In response to this:

It's called running with a joke.

Interesting that you feel you're the one that needs to "humble" other Pats fans, although I suspect you're one in name only. You must have a very exalted opinion of yourself.

Of course, your perspective on the issue is one of total ignorance, informed by propaganda, embraced by a fool. But go on "humbling" the world. We all need you exalted wisdom.

Congratulations. you are now the president of the Tomase and Walsh fan Club.

Here's the thing that gets me. Ron Borges, a truly bad guy through and through, ran roughshod over the Patriots and their fans for more than two decades, and while that was certainly noted here, I didn't see any Globe links disappearing from the main page. I didn't see thread after thread after thread of this mickey mouse bull**** every time the guy's head popped out of the bunker. I didn't like that story any better than the rest of you, but this ridiculous boycott and all these threads make this site look like a bunch of petulant children who don't want to admit that they have decided that it was Tomase's fault that they didn't go 19-0. This bothers me most of all because I've been a member here for a few years, a lurker for many more, and I am a big fan of people like MoLewisRocks, and Seb over in the draft thread, and the poster (Unoriginal?) and his brilliant o-line analysis, and there is so much here to feel good about and enjoy here, yet increasingly, the brain surgeons like this thread starter are slowly taking over and dragging this site and this board into the gutter. I don't know Ian and I don't know what he was thinking when he removed those links from the front page, but Ian, its wrong, and only a few degrees of separation from organizing a book burning down at the library. I wish you would reconsider, or if not, at least consider pulling the 'Best Fans on Earth' from the masthead. Because there's no way we'll ever be 'Best Fans on Earth' when there's so many here who can barely put two coherant words together, and their senseless yammering drowns out the valuable contributions of your best posters, not to mention Chris and your other columnists.

And no, before the most ignorant of you brand me with the scarlet letter, I'm not in any way affiliated with the Herald or Tomase. I'm a Pats fan of 40 years, a member here, and I cannot believe what this site is coming to. I don't want to remove the bookmark and not return. I want the site here, so that I can hear the thoughts of smart, thoughtful people like Mo and Seb and Unoriginal without having to comb through yet another 'TomASSe' thread.

Do what I do, ignore the idiots and read the peoples' threads that you are interested in. That's one of the beautiful things of the ignore function (by the way, I'm fully aware that you may just lump me into this group but it is what it is).

Yes, I will humble the world. First the Pats fans, then dirty politicians, and finally puppy killers.

So I assume you know the truth about Spygate, or just everything you've learned from this site and should say to be considered a good Pats fan?

I'm not claiming that what we did was the worst possible thing to do as an NFL team or if it even made a difference in any game, but I'm also not going to blindly say something only because it's my team. I personally don't think it made a difference, but if someone presents a decent argument, I will listen. I'm not about to "boycott them" and say they are just out to get the Patriots.

Also, I'm not going to say every team in the NFL videotapes opponents because everyone here says it does. They may, or they may not. But my opinion is that some coaches might have done it and gotten away with it, but never did it on a consistent basis. Or from right across the field.

Some people here are just regurgitating comments from a very small number of ex-coaches and quoting Pats-friendly columnists and bloggers. Seriously, think about this. We're quoting an article from the 1960s around here, which is exactly the same NFL as it is now. So I remember this story about Fred Biletnikoff, the Raiders star receiver, chain smoking in the locker room after a playoff victory ...

I wouldn't normally click on yet another mind numbing "It's Tomase's Fault" thread; I did tonight because as a member I've been wanting to say something about this since it started.

I get what you're saying but there is a certain difficulty in placing dozens and dozens of the most egregious offenders on ignore. I suppose its possible from a technical perspective, but is that really the best way to sustain this sort of community? Everybody fragmented in little groups? That seems like a step backward. How am I'm supposed to learn about other people who I'm presently unaware of but who have good insight to offer?

