Did Maroney get benched last night?

Re: Maroney got benched last night

I have been critical of Maroney of late about his dancing and stutter stepping especially against Indy, but last night wasn't his fault. On several runs, the defenders hit him immediately after the handoff in the backfield before he could even stutter step or dance. That isn't Maroney's fault. I felt our run blocking was horrible early. The only time the Bills got decent penetration was on the Pats running plays early.

As the game wore on, the blocking got better (not perfect). Unfortunately, Maroney was already out of the game.

Thank you for the voice of reason..

EDIT: and can we please leave the namecalling (stupid, idiot etc.) out of here? We can discuss this like intelligent adults, you know.

What???? NO!!!! No way, pal....who the hell are you anyway, Caesar Augustus??? If I tell you the lions have a way better chance than the Christians, who are you to tell me to shut up??? Just leave me alone and let me sit here and obsess....jeez....dyam spoilsport

LOL! This thread could use some humor. I think a few of the posters are about to have strokes....

Re: Maroney got benched last night

We were up 35-7 at half.
Faulk was injured. It seems obvious to me that BB and McDaniels wanted to get Evans and Eckel on the field to see what he has if Faulk is out for long.
I dont know how we can conclude anything from not using our #1 RB who has had some injuries this season when the game is out of hand.

Another voice of reason. Oh wait. Better be careful. Danny88 might call you a Maroney ball washer.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

I'm still waiting for him to break a big one, with little success

That could change the message board as we know it. Are we ready to make such a giant leap into the unknown?

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Some critics of his running style believe he tap dances too much. Maroney shrugs off the commentary.

“I didn’t try to hide my running style. (The Patriots) knew my running style before they drafted me,” he said. “They drafted me because of my running style and what I was able to do on the collegiate level. I feel I shouldn’t have to change because one person feels like I dance too much, or one person feels like I should do this more. That ain’t what got me here. I feel like I’m going to continue to do what got me here.”

Seems pretty reasonable to me. Where do you see anything against the team there? Looks like he's talking about mindless critics, of which there are many.

That's right, I am calling this kid a BUST. Flat out. Would he be a BUST if he was a 4th or 5th rd pick? No. However, how can anyone say this kid is NOT a BUST for his performance after 22 games as the #21 pick in the entire draft? In case people have forgotten, this kid is a RUNNING BACK. Without question, running back is by far the easiest position to come into this league and make an impact. Not only does Maroney fail to make an IMPACT in ANY GAME whatsoever, but what does this guy do that screams "I have the potential to be a difference maker"? Let's cut the BS. Just because the Pats may go down as the greatest team ever doesn't mean fans like me can't call out Maroney. I said it and I stand by it. The kid is a BUST.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

But, don't let the facts get in the way of your stupid hatred of Maroney.

There's something wrong with Maroney if you ask me. When I think of pounding the ball I don't think Maroney thoughts. I think about putting somebody in there that can hit the hole going down hill.

I'm quite sure that Sammy Morris runs in a manner that is more consistent with the way the OL works on this team.

So Drew Bledoe shouldn't have worked on his footwork because he was drafted #1? Please.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Damn, you really need to learn how to read. I said you were PROBABLY one of the people claiming that Warren and the others were a bust. And, while you've not said the word BUST, you damn well imply it.

Actually, SFBs, I wasn't saying that the Pats would never draft Meriweather. But I wouldn't expect you to know wtf you are talking about. You have proven, to this point, you don't.

BTW, Maroney's balls aren't anywhere near my mouth. You, on the other hand, need to take the pole out of your arse because its interfering with your brain functions.

You did say the pats would never draft Meriweather. Called him a hood and a fellon. Go get the posts. Claimed he was a thug, and the pats would never draft him. I never called Warren or maroney a bust, fool. You know nothing.

Lastly you said in a different reply my original post about Maroney was filled with opionion not fact. Oh really all these are opinions huh?

This is major BS on your part. This thread isn't based on facts. Its based on your opinion of the facts. Ones that you have purposely distorted to try and build up your straw argument.

Now lets look at ALL my "opinions" I posted

Had major surgery

Did nothing in the playoffs

Missed a bunch of time due to injury

Has come out of several games early with injury. That or he was benched.

Scored one td over 10 games on one of the best (if not the best) offensive team of all time

Has failed to put together a big game

Has two receptions

Has done nothing in the red zone

Has yet to break it the secondary and take one to the house

Has been highly ineffective most of the time

Has had constant durability issues

Sit down idiot. You talk down to people because you think you know everthing. You dont.

Yeah, What ^He said... This reminds of 2001 when there was the Bledsoe / Brady debate.. A touchy subject that no one really wanted to go there.. A taboo of sorts.. Face it people, he is what he is.. period...

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Does anybody remember the one play where Maroney got thrown to the turf at the line of scrimmage (after a dance and redirection) while all the big guys were standing around on their feet, all in a bunch, nowhere near the play?

At first I shouted, "Why didn't you guys block" but then I realized that they were all looking at each other and looking around like, "How the hell did he get over THERE? He's supposed be over HERE."

And I'm thinking, "Uh, oh ......"

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Is it asking too much for Maroney to break one, just one, running play for longer than 20 yards this season? Or am I simply asking too much for a guy drafted #21 in the draft who suppossedly was a threat from anywhere on the field? I guess we just don't have good run blockers on the o-line right? Folks, we have a running back that has a long of 19 yards this season and a career long of 41 yards thru 22 career games!!! Yet, we can't call this guy out?

Re: Maroney got benched last night

i don't claim to know exactly what's going on, but i know that i don't buy the argument that BB benched him because he didn't want him to get hurt. the guy needs reps and gametime if he's going to be a leading rusher. i can't see belichick holding him back becuase he was afraid he'd get hurt. on that theory brady wouldn't have taken a snap in the second half.

i did see Maroney dancing around in the backfield again early in the game and nearly smashed my plasma. so, unless he had some sort of a mystery injury, my own GUESS is that BB gave Eckel and Evans a chance to show what they could do and gave Maroney some time to think about what he was doing. i know LM scored a TD on a six yard run, but the hole looked big enough to drive a tank through.

I agree. He was not in the correct position. The linemen all looked around like huh?

Dont bother with the homers. Forget that Maroney was the 22 pick in the draft. Forget that he has done nothing since week 13 last year. He is doing great

Maroney did a fine job last year of pounding the ball until he got injured. He ran the ball effectively between the tackles and outside the tackles.

Maroney, though, is not and never has been a POWER back. What you are describing is a power back in the mold of Bettis or Dillon. Maroney's style is closer to a finesse back in the mold of a Barry Sanders or Marshall Faulk.

One of the things we all have to remember is that BB has clearly changed how he handles injuries. And Maroney is proof of that.

Also, it needs to be mentioned that RBs take a much bigger pounding than a QB and that is another reason why BB gave Eckel and Evans the ball with a 35-7 lead.
