Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

o
great to hear MonTy and Harris are back at practice.
But, horrible time for Parker to be missing. One of the biggest potential landmines is if Parker and/or JuJu can even stay healthy.
The recent doubt about JuJu's knee is concerning considering he's been invisible in all of his reps in preseason games.

16 snaps in preseason games “all of his snaps”

So none of NE’s guys claimed on waivers, and no waiver claims successful by NE. Now it comes down to which players are placed on IR (from the tweets here, sounds like Thornton and Reiff are strong possibilities). Then, who promotes back to the 53. Probably Munson, for one. The other spot may be held for a veteran QB2 acquisition if they wish to make one.

We'll know in 45 minutes WHO is headed to the IR.

Cunningham and Zappe cleared waivers, I see. I thought somebody would snag Malik, but thankfully I was wrong. Now they can allow his development to advance at its best pace. The receiver experiment appears to have been a bust, so his way forward is as a qb. Running the scout team will provide a look at what he can do and will help the starters to prepare, and he'll get a steady diet of NFL coaching to some degree. Glad I was wrong about his getting back to us. Nice to see some good news.

As for Zappe, I wonder if they'll keep him or drop him in favor of some oldster w/ more NFL experience. It depends on how they see his upside. If he can't in time adapt to a complex NFL offense, or if Malik can in time pass him by as #1 backup, as well as being a change-of-pace option, out he goes, I suppose. As of now, based at least on this preseason, he's a pretty mediocre backup, and this seems like the sort of year the Pats' backup qb is likely to get some work, so that's a little worrisome.

Now hopefully some useful players will emerge from the annual NFL swap meet and rummage sale. We seem to do better with that than we do with the draft: more known quantities, I suppose. Maybe we can score a full-size TE, or go for an even dozen offensive linemen (Is the Flying Wedge play still legal?) .

Wouldn’t
4. having him on your practice squad practicing with the team
prior to being needed
Be the best option?
Particularly when you consider that the punter he'd be replacing in an emergency is also the holder for field goals.

Cunningham was working with the WRs today.

TE not so much as one of the 344 OLs they have can play it but not having a RB or two on the 53 is.

I do anticipate the team adding at least one to the 53.

Thats kinda why the Montgomery cut was a bit surprising. He might be hurt and intend on bringing him back when healthy...?
I don't understand why you would think Montgomery has earned a spot on the 53. I'd sooner give JJ the spot if you didn't like someone out there better.

JJ can’t pick up blitzes (well) or contribute on special teams coverage. Monty can.

I am not an expert, I am not a scout but just seeing his frame, I questioned how he was going to handle hits to his small and frail looking frame. Now he is getting hurt laying out for throws. My question to those that selected him, what were they thinking? What did they think was going to happen seriously.

So out of all the offensive players drafted last year one will be on the active roster week 1. Ripple effect from Bill's little Patricia experiment?
