Maroney is hurt already

Serious question, not meant to be snide.......Have you ever played sports at a level higher than little league?

Actually college football. Maroneys injury was not SO SEVERE that a normal athlete (none pro) could not walk , yet Lo Mo could play NFL games with it last year  L mo was hurt and he was in pain, but you need to stop hyping him like is some superhuman freak. He is a young strong 225lb athlete who is injured way to much for the amount of times he carries the ball. We are not talking about some old guy here. This is a young strong athlete.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict more panic, delightfully inflamed by the media, when Maroney is again on the injury report. And serious talk about the Kyle Eckel era beginning, when Maroney doesn't play against the Browns in a home game.

At Dallas, Maroney will reappear, tear up the field and there'll be something else to panic about. So it goes.

Meanwhile, I'm delighted that Morris is looking so great and the Oline + 2TE running game has successfully beaten every defense into submission by the 4th qtr. There is no better game plan that simply beating the crap out of your opponent at the LOS.

I doubt Maroney plays vs. the Brownies. Save him for Dallas. Morris looks like a worthy replacement for the short term.

Morris on WEEI: Maroney was optimistic, wanted to play. Morris says he found out he was starting "when you [the media] did." Not sure if that's the whole truth, but it sure doesn't sound like Maroney was that far from playing.

Exactly. I'd thought that was kind of obvious, but the chicken littles and simpletons who are so desperate to have been proven correct that somehow LoMar is "fragile," jumped on it like frantic little boys. Whatever. They'll see.

I don't believe that Maroney will play against the Browns. He's not needed and a groin injury is EASILY aggravated esp as a cutback runner. Maroney out until Dallas is why BB activated Eckel from the PS. I'm glad to see Eck with the team. Two summers ago I thought he was a young upgrade from an aging, marginal Patrick Pass and hated to see him cut than scooped up by Satan on the Phins. We can thank the Phins clueless org for The Wanker, Morris and Eckel just this season.

Right now it is still early but not irrational to question the durability of last year's 1st two picks, Maroney and Chad Jackson.

And to the poster who mentioned Big Sey, it is a fact that Seymour has had continuing problems staying on the field throughout his career.

Ok, but you know from playing that those of us who do play sports at the College level and above often end up playing on injuries that would lay up most people. It's just the nature of the beast. I can remember playing on a sprained ankle that had me using crutches when I wasn't playing or practicing, and that didn't make me stand out as anyone special.

Flashback: ahhh.... the joys of 'stim'.....

I think we're getting close to the point where questions about Maroney's fragility and what that might mean for what we expect of him are fair game, but I'm not ready to go there yet. For now, I'm willing to take the view that BB decided to give him some extra rest because he felt the team was facing a depleted LB unit and could pound enough without him, but would have had him in there against the Colts, etc.

But, we do need an every game back who is a game threat that other teams have to game-plan for and who can consistently produce 70+ yards a game and rotate with a Morris. One of the main benefits of a Receivers' unit that spreads the field is to open up the box for a premier RB. Conversely, the Receivers need a back who forces the defensive backfield to stay home. If it turns out that Maroney isn't that guy, then the Pats will have to get a Plan B this offseason.

Well stated. And, in the case of Jackson, probably generous.

There is nothing more I want then Maroney to blow up and to have all his talent come on full circle. But lets be honest , you guys dont cringe everytime he gets hit hard? I know I do. Given his injury history thus far... Thats all Im saying. Saying he has injury issues is not unfair IMO.

I don't think Maroney is any more injury prone than Moss. He likely practiced all week anticipating a start yesterday, so I don't think his groin is that much o a problem. Belichick probably figured earlier on that Morris was going to start, but didn't reveal his decision till the last minute.

Ahem..... Mr Maroney, can we get on the field soon???

AND STAY THERE

I don't think it is a big problem...they wish to be sure he is ready when playing Dallas...also, it's a LONG season and we don't wish to wear him out early..

I agree. I just think the kid lacks toughness. Look at the kid in indy. How many games he miss? I know every human body is different, but why cant Maroney stay on the field? Yea we can rest him and split duty with Morris and Faulk. But this was supposed to be our feature back. Our first round pick. Some people are making excuses for him. All the big time backs get 20 plus carries a game. Maroney needs to step up.

We got a guy who is tougher and at this point a better runner in free agency.

It would seem Maroney is injury prone, stating so doesn't mean one is in a panic or is being insulting. In the words of BB "it is what it is".

Who needs him, we have Super Sammy Morris. That MOFO is like a train coming through the line. I love the way he runs.

You are right on this one...Morris has been kicking it!

Since the Pats do not talk about injuries, isn't it a bit unfair to suggest that he might not be doing all he can to get on the field?

Maybe the Evil Genius is holding him out in a close case.

Now I do have to disagree with you in your statement questioning Maroney's "toughness".....He played most of last year with a torn "rib muscle and rib cartilage" Do you have any idea HOW PAINFUL that is? I broke several ribs and have bruised them as well....and let me tell you brother....that is one of the MOST PAINFUL injuries you can have...never mind having to carry the rock with that kind of injury!!!!!

Nope....This kid is PLENTY TOUGH......Just needs to rest up and come back 100% !!!!!!!!!! GO PATS!!!!
