Will Seymour ever be 100% again?

What would then be the '09 cap hit if Seymour is released after the '08 season?
$6,000,000. If Seymour is on the Patriots roster on 6/2/2008, he will count at least $6,000,000 against the 2009 cap, no matter what.

Would there also be an '09 cap savings, or are those figures mutually exclusive?

If Seymour is released after the 2008 season, the Patriots could save close to $3.8 million (3,685,000 salary and $106,720 offseason workout bonus money).

Does that mean then that the dead money would equal about $2.2M? If that's true, then would the NEP have to find a replacement DE willing to play for no more than $3.7M in 2009 in order for releasing Seymour after next season to be worthwhile?

Man, where is the love? Find a better DE for 3.7 mill/yr? hahah.

Man oh man, some of you people have such short memories......

Richard Seymour, when healthy, is a BEAST. He always has two blockers on him and usually still makes plays. He always carries out his asignments, hurt or healthy.

He got injured. He did not recover as hoped. He sucked it up as best he coudl and played hurt all of last year after not coming around in the offseason as he had expected.

Hopefully, he comes back 100% and has a long run at or near 100% - then, the old dominating RS will be back.

We need this guy.......if you want a shut down defense again, there is no better individual to start with then Richard Seymour.

Amen. I really don't get why people dog on him. Now people are calling him lazy and insinuating that he's lost his desire now that he has a big contract, even though the declining performance is due to his playing through an injury. We need Seymour, end of story.

No, the dead money would be $6,000,000. Seymour's 2009 cap hit as of now is $ 9,791,720
$6,000,000 prorated signing bonus amortization
$3,685,000 salary
$106,720 offseason workout bonus money.

Thanks, Miguel. Again.

Ouch. A $9.8M hit in '09 for this guy? I don't understand why ownership/FO caved in during his walkout. That set a bad precedent.

While he's laughing all the way to the bank, Richard must be thanking Kraft at the same time he's cursing Belichick.

Here is a reasonable poster , giving some valid critasism to big Sey , and out come all the homers putting words in his mouth and throwing hissy fits

Shouldent you be jumping all over posters who dare question a patriots player!!!!

Anyone who says we should trade bug Sey is gonig overboard. Anyone who jumps all over a poster for bringing up the FACT that Sey has done nothing since he signed for the big bucks is in denial.

If Seymour doesn't have a big year next season, then they should consider a drastic cut in his salary, or release him (provided it makes sense cap-wise).

Anyone who claims that it's a "FACT that Sey has done nothing since he signed for the big bucks" is either lying or doesn't actually know what a 'fact' is.

Tell us the great things Sey has done to live up to that huge contract he is getting!!??? The facts are that Sey has been far from the dominant player he was before he signed that big deal.

Accept it and move on.

How about Justin Tuck; NYG. (although technically I think he is a DT); but man did he tear us up.

His 2008 base salary from his rookie deal will remain at $520,000. The five-year extension starts in the 2009 season, which means he's signed through 2013. All of this has been reported already; just wanted to toss in a refresher.

*In 2009, Tuck's base salary will be $1 mil. It then jumps to $1.6 mil (2010) and $3.45 mil (2011), dips to $3.2 mil (2012) and finally closes out at $4 mil in 2013.

*The contract includes a $9 mil signing bonus. As reported before, there is $16 mil in guaranteed money, which means the signing bonus and probably some of his base salary and other bonuses.

*Speaking of other bonuses, Tuck gets a whopping $5 mil roster bonus in 2009 on the 15th day of the league year. In 2010, he gets a $1.75 mil roster bonus.
