OT: Chad Johnson Wants To Be A Patriot?

the thought (day dreaming) of a recieving corps of Moss, Johnson and Welker makes me smile:D
While I tend to think that MoLewisrocks is correct when he says that Belichick loves Chad as long as he's on someone else's team, you just never know. This time last year most of us didn't think he'd want Moss either. I think this would be overkill, even Stallworth with Moss and Welker is overkill and I like Johnson more than Stallworth, but, again, I'll never put anything past Belichick - other than replacing Brady; that's hot happening :)

I would just love to see that combo with Brady. :D
What a season of enjoyment that would be as long as Johnson could really be
team first guy.
I doubt it will ever happen. :(

How about a Chad for Chad trade plus a few extra goodies for Cincy?
Jackson is not happy here Johnson not happy there so ....

Belichick likes this guy, I was a huge fan of his in the draft (he was my favorite WR in the draft that year, and one of the guys I thought the Pats might actually draft - Chad Jackson ended up being the guy that, years later, actually fulfilled my desire to see one of my draft guys go to the Pats), and he'd be an excellent fit here. Unfortunately, it won't happen, this year at least, because the Bengals wouldn't give him up for anything short of a 1st or a package of multiple high picks, and WR just isn't a need for the Pats. Before you dismiss him as too selfish or a bad character, the guy wants to win in a bad way, and he'd fall into line here, just like Randy has. No one crosses Belichick and has their football career survive. (No, Deion, I wasn't talking about you... much.)

Agreed. He's not going anywhere for as cheap as Moss did.

I swear to God, people can't read. My post, which you quoted, contains the words "I actually like him."

Boggles the mind.

It wasn't completely aimed at you, but at the posters who fallowed. Also, while you said "I actually like him", you still made it sound like he's a head case, and wouldn't be able to fit in. Basically, you qualified your insult.

I'd love to see the Pats add Johnson - can you imagine having to defend Moss, Johnson, Welker, Watson and Maroney - but no way do the Bengals trade Johnson to the Pats.

I said he never shuts up, which is true. What followed was clearly a joke.

As much as Chad is a talented receiver, his recent attitude has soured me on him. Supposedly BB is fond of him, so who knows? Nobody thought Moss would land here either.

Also from that article:

Good news! :)

Not shutting up is the only way out of Cinci for wasted talent, ala Dillon and Carl Pickins.

Belichick loves Chad Johnson. Talks him up whenever we play the Bengals. If the price were right BB would take Chad in a second. Trust me Chad Johnson would tone it down big time in Foxborough.

Dillon wasn't exactly Mr. Content in Cincy up until he was traded, either. He talks alot and does crazy celebrations, but he's never been a problem with the law. If TO can be a good teammate in Dallas, Ocho can be a good teammate in New England. Winning, as we've seen with Moss, does wonders for attitude.

Do Randy and Chad get along? I heard Chad interviewed on WFAN yesterday, and they asked him whether he keeps in touch with the other elite WRs during the season. He said he does, says he talks to Steve Smith and other guys but said "I don't think I have the right number for Randy, I think I got the wrong number." Implying that he's tried to talk to Randy but hasn't gotten a response.

So I don't know, maybe the two don't much like each other.

Chad Johnson would be unbelievable in a Pats uniform.

While the Pats obviously don't need Chad it would play hell with any defense. Teams could not afford to consistently double him AND Moss. Brady would break his own touchdown record.

He would suck as a Pat. Selfish, very high salary.

The way the cap works is that money spent on one player can't be spent on another. So who gets cut or not signed to make room for this prima donna?

Belichick likes him? Maybe he just likes his antics GIVEN THAT HE'S NOT ON THE PATS. Maybe it wouldn't be as much fun if he were a distraction here. Speculation on my part, but it's speculation to imply otherwise too.

Coach B will talk up the water boy on the opposing team he is about to play! Come on, after all the Coach B press conferences u have seen or heard, who has he actually said publicly bad abou? Answer = none. So that means sh*t what he says in public about Chad.

MY take on Chad: overrated as being depicted as a great / top 5 receiver. He is a good to sometimes very good receiver but nothing more:
* Any crucial games that he was able to 'take over'? Some will say the Bungles are to blame (team has stunk) but they still had an explosive offense as shown aginst inferior teams but mostly sh*tting the bed against really good defenses.
* More concerned about his celebrations & touches..
* Rather deflect the blame / chew out publicly (e.g. the poster who gave the example of the PATS game where Chad chewed out Palmer when it was most likely him screwing up the route / audible)..
* Are his hands in the top 5 of receivers? (Because that is the type of $$ he is looking for)
I say a great receiver has it all (almost): Larry Fitzgerald = size / speed / hands / great work ethic (starting with Dennis Green's ballboy stories) & on a sh*tty team without complaint. also Steve Smith (Carolina) / BRaylon Edwards (Cle)...
I think Coach B would rather spend top $$ on a couple of very good players than a Chad overrated Johnson.....like Randy Moss & <insert CornerBack / LB here>

Of course Chad wants to play for the Patriots. He wants to play for Miami too. And a host of other teams. He even wants to play for the Bengals. Chad wants to play for whatever team is willing to tear up his current contract and make him the highest paid WR in the NFL.

The guy started a fight with his coaches at halftime of a playoff game because he wasn't getting his touches. The Bengals offense had been pretty dominant in the first half scoring on long drives on each of the first 3 times they had the ball and held a 17-14 lead at the half. All Ocho Cinco cared about was he didn't have enough catches and didn't get to do some stupid dance he probably spent a week preparing. The Bengals got steamrolled in the second half and several players had pointed to it as a turning point to a local radio station before Marvin Lewis threatened to cut anyone else who spoke of it.

The exact equivalent comparison is Randy Moss behavior in the playoffs. I don't recall hearing that he took a swing at McDaniels or Scar or BB at halftime either of the last 2 weeks. Do you?

Today Chad was on some Charlotte station saying he wanted to play with Steve Smith.

This is just Chad trying to drum up as much interest in him as possible to get out of Cincy.

I wouldn't want him on the team. If he were on the team and the Pats kept on winning, the Pats will be consolidated when the other 31 teams petition the NFL to break up the monopoly.

Did you read the article? I'm neither pro or anti signing him but you gotta at least get the facts right.

the ball competition would defiantly be a problem with CJ. Furthermore, this will not be a Moss deal where we get CJ for chump change, it will cost a decent draft pick, one which the patriots cannot afford to lose in my opinion.

I can see it now, some reporter asks BB in a press conference "Coach, would you want Chad Johnson on your football team?"

BB: "Of course, why not? he's a good football player"

end of story.
