I want to be underrated. The Pat's biggest achievements were conceived as an underdog and not the Juggernaut.

NFL.com didnt even have us as a Top 10 team. Apparently our loss to Bmore in last years playoffs was the End of our Era (ie. End of our run as a top team in the league).

Steve Wyche had the Cowboys and Chargers as his Top 2 ranked teams LOL! NFLN needs to start firing some of these clowns.

It just makes the success this year feel that much better.

When will all these morons realize that as long as we have BB and TFB we are elite. Its really annoying how little credit they give the best coach in the NFL and the best QB(imo) in the NFL. Without those two, you could have the best player in every position and still always lose games.

I remember that end of an era article. Wasnt thyat a local mediot? Dont forget theres a lot of mediots around here that were picking the Pats to go 7-9, maybe 8-8. Even our own beloved Troy Brown is a little surprised that they're this good.

TBH I'm surprised we're this good also, but I still would've put us in the Top 10, easily.

Those are from January and February of this year ...

It's a valid question considering our rebuilding questions at that time.

Not that I agree with them, but in their defense:

If somebody said on August 1 that in three months the Pats would have the best record in the NFL, how many would have taken that person seriously? And how many would have berated him for being a delusional homer?

Take it one step further, after losing Bodden, Warren, Kaczur, McGowan and then Faulk to IR, along with no Mankins - and I'm not even considering trading Moss - did anybody honestly think the Pats would be 6-1 right now?

Yeah, I'd say top 10 as well but I'm also pleasantly surprised. Considering the teams records from last year that we have beat so far.

13-3 Chargers (now 3-5)
12-4 Vikings (now 2-5)
10-6 Bengals (now 2-5)
9-7 Ravens (now 5-2)
7-9 Miami (now 4-3)
6-10 Buffalo (now 0-7)

57-39 Combined last year.

But we've always had injuries and plugged no-name guys in and still had success.

Most writers pick the same teams to return to the playoffs. They'll choose one newcomer, and pick one team to fall by the wayside. Based primarily on the playoff game against the Ravens, the Pats became a popular pick of a team that would not return to the playoffs.

Arizona was another team that many felt would not return to the playoffs, and some thought the Bengals were another. Right now it looks like those that were doubting these two but not the Pats are absolute amazing Kreskin's.

I recall Florio trying to insist there would be six new playoff teams this year based on nothing about what teams were good or bad, but instead on the idea that history showed that there typically that much turnover in the NFL in playoff teams from one year to the next. I guess it looks right now that for those that subscribe to that theory, they had better bank on some other team to be one of the six who will have their season end January 2.

they just don't get it. they never have got it. i blame some of it on espn and some of it on that "dumb as $#@!" fantasy football. what a waste of time and money. espn has never quite grasped the fact that it's the players that win games. the coaches have a significant role but it's the players that win and espn has never given the pats players credit. they "surprised" everyone in '01, so it must of been bb. well, at some point the nyers have to just admit that the pats have talent. they'll credit the ownership, coaches, cheerleaders, ball boy. anything but the players. they'll look for any reason except talent. well, as cee lo would say, f you.

Football analysts are going to be wrong - just like everyone else. If they were able to always predict the best team or player then there would be no point in watching. Just enjoy the football conversation and highlights (good or bad about the Patriots), it's better than 99.9% of the rest of the **** on TV.

You also have to realize that everything they say is going to make some fan base angry. If they said the best team was the Patriots you'd probably have this exact same topic on the Jets / Steelers / Colts message board.

Without the team getting lucky that Spikes fell because of his 40 time and Hernandez fell because of his off-the-field issues, thus allowing the Patriots to maneuver to get them and still get the other players they drafted, this team would probably have been completely screwed this year, with regards to the "elite" argument.

I'm reasonably certain that the "experts" couldn't have been expected to see that the draft would fall in precisely that manner.

Thats one way of looking at it... Another is that no hernandez or spikes means we get 2 different players. Who's to say they wouldn't have contributed? or maybe we don't trade moss all if's and buts. i think the original point was fine that at least we were in the top 10 and not suddenly.... omg the dynasty is over

Yeah, I used to love the days when nobody picked the Pats to win and they just won . . . almost every time.

The early returns on this draft put it head and shoulders above any other draft in the dynasty era. None of us would have predicted that. It's a beautiful thing.

I would have ranked the Pats sixth or seventh, just on the strength of the coaching and QB play.

Today is a great day to be a Pats fan.

Yea why not, unlike NBA you win as a team in this league.

Gawd in august half the board thought the patriots would be horrific. The chicken littles were coming out of the wood work.

Who was out there, and available at the time of the pick, that was going to be a better run stuffing fit than Spikes? Who was out there, and available at the time of the pick, who was going to be a better receiver/TE choice than Hernandez? They dovetailed perfectly into areas that were huge weaknesses for the team.