I'd suggest an alternative - how about challenging people to raise their game a little?

can we move on for crying out loud.

talk about holding grudges, no one talked smack about this guy before and because he picked up on a story that fooled anyone who wasnt a pat fan your really gonna waste everyones time here with a tomase joke thread every day?

atleast with borges most of us has a legit dislike for the things he did.

i think its time to move on, i dont like this guy any more then most but it has everything to do with how much he annoys me, not that he wrote an article on something that never happened.

if were lucky they will ship him back to baseball, or better yet soccer or something.

You have a noble but misguided sentiment. This reporter and that paper, for purely selfish reasons, published an article for maximum damaging effect on the team we root for. The substance of the allegations has never been substantiated and was denied by the team's owner and HC as recently as last week. It initiated a wave of scurrilous attacks on the franchise we root for, even prompting the head of the senate judiciary committee to threaten our Qb with legal proceedings the night before and morning of the biggest game in franchise history. It opened a Pandora's Box of smears, invective and humiliation, tarnishing the reputations of hundreds of honest people, reputations that will carry an unjust stain forever.

This episode was an example of tabloid journalism at its worst. And yet a few misguided, noble hearts among us, overflowing with tender compassion, want to excuse the saboteurs who initiated this fiasco, saboteurs who have never apologized for their article, nor substantiated it.

Moreover these same shrinking violets are "shocked" and "disappointed" that fans of the team continue to carry a grudge against the journalistic thugs who perpetrated this crime.

When someone spits in your face, you have a moral obligation as a human being to get angry. Maybe the smearing of the reputations of hundreds of innocent people doesn't affect you as much as it does me. We can't all be alike, I suppose.

Okay.

I'm just saying that it only perpetuates the problem. You're not going to 'humble' anybody. You're just going to egg them on to more idiocy by doing that.

Since we seem to be in agreement as to my initial point - the degeneration of this site and this board, which we both seem to lament - I'll withdraw what was perhaps a hasty troll comment and suggest that we focus on seeoing what we can do to get THAT dialogue going in hopes that we can be a small part of turning it around.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Still not reading it. But that means he reads here? So how weird must that be, to see how many people hate you...

Im with you.....my boycott of anything Tomasse of the Boston Herald is still going strong!

Nope, we can't all be alike. We can all, however, get a grip. The overwrought hysteria of your post is as laughable as your characterization of me as a shrinking violet. To that, I say you don't know me at all. At. All.

Let's just say that on another board that I'm a member of, I am considered one of the most vitriolic (and unrepentant) critics of nearly every corner of the media there is. A reputation that I'm not always so proud of (its not always pleasing to be thought of simply as a foul mouthed crank) but one that's probably well deserved.

My original post had nothing to do with 'tender compassion' for Tomase or the Herald. It had everything to with a rooting interest in this site, and the desire to see this foolishness end.

You completely and utterly overstate in the most dramatic way possible the impact of this article. Judging by the well-publicized reaction of the fellow owners and executives after the recent presentation at the league meeting by the owner and the head coach, the league is whole and ready to move ahead together. Though I admit to not trusting Goodell's fussbudget soccer mom/PTA chair mentality as the game's guardian; I fear what happens to the next team that crosses the line. I don't think the punishment will be commensurate to the crime, and I think that's not a good deal for any of us.

I've had similar conversations with others who seem overly concerned with things like the perception of screaming head all sports networks and vermin like Gregg Easterbrook and others, not to mention the drive by trolls that infest boards like this as the Pats move through their schedule. One word for all of this: meaningless. I may be kind of pissed that I can't watch a Sunday football show in peace, but I have to ask myself; what do I think I'm missing if I don't watch? Do I really think Mike Ditka or Tom Jackson is going to tell me something I don't know?

As far as the allegedly grievous injury caused to the members of the Patriots organization - as far as I know, they haven't lost a dime as a result of Tomase's article. The trophys that represent those fairly and justly earned championships still stand, and they will forever. Players from coast to coast respect the organization and wouldn't hesitate for a moment to come here if the opportunity and the price is right (I particularly loved Lewis Sanders's reaction when his agent told him the Pats were interested in speaking with him). Same with coaches and executives and everone else who is needed to sustain what has been built here. The only people that matter - the reasonable ones - respect the Patriots for what they have accomplished and what they are capable of going forward. Just as well as they know Bill Belichick stands shoulder to shoulder with Lombardi.

