OT: Dungy's view of integrity is situational...

I just have one question and I am not flaming you in anyway. Why are people still making a big deal out of this when other teams and coaches do this ever single year? Including the Pats against the Dolphins a few years ago, this is nothing new, it happens every year, The Jags did it this year and a few other teams but people only want to bring up the Colts. The Browns situation is totally not the Colts problem. Now if the Colts had played there starters and Manning suffered a season ending injury then everybody would be calling Dungy and the Colts the dumbest team in the league for playing starters. Just curious, not looking for a flame war or anything.

I for one wish we would have played our starters at least a little more to try and win the game.

b/c there is another thing that every team did, but only one team wad docked a 1st round draft pick and 750k for, thats why

"With Tennessee leading 16-10 and needing a victory to make the playoffs, the Titans had originally called a running play, Collins said. But the team changed to a kneeldown when he was told over his headset that the Colts wouldn't call a timeout, which would have possibly forced the Titans to punt with less than 20 seconds left in the game, Collins said."

"Apparently there was some communication between Jeff (Fisher) and Tony (Dungy)," Collins said on WFAN.

The thing is they wouldn't have punted, they would have kicked a FG to go up 9. Of course we could have blocked it and ran it back for a touchdown to..

I agree that the Colts resting their starters wasn't a big deal. The problem is, SpyGate shouldn't have been either. If SpyGate is the precendent, then this should be an outright scandal. The fact that his defenders keep resorting to the 'everyone does it' argument is particularly funny- not because it isn't true, but just because these are mostly the same people who were jumping down our throats when we wrote off SpyGate for the same reason.

Basically, the real point is that, whatever level of significance you choose to assign to it, this situation is about equivalent to SpyGate. In my opinion, that works out fine because neither case was a big deal. Considering that Dungy felt the need to interject his own sanctimonious opinion into SpyGate, though (it's a 'dark day' for the NFL), it certainly does set him up as a hypocrite of the highest order.

Again, and I know you have not had time to reply, yet - I just want to re emphasize the question- Name the team that did not make the playoffs because the Dolphins won?

I just don't really understand what that matters, The Colts were under no obligation IMO to go all out and risk injury to our players just because another team needed us to win so they could make the playoffs. It was the Browns fault they were in that position not the Colts. Lets say the Colts did go all out and play starters for along time, Manning gets sacked and breaks his leg and is out for the playoffs, this thread title would probably be like "How dumb were the Colts for playing the starters for so long in a meaningless game" Its just hard to win with the media or fans either way..

The Colts tanked that game. I have no problem with that.

You are missing the point though. The HC of the team you follow makes himself out to be the most moral person in America as he is full of integrity.

Can't Dungy just admit that he plays the same games as other NFL Coaches?

.

I think he does, so nobody on this forum would have a problem with this if Dungy didn't claim to be a saint?

I always kindof thought the rule was that you try to win each game.

I guess Dungy's not opposed to breaking the rules to give his team a competitive advantage.

They actually did try to win the game, its just that our backups suck goat balls..and I am serious..

What are you 12? Seriously why do you take such a lowbrow tactic with someone you have no interaction with?

Oh, seriously.

Lighten up, Concession Stand.

Finally got caught up, been gone for awhile. Overall not a bad thread, it didn't turn into a flaming war.

Yea, well what the hell do you expect when you're trolling around a Patriots Web Site??

No offense intended.

BTW -I was watching the Godfather on some movie channel - Good movie.

awesome movie, seen it not too long ago.

I don't hang here too much anymore, I just check in once in awhile, our new board really sucks now..

What do you think, they made the arrangement at Half-Time while getting a hot dog at the concession booth? Dude, you're not so smart, huh?

Oh, seriously.

Lighten up, Concession Stand.

People in glass houses dude. Don't call somebody stupid in the same post that you...

Is it too late to recommend that this thread get back on a slightly more civil course? Don't get me wrong, I like a good flamefest as much as the next guy, but on the rare occasion that a fan of another team comes here willing to have a reasonable, friendly conversation, I'm of the mindset that we ought to return the favor.

That's why I said "almost universally", dude (although I had another word I was going to use that started with "m" and ended with "n"--please try to read my original post before responding), because there ain't too many other folks outside of NE that dislike the guy. He's pretty quiet and straightforward when he isn't quiet. If you're talking about behavior like other coaches meaning "cheating" (which seems to be on alot of folks minds around here for some reason) I think you're barking up the wrong tree, and again, I'm not a Colts fan in saying this.....

like i said, meaningless drivel. i do know that if it was bb and crennel that conspired to "fix" a game and keep the colts out of the playoffs and put the browns in, all you "non" colts fans would have your panties in a bunch. two coaches discussing the outcome of the game, during that game isn't cheating? it goes right to the heart of the "integrity of the game" and the integrity of the coaches involved.
