Montana dissing TFB ….. again.

Seems he changes his opinion based on what day it is. Marino was extraordinary but I don’t take the “Durr this guy has/had more physical tools than TB12 so he’s a better QB” arguments.

Maybe but it will be difficult. If Mahomes has a long career in which he stays healthy he has a shot at getting close-ish. But I don’t see another 7-Super Bowl QB in my lifetime.
He’d have to play awhile. Mahomes will probably beat the passing yards and tds if he sticks around another 10-13 years. They added a 17th game and assuredly a 18th will be there in the near future as well. Doubtful about the 7 rings, BB and Brady were the perfect storm for the 6 they got and Brady turned in one more just because he could, against none other than Mahomes. Denies him in 2018 and then does it again with the Bucs for good measure or else Mahomes would have 4 right now. Goes without saying “If you want something done right, Do it yourself.”

Joe is lucky the ring difference to Brady is 3. I give Joe credit for the GW drive against Cincy but let’s be honest Cincy wins that game if the DB doesn’t drop that Montana pass in the endzone earlier. And Brady was unlucky with Asante dropping his. Plus the failure on defense in the Eagles SB. Could very well have been 9-3 in favor of Tom.

Not the best qb...but the guy had a powerful arm and could throw the deep ball and outs like no one else who ever played the game. He was a ****y son of a b, that's for sure.
Marino is the purest passer of all time. Unfortunately for him there's more to being a qb. Montana can't give brady his due because brady was in the same mold, same style, a better version. The 2.0 they both had the it factor. Imagine how bad Montana would be if the niners drafted brady instead of Giovanni carmazzi

Marino didn’t win anything because he would never get over the fact he couldn’t whip it at a receiver who was five yards away from him and then be surprised/angry when the guy dropped it.

Literally went on for the better part of a decade and it was irritating to see anytime he was on television (unless it was against the Patriots), it was ridiculous. Guy had an arm and threw well downfield but didn’t have the intricacies you need in the short game the way Brady or Montana did. Nor did he do the little things, which is too bad because he was a talented guy.
MArino was 8-10 in playoffs and 8 of his losses were by more than a TD. He won more than one playoff game in a year ONCE in his career, his rookie year....
Dan went 17-13 against us, throwing 42 TD's & 46 picks.

Dan Fouts went 0-5 against us, throwing 6 TD's & 7 picks.

Peyton Manning went 6-13 against us, throwing 43 TD's & 26 picks, 3-2 playoffs 6/6.

Prolific passing yardage QB's are often deficient in all the other crucial, arguably more important areas.

@Actual Pats Fan excellent post, but why is there a picture of Sammy Baugh there?

In all time QB rankings (including pre SB era) had him ranked in the 12-16 range. But I also had to adjust the entire system because originally he was coming in so much lower. I added a peak rating of total TD passes in a season compared to league average as a factor in the total rating and it bumped him up and also did a good job adjusting everything. I do think the 48 TD season in 84 is very relevant, and really for any QB their highest level of production should count for quite a bit.
Agree on 84 but as your analysis called out, there were so many other areas lacking which push him down the list

What Brady did by winning 7 chips is make Montana's four look pedestrian so now Joe can come out and say Marino was the BOAT because whether you have zero rings or 4, none of it comes close to 7.
100%.... and I'm old enough to remember people thinking nobody could EVER get one for the thumb... it's just too much to ask of one man.
