Massarotti is on WEEI

I wouldn't mind 4 more Mike Reiss'es to cover the rest of Boston sports teams.

Why wouldn't Tomase disclose a source that admittedly lied to him, especially when that disclosure would undeniably help his credibility? I don't think he'd sacrifice his own standing in public opinion to save face for Walsh.

I don't buy Walsh as the source now.

My guess is that there probably was never any source. He thought the rumor was true but couldn't prove it. Then he saw some guy from the NY Times was on the story and feared he was going to beat him to it. Maybe he thought " If I just pretend I have a source and get to print first I'll get the credit for breaking the story when a real reporter nails it down."

If someone had come up with proof that's what would have happened. It was a gamble but look at his position. He has a job at a major city newspaper, but it's at a paper that's been in financial trouble for decades. Getting credit for breaking a big story like the Rams walk thru tape might give him a shot at a job on a web site or at one of the surviving papers.

He's right too. Far from dying down after Goodell's statements, it's only gotten nastier. People are angrier now- some of them, like Mazzie, are downright crazed:D Mazz wrote an absolute rant- a hate-filled rant too.
Can you imagine a supposed professional spewing that kind of hate? Hate for the fans, too. I suddenly feel so empowered:D

I find it absolutely amazing that no one has written about the strangest part of the Walsh saga. I am referring to this unprecedented phenomenon in the media that has them writing stories as if Walsh "came through with the goods"!

First of all, I have never in my entire life witness the media openly HOPING that someone was guilty. They made it clear that they WANTED Walsh to have something. So much so that when it was discovered he had NOTHING, they still went forward and wrote articles calling for Belichik's resignation.

I would LOVE for just one media personality to attempt to explain this to us.

That is my feeling as well. He can't out a source that "lied" to him if they don't exist.

It was interesting the first hour...esp when Ordway and him tussled..apparently to Mazz...apologgies have to be the same..whether it was putting out a story that was totally untrue...or breaking a rule...or..??? Just ridiculous...even more so was whem he said that Tomase's sourc(s) may not have lied...HARD to understand that at all..NO tape and no one lied to him?? Mazz didn't make any sense..and then he made an accusation about EEI and the Pats..and I missed where that went...but he's a little contemptible piece of manure...FRANKLY I don't care about him one way or another..Ryan?? He's the past in my book...

Right now, per Tomase's explanation, he's just a bad reporter who just misunderstood an undisclosed source - an independend source OTHER than Walsh who was feeding him information. That at least, in his mind, maintains a shred of credibility as he asserts he got his information from an independent source.

If Walsh is his source then he's not only a bad reporter, he's the only reporter in the nation who was stupid and gullible enough to believe Walsh and run a story without any confirmation of the facts.

It's semantics but obviously its important to Tomase - but to believe that any reporter and editor would go with that story from a SECOND HAND source with no evidence is less belieivable than the notion they'd run with the story from a first hand source that lacked evidence.

I emailed Masarotti this post.. he won't respond, and will only continue his tunnel vision.. what a fool he joined the club..

Re: Masserotti is on WEEI

I wish Dale would leave too...IMO...I hate that dude's voice (not his opinions)

Do I understand you correctly, you want Arnold to leave because you hate his voice?

Masserroti's squeaky, strangled voice gives me migraine's and toothaches.

Here's the part I don't get. Nobody except the fans question the timing of the story. Now I agree, when there is a story the timing should not matter. But in this case, there was no new evidence and what Tomasse reported was something that had been out for years. So what changed suddenly to make him come forward with his article? Call me stupid or naive, but the timing becomes VERY suspicious to me because of the fact that this was an OLD piece of information and he and the rest of the media had plenty of time to make a decision about coming out with a story on it or not...unless that piece is part of the puzzle that is still missing and the Herald/Tomasse won't let it out.

Exactly-it's a reaction that's been over and above what most people, even non Pats fans- expected. Plus some of these rants are just wacko imo- the venom is ridiculous.
I'm not sure any reasonable person could truly explain this, but someone in the media-not a local pundit or even a sportswriter-but someone with a real voice, needs to step up in the name of journalism and smack these primadonnas,or at least medicate them. Peter Jennings is probably rolling over in his grave.

What started the whole Spygate saga? Remember? It was a game between the Patriots and the Jets, with the latter taking action to prevent the former from taping defensive signals along the sidelines at Giants Stadium.

Now, what motivated that action? I don't think it was a result of Eric Mangini's sense of justice, fair play, and sportsmanship. What was it all about? I think you'll find the history stretches back more than one season.

Okay, now fast forward. The Pats are on the cusp of a perfect season, capped by a Super Bowl. What better time to crank up the nasty rumor mill one last time.

Who was Tomase's source? If it wasn't Walsh, but it was somebody Tomase trusted, then could it have been a former member of New England's coaching staff?
