Now that you have seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

Back in March, I posted a thread that Randy was easily worth a 1st round pick, based on his ability to open up the Offense for everyone else. The majority of you mocked me for that.

I'm glad we got to keep our first rounder, and it only cost us a 4th-round pick.

But after seeing him today, If the only way we could have gotten him was to give in and give a 1st round pick, would you do it?

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

No. He had too much baggage. 1st round talent and 4th round baggage. He quit on the Raiders. There's no way you give up a 1st rounder given his history.

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

I thought they should've traded a 1st last year at the trade deadline. In retrospect, it's possible Moss would've put them over the top. Of course, he probably wouldn't have changed his contract for that.

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

I've always been in the group that would have traded a first rounder for Moss (check the old threads) as I think he is worth it, but I can understand why many were skeptical.

In fact, I think many here would still say they would not trade a first rounder for him, and I can't blame them. Moss does carry some baggage that cannot go overlooked just because of one great game.

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

Knowing what I know now I would have traded the first rounder. At the time I thought the fourth was a steal. I was unsure how Randy would fit our offense. I was unsure of Randy Moss. I wouldn't have made the first round trade then, but I would have thought long and hard about it.

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

At the time? No he wasn't imo. Noone had seen a good game out of him in nearly 2 seasons. Whether it was the offense of the Raiders or him not wanting to play? How can you justify giving away a first rounder. If he has the success all season that he had for us today{this is too much to ask every week} then sure he is definetly worth a 1st rounder.

But again throwing away a first rounder is not taken very lightly in many organizations in the NFL. Especially for a guy who hadn't had a good game in 2 years. Don't get me wrong I loved his performance today and hope he continues all season long. Just another Patriot doing great things with his opportunities.

Re: Now that u seen Moss in action, would you have traded a 1st round pick?

Considering that Chad Jackson was a second rounder, a fourth rounder for Moss was a flat out steal.

I said "no", but not because Moss isn't good enough. I just think a first round pick has the potential to help for many years to come, even if Moss re-ups we're probably looking at 4 years tops.

After today, I didn't hear anyone saying "Moss can't run routes, he doesn't fit in with the pats"

And no one is saying it's gonna take time for Brady and Moss to get this offense down, Thats what people said for 8 weeks about Caldwell and Gabriel.

For a 1-year contract? No way.

But how many 1st round picks are bust in this league, and i know the pats have a great track record, and i probably wouldn't have given a 1st round pick if we didn't have two.

Randy had a great game today, but Randy is fragile. Mess him up, and he is gone. The Chargers put out his lights last year.

First round pick...no way. Randy is a year-to-year project who should have the performance money written into the contract. Play big, earn big.

Let's have this poll around week 10. Moss looked incredible today, but it is one game where Brady had all day to throw. Let's see him over the course of a season before we say he is first round pick worthy. Let's see him next week against a team that is bound to get a lot more pressure on Brady and see how he does. I'm not saying he won't have a great year, but today could be very deceptive in what we will get in him since Brady was never pressured in the slightest giving Moss plenty of time to get down field on several plays.

If we Moss can put up similiar numbers against some of the better defenses we face, then he is definitely worth a first. I don't think the Jets will be anywhere near the top of defenses by the end of the season.

Not trying to trash Moss, but I don't know if this is a good indication what we will see for the rest of the year or not.

The Reason Brady had all day to throw is cuz the Jets had to play Zone, and double and tripple Randy.

Let's not get our undies in a bunch after one (admittedly great) game. He may be this great all year long and he not be. And he may be healthy all year or not. And finally, even if he is great for ONE year (Corey Dillon, anyone?) does not mean he will be the same player next year, or that he will be here next year. A first round draft pick is on the team for five to six years.

The Raiders were still stuck with a high-priced lemon because Moss' relationship with them was wrecked. What he does for us and what he would have done for them are two different things altogether. So they had to sell low and if the Pats didn't capitalize, they'd be chumps. Sure Kraft is the nicest guy in the world to widows and orphans; but if you run a Billion-dollar business any other way than cut-throat, take no prisoners, you end up with a million-dollar business.

They tried to blitz Brady, but the o-line picked it up perfectly. I think you are giving Moss too much credit and our o-line not enough.

The answer to this question largely depends on whether or not winning the SB right away is most important factor in acquiring a player. If it is then Moss is easily worth a 1st, and probably a couple of them. If other factors are more important than winning the SB then I suppose he's not worth it.

It wasn't the only reason but having Moss out there was a VERY large reason why the Jets weren't able to scheme for attacking Brady as they might otherwise have done.

I suspect a great many defenses will be forced to do the same this year when they decide whether it's better to commit extra coverage to Moss or to use that extra player to get after Brady.

Whichever it is I'm very comfortable that it'll work out to the Pats advantage.
