This is something BoR brought up a long time ago, that Buddy Ryan's belief was if his team lost it's because the players didn't execute, not ever because of bad game planning. And
New York Jets' Rex Ryan thinks of '85 Chicago Bears' loss after blowout - ESPN New York
THere's something wrong with this guy. My guess is he was bullied when he was younger, so he has this pathological need to let everyone know what a tough guy he is, how he's not afraid, how it's not a big deal, blah, blah, blah.
It's kind of fascinating.
He was not part of the 1985 Bears, he was in college.Rex Ryan made one little comment regarding the second most embarrassing loss he was every involved in and here we have people making a mountain out of a molehill. This is the type of stuff we give out about the mediots coming up with but here you guys are talking bull crap.
Lets go through what he said in that video.
1. He said they got outcoached and outplayed on Monday night.
2. Tackling was not good enough
3. Schematically they thought they had a great game plan, but they did execute and its not all on the players its on the coaches as well.
4. He said they stunk up the joint on defense, they stunk up the joint on offense and they were probably worse on coaching, it was a bad game
5. He says the second most embarrassing defeat in his time in the game was the Chicago Bears losing a Monday night game to the Miami Dolphins 1985. He said that teams target was the Superbowl and they went on to win it.
6. He says again that the loss to New England was embarrassing
7. He says you have to give credit to New England, they did everything right
8. He says he feels bad for the team, for the fans and for the NFL. He says the NFL deserved a better game than that. He says they weren't up to the task.
9. He says that they know what the playoffs are like. This isn't their first rodeo.
10. He says Tom Brady was on fire. Everything the Patriots did worked.
That was all in the first 8 minutes of the presser. He only mentioned the Bears defeat once in the whole presser, he didn't compare his team to the 1985 Bears either. He said absolutely nothing out of place.
While Ryan was around for the 85 Bears loss to Miami, the games aren't comparable.
First, Chicago actually scored. Not some mamby pamby FG, touchdowns.
Second, Chicago was undefeated and the media (ugh) has just begun to question if anyone could stay in a game with them. Pats, though leading the league in wins, weren't even necessarily picked to win the game by "the media"
Third, Jets aren't as bad as those Dolphins of 85. I know this bolsters his point, but that was a surprise win for the fins (because those fins were struggling). I don't think anyone was "surprised" the Pats could win that game. They may have been surprised at how convincingly they did, but you get my point.
Fourth, the Jets aren't going to win the Superbowl. They were exposed Monday night. Game film doesn't lie.
I think he knows his team and coaching has several weaknesses. He tries to hide them by bravado and bullying tactics. They definitely have some play makers who are unpredictable and that makes other teams' players and coaches react with rage and lose cool thereby making mistakes.
He tried the same trick on us;
1. First he insults PATS by saying every one think we are the number one and mocks us by adding "except me". It is a trick to enrage players and make them angry which might result in a bad play at a very moment such as Unsportsman like conduct.
2. He then tells he came to kick BB's *****. It is just to enrage BB to become very aggressive or make mistakes while game planning. This kind of trash talking between coaches is entirely unprofessional. This is not sense of humor. It is gutter level humor but the ESPN and trashy NY media/JETS fans buy into it. Even stupid WEEI hosts think it is funny.
3. He then tells we are insulting them by praising the JETS. It is purely to confuse the opponents. No matter what they say/don't say make them feel cornered.
4. He boasts about his "D", makes sarcastic remarks against our "D" giving back handed compliments that even though they are last in the standings of "D", I think they are OK kind of talk. This is just to add insult to injury, pride of young "D" hoping again the players will make a mistake on the field with with aggressiveness or anger resulting in PI or late hits or unsportsman like conduct.
5. Their players like LT were insulting and telling us how they will seek revenge and celebrate on our field. The players take their cues from the classless coach.
Many teams fall for it. The Ravens, Miami players were singled and insulted by Ryan and his classes players last year and this year and they had back and forth trash talking. Ravens laid the wood on Keller and did not get any penalties but teams/players act emotional and make mistakes.
Fortunately for us, BB/Brady combo realized his game plan and methodically demolished and destroyed them, humiliated them and broke their spirits. I was amazed at how professional they were and channeled all their anger/frustration on the game instead of their players. Even more amazing is how subdued/calm they were after the game. After a thorough beating, Brady says "our coach told "When you win say little and when you lose say less".
That is the difference between CLASS and CLASSLESSNESS of two organizations. We might be 200 miles apart from the other team. But we are worlds apart from that team when it comes to CLASS.
He was not part of the 1985 Bears, he was in college.
He sed the reference EXACTLY to compare his team to the 85 Bears in order to imply they will do what that team did.
He is incredibly overconcerned that the media and fans think highly of hm and his team and he will go to great lengths to create that opinion, as useless as it actally is.
Unbelievable - - just heard the clip of it on the WFAN Francesa Show.
Rexy is the gift that keeps on giving!
I LOVE this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the transcript. I won't go through it all but you can see the tone shift quickly. He starts out fine with the "we lost, we will watch tape and we will make corrections" but gets a little nutty with the "stick my chin out" part. Not a mention of the team in the entire answer.
When it came to coaching decisions (early challenge, FG attempt), he goes back to "we" even though those decisions were his alone. Challenge? We thought the spot was wrong. Regardless, it was a huge strategic error. FG? He made it in warmups. Again, deflecting the blame even though he should have reasonably concluded that the attempt would be low percentage and give the Pats a short field.
He never mentions poor preparation or an inadequate gameplan, even though it was painfully obvious that both were involved. In fact, he says they had the best practice and that preparation was great. We have the better team and I did my part up until gametime, but it still all went wrong. He does everything to absolve himself, leaving the players to hold the bag.
Miscommunication? I don't want to say that because it sounds like an excuse.
Lack of effort? I don't want to say that because it insults the opponent.
By saying these things, he is implying they are true but it sounds bad to say it out loud. He isn't explicitly scapegoating his team and but it doesn't take much effort to figure out that is exactly what he is doing. He has several opportunities to address failures in preparation and in-game decision making, but ducks each and every one of them. The "we got out-coached" line is a throwaway just to make it seem like isn't a complete butt hole.
Coaches can generally avoid responsibility for most turnovers and penalties. That wasn't the Jets problem on Monday. When your team gets destroyed well before the first turnover occurs, your team was inferior, unprepared or armed with a garbage gameplan. Since Ryan truly believes he has the best team in the NFL, it takes an amazing amount of gall not to take full responsibility for that abomination on Monday night.