The ones that don't - from the the mouthbreathing message board morons to the book selling senators - do not deserve even an instant of our time and our concern. Because they can do nothing to the Patriots or their fans - unless they let them.

well said. Keep those little fists balled with rage then. Maybe one day, if you hold your breath and stamp your feet hard enough, it will be as if the Patriots didn't lose the Super Bowl at all.

Exactly, before this story did we have any reason not to like Tomase. I know people preferred Breer and Reiss over him, but besides this story was there anything wrong with him.

I overstated nothing. Belichick said in an interview prior to this season that all a man has is his reputation in the game. When it's all over his reputation is what remains. You obviously feel that the public perception of a person is "meaningless". Strangely, the majority of human beings differ with you. We don't live in a cocoon. The media shapes our perceptions in sports, business politics. This fiasco has damaged the Patriots brand and the reputations of its players and coaches unjustifiably. Being a 40 year fan, maybe you have reached that philosophic age when the you prefer to retreat from the world, stop defending yourself and live in a coccoon. Enjoy your bubble.

I hope you include yourself among the "mouthbreathing message board morons".

Nope, I don't. By the way, I didn't include you in that either. It was a reference to the visitors who pollute this site whenever the Pats play the Chargers, or the Colts, or the Jets, or any other rival. But thanks for the hostility anyway.

One of the advantages of age (I'm 50 this summer) is the perspective it gives you. You may see that as a bubble; I see it as knowing what's important, and what isn't.

What's important to me is the thrill of seeing a team I'm loved since I was a child roll out that tunnel on Sunday, and stand toe to toe with anybody, no matter who they are. What's important is the great athleticism, skill, dedication, commitment and courage they've shown me time and time again over this last decade. What is important is the brilliant, and relentless coach, and his staff, who suggest through their work what we may all be capable of in ours. What is important is how all of this knits me together with other fans, such as the dozens and dozens of folks who have contacted me through my site, just to talk Pats and the NFL. For every guy that has dropped a turd on me in our comments section, there's twenty who share great thoughts in good spirit. I wouldn't know them if I fell over them, nor they me, but we're unified nonetheless. I think that's important too.

Lastly, if you or anyone else is allowing the increasingly standard-less media to shape your perception of anything, you're making a horrible mistake, and it's one you should reconsider immediately. You would be much better off using your own mind and your own resources (limitless, these days) to go beyond simple perception to strive for what's real. Perception is what makes the Paris Hiltons of the world. I think we've all had a little too much perception and not enough truth. If the majority of people favor perception over that, then I'm secure in swimming against that tide.

Another thing about age and experience is I know goddam well I'm not anywhere as alone as you think I am.

And the thing about the coach's reputation - Bill Belichick's legacy in this game will be measured by the whole body of his work, which is still very much imcomplete, and not by some poorly constructed and flimsy article published in a dying newspaper that has had to resort to giving their editions away for free on train platforms. That legacy will be measured years from now, after his time in the game is through.

For the time being, though, if you don't think that virtually every franchise in the league wouldn't jump through their ass to make him their head coach today, you're nuts.

I hope the man rots in hell!! Seriously. What he did was vindictive and selfish. Even Borges would've waited till a day or two after the game to print that story. He's a condescending jerk. Why do you think he was kicked off the Red Sox beat? Even Larry Lowlife hated his guts. And he was never a good writer either. At least Borges could write. If I never see his ugly mug again it'll make me very happy. How's that for foolishness? Huh?

It's pretty good. Well, not good, but it sure is foolish.

I don't think Ron would have waited a day. After all, it was Ron who published a vicious and personal attack on Belichick on the morning of Steve Belichick's funeral, using Steve's own words to disprage and diminish his son. On the grand scale of vindictiveness, that rates a bit higher than a fourth-rate, poorly sourced attention grab.
