I don't know what Arizona is looking for or How much $ Larry wants, obviously it couldn't be more than Randy's deal.

But how how long can Randy stay injury free and be Productive at an Elite Level?

Fitzgerald would be an upgrade from Stallworth, and a matchup nightmare with two huge outside recievers.

and with the Salary cap going up and up we could afford to spend big money on another WR, the colts don't seem to have a problem doing it, I say give BB less talent on D and let him and Capers "Coach em Up".

I think if we gave up our 1st and 2nd or 3rd for Fitzgerald and their 1st (16th overall) It would get it done.

Before you call me a dreamer or Crazy, just remember last March, When I said the Pats should get Randy, I got the Same reaction from 90% of you.

If Moss had left, maybe. As is ? Nope.

Salary cap..... next question!

In 7 years, he'll be the current age of Moss.

Certainly age wouldn’t be an issue and you'd be set for almost a decade...

That's way to much though. We'll need those 2nd/3rd round picks.

Hopefully the Pats PR department doesn't use this thread to judge our intelligence. :D

WR is hardly an area in need right now to the Pats. I'd focus elsewhere.

Once we've taken care of every other position on the team and we have lots of money left.

Then, probably not.

Would you want the Pats to trade away the people who keep starting these pie-in-the-sky trade threads for a couple of fans from other franchises?

Yes, we need the unglamorous fans in the trenches.

Wow, people were so worried we would'nt sign Moss.
Now that he is signed, he's not enough. We now need Fitzgerald or Ocho-Cinco.
Now that we need a CB and LB help, we're going to give up draft picks for another reciever.

my answer as well

Sure it's tempting to line him opposite Randy, w/ Welker in the slot, no less, but we also need to allocate some dollars to the lines and to the D...

And Tight End wasn't a need when we Drafted Watson.

Collecting talented football players is always a need.

Maybe you didn't tune in last season, but when you have a wealth of talent in one area, it is imposible to defend. I don't think Gaffney oppisite Moss would Scare many D-Cordinators.

Fitzgerald on the other hand...

For the 2008 NFL Season, drafting defensive players is a definite need for the New England Patriots.

The D-Line and O-Line are some of the best players in the League. So where does that Money need to go?

Anyways in 2011 there might not be a cap anyways, and with the ticket prices there charging, they better spend BIG if that happens.

Fitzgerald is better than Moss.

But you can't have both. Especially if you want to have a defense. The answer is no, as much as I love Fitzgerald.

you said it "Drafting"

The Draft is a crapshoot, and yes the pats have done well, but they haven't really drafted any LB's and that is what we need, and CB's take awhile to develop, esp. in our Defense.

I'll Take a proven player over potential anyday of the week, esp. when you have so much gaurenteed money going into first round picks.

Dillon, Moss, Ted Washington, Welker, all traded for, all proven NFL players.
No complaints here.

If I recall correctly, going into the '04 draft the team's two primary needs were at NT and RB. Obviously, Wilfork fell and was drafted by the Pats with the first pick and the Pats were also in negotiations with regard to a trade for Corey Dillon and had been for a couple days prior to the draft. And though you're right in that Watson wasn't a needs pick, there were also no major holes on the roster unlike the current holes that need addressing at the CB spot and the ILB spot. Marquise Hill from the same draft was also not a needs pick.

Who are the Patriots going to cut in order to make room for Fitzgerald and the money he will want? Rodney Harrison? Kevin Faulk? Mike Vrabel?

This is the NFL, where there is a salary cap; it's not the office fantasy football league where the only players on your team are quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers.

Sign Fitzgerald for Jabar Gaffney's contract and I'm all for it.
Sign Fitzgerald for what the Eagles offered Moss and I say no way.

The Patriots have been successful year after year by spreading money across all positions and obtaining quality depth. Teams like the Cardinals and Lions that spend a lot of money on one or two positions and are forced to go cheap on both lines and defense and overall depth have not been successful.

Why would Pats fans want to get away from a successful formula?
