I love Bill Belichick, but this is his fault for hiring Pees in the first place. I watch a lot of college ball, god help me, and knew people in the MAC who were not enthusiastic about Pees as a coach there. I was at one game in which he berated Randy Edsall of UConn after a game for running up the score, and it wasn't even a bad run-up. It just seemed totally tawdry and beneath any coach. Obviously I can't question Belichick's faith in Pees because BB can judge him better than any of us can, but when I saw BB ignoring the offense in Super Bowl 2007 to school the defense, while waterboys had to run after BB to bring him back to the sidelines because the offense needed attention, I knew the coaching situation was in disarray.

I'd give O'Brien another year, partially because Hoyer looks competent meaning he's done a decent job with the QB's, and partially because it seems unfair after just one year.

It was BB's biggest mistake.We know how our O is in this season.
We need more experienced OC for TB and Moss and Welker.

Don't get your hopes up for that. No matter who the next DC is they will still be running BB's system

Your last sentence tells the story. If the Pats don't make some

significant player changes, a new defensive coordinator will not

make a difference.

DBs coach Joel Collier after the 2007 season. He is now Pioli's Assistant GM.

BB hired Pees because of NICK SERBIAN's recommendation. Pees WORKED for NICK as a DC before joining Pats in 04.

Perhaps, Nick will compensate BILL by being our DC?????

That's what I was thinking. Everyone seems to want to hear 'O'Brien FIRED' but if he's doing a decent enough job with the QBs (and I'm not sure there's anything significant to suggest otherwise), there's no real reason to fire him. May well be that we get news of a new OC appointment out of the blue, with BO'B relinquishing playcalling duties on the quiet.

I was never a big fan of Pees. I always felt the defense got a free pass in recent years while people unneccessarily trashed the offense under McDaniels. This defense just lost it's toughness, smarts, and agressiveness. I blame the personnel, but I also blame the coaching.

We have seen for several years that Belichick and not Pees was working with the defense on the sidelines making adjustments which never happened with Romeo. I think it is time to see if Matt Patricia can step up assuming he is winning the job.

It could be precisely that, an inability to communicate precisely with players, rather than calling the right schemes, etc.

Al Groh would not be any better. He's run Virginia into the ground over the past 2 years. Not a big fan of his, even though he is a Parcells guy.

BB has been known to promote from within the organziation rather than going outside of the organization, this would probably be a good indication that Pepper Johnson is the likely candidate especially since the Giants have recently been contacting him

Well, yes.

But even last season they were experimenting with him on the sidelines vs. in the box, with Patricia on the sidelines. That still wasn't working out. Sometimes you have to just cut your losses with a four-year work-in-progress.
