Florio: Brady is the best ever

We are at the point where if you want to claim someone was better than Tom Brady you need to go back to QBs that very few people saw and that played an entirely different game.

Basically you need to bring up guys like Unitas, Graham, Tittle, Baugh and Starr just cause there isn't a lot of clean tape or easy ways to compare it so it muddies the issue.

You can play that game if you want but I think that just goes to show how over the debate it.

Personally when i rank QBs I rank the generally pre superbowl QBs and the post superbowl QBs separately cause I look at it as 2 different games and different athletic abilities of players at the time.

I'm still not sure where Otto Graham fits in all this, but for the era post-1960, it's a done deal.

By the way, I've been secretly working on an analysis (a tedious process) that normalizes stats for QBs across different eras (1939-2016) to give us all a better idea of where QBs from different eras fit in the pecking order. The biggest surprise so far is that Otto Graham's stats are still not world beating, but Sammy Baugh is a different story...so far.

Good thing you don't work for the CIA.

:p

Lulz at the comments for that article.

Here's a gem:

I’d say “no” for 2 reasons…

1) spygate (the bulk of his legacy (3 of his SB’s) occured while this cheating was happening)

This idiot doesn't realize that it was legal during that timeframe.

Unfortunately, that is another area that has never been cleaned up nor confirmed for non Pats fans that have not done any homework regarding our "gate" scandals. The other in this case is the walk through tapes. That's why we continue dealing with the label we do. Not one single media person is willing to take the NYJFL to task on either situation and show the world how badly we have been treated, compared, to say, a habitual tampering team such as the Jets.

I wonder how Pete Prisco feels about Brady compared to Manning now? He can't stand BB or Brady. He had a radio show in Jax moons ago, and he lit up the Pats any chance he could get. The worst guy on radio I've ever heard.

Funny how the difference between Florio's take on Deflategate compared to spygate is like night and day.

If you saw a governing body take a minor incident that may not have even happened, blow it out of proportion, feed misinformation to the media and orchestrate an "investigation" that confirmed all of their pre-investigation beliefs in order to railroad someone, it would be completely reasonable to look back on other incidents and wonder if they might have behaved the same way with those.

Put another way, if someone thinks deflategate was a farce, they should be wondering if what they were told about spygate was, at a minimum, embellished.

John Harbaugh also said it in one of the articles linked at the top.

“He’s very tough to compete against,” Harbaugh said. “The best quarterback that’s played, certainly in this era, without question in my mind. That’s how I would rank him. And it’s just another tough challenge to have to play against him.”

.....Not that I give a crap about what that f***er thinks.

"Spygate arguably has more of an impact on how Brady is remembered because: (1) #DeflateGate is a red herring; and (2) he benefited directly from ill-gotten advance knowledge of the defensive plays. But that was nearly a decade ago, and Brady has been as good if not better since then."

Jeez .... since when did CameraPlacementGate become ill gotten advance knowledge of defensive plays?
Why is this guy misrepresenting facts? Wasn't he around at the time? How exactly does that advance knowledge happen. And what does some camera have to do with Brady? Disgusting!

Disgusting!

Thinking back on it now, Florio was heavily invested in spygate being the worst thing in history of mankind. On the weekend of SB 42, someone asked Ron Jaworksi what he thought about spying and stealing signals and Ron said he was okay with it. Florio was incredulous by Jaworski's response, saying it like being "okay" with murder.

That viewpoint, along with his habit over the years of using any negative Patriots headline as clickbait, is why Florio's rational view of deflategate has been such a pleasant surprise.

Florio is still Florio.

As soon as I stopped caring what others think my life improved dramatically. It's the best free advice I can give.

This part is unsubstantiated rumor mongering. Boooooo Mike.
he benefited directly from ill-gotten advance knowledge of the defensive plays.

That's great but if you post your results and I see that somehow you factored in "the eye test" and factored out AFCCG wins I'm going to puke. :D

Heh, well, I have been subjecting my results to the "common sense" test to see if I need to tweak anything, but if I factored in the "eye test", Brady wins in a landslide. The only other truly great QBs I've ever seen were Joe Montana and Dan Marino. Favre, Manning, Brees, Elway, Rberger, etc are in the "very very good" class of QBs...by my "eye test".

But in this case, I'm gonna let the numbers play out. Who knows what I'll find?

Would you care to tell us more? :)

I don't wanna get too far into the weeds and I plan to post a full methodology when I'm done with this abomination, but the basic premise is that I'm going to normalize the stats of past QBs according to numbers drawn from the most recent complete season. There are several other factors I will take into consideration, such as season length, and in a later version, I may attempt to further factor dome vs. warm weather, vs. foul weather performance and further normalize for that.

Good thing you don't work for the CIA.

:p

Heh, with my level of OPSEC here, I'd fit right in with the Navy SEALS.

There is no difference whatsoever. Somebody like Bill Belichick is the last person who would jeopardize a game by breaking rules. Ditto for Brady. It's not snobbery, it's just fact.

There's not one member of the mediots in the entire world who's at least casually examined the reports, who after nine years can publicly declare the fact that the Patriots never cheated, in any way shape or form?

It must be a requirement that anyone seeking employment in the media reporting field must first be a total moron. That's why there are literally minutes of total silence at BB press conferences where nobody has a single simple question to ask.

This just in! From CNN, whatever: The New England Patriots never cheated in any way, shape or form. This is in direct contrast to the Raiders, Broncos, Dolphins etc. And, those who believed the nonsense are total morons who have zero interest in facts.
