: Hahahaha the newsgroup editor actually put asterisks in instead of the rest of the ship's name. Ridiculous. Anyway the name of the ship is the same name as a superhero played by Will Smith in this movie:

The C5-A's are stationed out of Chicopee, Mass. at Westover Airforce Base.

If you go to their huge airshow every two years and see the planes up close, you'll see all sorts of Patriot logos all over the planes.

After all, they are called the "Patriot Wing" : 85-0009 tail | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

GO PATS AND USAF!!!!

Hit it right on the head...they've been flying over my house my entire life and it was a treat to see them at the game.

With the timeframe your dad flew the F8 in Nam, I might have been in when he was, and even had a hand in his advanced Jet Training. I served as an Electronics Technician in VT-24 back in 62 & 63. NAS Chase Field, Texas.
When an F8 landed there, it was a treat. Looked like roman candles on takeoff, gear up nose up and afterburners on ! :rocker:

The first one is the F-22 Raptor. The one my dad flew was the F-8 Crusader. Won the Navy Cross in Vietnam. (yes, I'm proud of my dad)

You have every right to be proud of your dad. He served his country bravely....great job and hats off.

I knew the first one was a F22 - didnt know the one your dad flew was an F8 Crusader. Wheres the flying Elvis logo on the side? LOL

There are still a few of us oldtimers around. We appreciate these SB wins abit more than a casual fan after following them since the Nickerson Field days and all those dreaded TV blackouts at Schaeffer Stadium ! :rocker:

On the topic of another plane, I sat on the tarmac at 6:30 am at Logan yesterday morning, and right next to my plane was a JetBlue plane that was all green and in huge letters read, "NY Jets."

No doubt, that plane was grounded for the next several months.

Yeah that must have been an awesome sight!

The F8 was a great jet. If you haven't seen it, be sure to watch "Thirteen Days". A very good film on the Cuban Missile Crisis.

There are some very good scenes of the F8.

IMDb - Thirteen Days (2000)

I'm going to have to check that movie out. The F-8 was a great jet, no question. But being a single-engine aircraft, there was always a risk of a flameout or engine damage and then -poof!- you're out of luck. My dad actually had that happen to him on a training mission when he was based at Miramar. Engine quit, he had to eject. Those old ejection seats used explosives so when he ejected he ended up breaking his back. Kind of a miraculous thing that he survived it; when they fished him out of the water, he went to the hospital (obviously) where he met a cute nurse...married that woman not too long after, and I ended up as their third child. Crazy story. I never wish ill on my father, but I'm kind of glad he broke his back or else I wouldn't be here!

Heh. Don't think that was around back then!

He was one of the Navy's first MiG killers and has a plaque at TOPGUN. I got to get a tour of that base this summer with my boys and we got a picture of my sons in front of my dad's plaque. VERY cool.

I also got a close up look at the ****pit (place where a pilot sits....ridiculous patsfans editor!!) of an F-18 Hornet. Now *that* is a serious machine.

Those C-5's are enormous planes. Saw one in person once. They hold 5 tanks or 6 helicopters!
I actually flew in one as a teenager. My father was an Air Force officer and we flew space-A to Europe. They have a passenger cabin hanging from the roof of the plane; there are always seats, just a question of whether they have space for luggage.

probably :D
