Some of us have brought this up in the past, but this is the first time Chad ever entertained the idea:

The Patriots made an unexpected splash trading for Randy Moss last April. Might Bengals receiver Chad Johnson be next? The thought was tantalizing to Johnson yesterday at Super Bowl XLII. "It would be fun; I would love to play there," he said. "But right now, I'm in Cincinnati. That's where I am." Johnson, one of the NFL's top pass catchers, doesn't seem happy about that. As part of his role as a pitchman for Degree, the personable and outspoken Johnson conducted several interviews at Super Bowl media headquarters yesterday, and it wasn't difficult to detect the frustration he's experiencing with the Bengals. He was passively campaigning for a trade. While Johnson has expressed interest in playing for other clubs, this is believed to be the first time he's openly conveyed his desire to land in New England.

When approached by a Boston reporter, Johnson said: "I'm going to be playing for your team next year." When the reporter laughed, Johnson put his hands together as if he were praying and looked to the heavens.

He is a great talent, but a bit of a nut job. I dont know if even BB can shut this guy up. I saw a clip on NFLN with him asking Bill Parcells to give him a call. It seems he'd take any team over Cinci right now.

i'd rather have gaffney or anyone else we already have than him.

Johnson wants to be anything besides a Bengal.

The way BB has spoke about him in the past leaves me to believe that BB knows him enough and if BB were to go after him than that should be enough insurance for yuo that he would be able to fit in here.

So as always in BB we trust....and here is hoping BB can go get him, and keep Randy and Asante.....

Dude, it's Chad Johnson. I actually like him, but he never shuts up. Tomorrow he could say he wants to be the starting wideout for an NFL expansion team in Narnia and it wouldn't surprise me.

What has Chad Johnson actually ever done to make some of you guys dislike him so much? He celebrates to much?

Yea, the guy has a big personality, but he's a very hard worker who spends a ton of extra time watching film and studying to get better. He's always been able to keep himself clean throughout all these years, even while playing for a team that features more "turds" than any other in the league.

If I was him I'd want out too.

If BB and SP say he's Patriots material, he's Patriot material. I doubted them on Corey Dillon, then I doubted them with Randy Moss. I was wrong on both accounts, they were right. If Chad IS a nut job and can't possibly fall in line, they won't even talk to him. If the brain-trust of the Pats deem him of the right mental make-up, I'm done questioning them.

Belichick loves this guy, and he even said he wished he was playing for NE.

As much as Chad is a talented receiver, his recent attitude has soured me on him. Supposedly BB is fond of him, so who knows? Nobody thought Moss would land here either.

Also from that article:

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will not pursue the Redskins head coaching vacancy, a league source said here. McDaniels has committed to the Patriots for 2008.

Good news! :)

I think he'd behave on the Patriots. His behavior with the Bengals is like that of a child craving attention. I think the possibility of a ring would be a happy substitute for that. Would the Pats bring him in? Who knows, after last year.

Bill thinks he's cute and fun when he's someone else's problem. Even Bill and a veteran locker room couldn't shut this clown up. Tremendous talent when everything is going his way. Pain in the ass to flat out cancer when it's not. The Bengals are once again a disaster, and he is part of the problem, not a victim of it.

PS we had a thread about him yesterday too.

And we are only about the 10th team he's hinted he'd love to play for this week, and the week isn't over yet. He and Rosenhaus are in AZ to do the show me the money tour. He's trying to shoot his way out of town with a toothy smile so people won't think he's a bad guy...LOL

I don't mind celebrations, in fact, I like them. The game's about entertainment, and he's an entertainer.

For me, the issue is seeing him chew out Palmer in the game we played against them this season. Palmer's no scrub, if Johnson can't respect him, how can we guarantee he won't disrespect Brady?

I guess I have my doubts that Johnson can come in, just as Moss has, and be completely team first. I for one never had any doubts about Moss' attitude or ability to be a team-oriented guy, lumping Moss in that category was the lazy work of the media. Johnson, I don't know how he'd fit.

Agreed. Johnson, like Moss, is a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for. Yeah, he clowns around on the field, but is that really all that big of a deal if he does his job exceptionally well? It's not like he's off getting arrested every other month.

I doubt he'll end up here unless Moss bolts, which I don't see happening.

The team's #1 priority in the offseason is going to be the linebackers and secondary. They're pretty well set everywhere else.

Belichick likes this guy, I was a huge fan of his in the draft (he was my favorite WR in the draft that year, and one of the guys I thought the Pats might actually draft - Chad Jackson ended up being the guy that, years later, actually fulfilled my desire to see one of my draft guys go to the Pats), and he'd be an excellent fit here. Unfortunately, it won't happen, this year at least, because the Bengals wouldn't give him up for anything short of a 1st or a package of multiple high picks, and WR just isn't a need for the Pats. Before you dismiss him as too selfish or a bad character, the guy wants to win in a bad way, and he'd fall into line here, just like Randy has. No one crosses Belichick and has their football career survive. (No, Deion, I wasn't talking about you... much.)

the thought (day dreaming) of a recieving corps of Moss, Johnson and Welker makes me smile:D

I swear to God, people can't read. My post, which you quoted, contains the words "I actually like him."

Boggles the mind.

The future HOF thing did it for me. He's all about himself i don't care how good he is. If we lose what we have i would take a discounted chance. I'd still rather have Uno Cero.
