Reiss explains Jabaal Sheard benching

No I am "taking the approach" that the initial reaction was that ID was an extraordinary move to leave him home and we have now learned through Reiss that the common practice is that 3-4 healthy inactives get left home.

So all of the speculation about "not only is he inactive they even went so far as to leave him home in an unprecedented move" was incorrect.

It's got to be hard work to be this obtuse.

Dude. you know damn well what i said. either youre being disingenuous or youre really a knucklehead. as i said before-bb was protecting sheard by not telling the media that he was benched for poor play. and again, as i said twice before , sheard would be grateful that bb didnt throw him under the bus to the media, as many other hc's have done. With that, im done repeating myself. Yes, it was hysteria. kinda like a lot of your posts. im done.

Do you think "as I said before" helps make a silly point better? But I am glad you're done.

First of all, breathe. The random "i" at the end there makes it seem like you had a stroke.

You say how much you hate "speculation" then make the weird suggestion that Sheard would be grateful for being benched and left behind in Boston. That's dopey. It's not a question of Belichick throwing someone "under the bus," but it's hardly protecting the player to do what he did. Nor do I care about that, he's doing what he feels is best for the team. But at least understand what he did. You and @AndyJohnson are taking a strange "nothing to see here, folks" attitude toward a situation which is anything but typical. The conversation around the move wasn't hysteria, but completely expected speculation and discussion.

Are you just being a douchebag because you are wrong or does it come natural.

Please go ahead and show me any comment from anyone in this board that they knew healthy inactives are routinely left behind before Reiss reported it.

Didnt see that. Im surprised by curran. I read reiss every day and i know he never posted anything like that. I just lost some respect for curran

Reiss speculates too, by the way. You can't do straight reporting if you're covering the Patriots. Belichick makes that impossible.

If you can't bother to write coherently I won't bother to respond to you.

Sheard being inactive is one thing. being left behind because he didnt play well is another. I dont know of another instance this happened .

Well that's the thing. Contra the narrative, Reiss says otherwise. See his story. And some of his replies to reader tweets today:

Hi Scott. Usually 3-4 healthy inactives won't travel to games. Not enough space on plane etc. Foster, Coleman, Sheard this week.

and

Hi Rich, just talking facts here, not opinion. 3-4 healthy inactive players generally don't travel each week.

A player of Sheard's stature not making the trip isn't remotely common.
It's about as common as being a healthy scratch.
Left behind was not an additional sign.

Correct. A player of Sheard's stature being a healthy scratch is uncommon and worthy of discussion. Glad we agree.

We agreed on that before you started being a douchebag.
my point was that the discussion about "it must be really bad if he is not only inactive but didn't make the trip" was wrong. And I was clear about that.
You can apologize at any time.

I just hope it lights a fire under him. Coleman too.

Whats getting ignored in the Sheard stuff is the guy playing in his place got a sack and played pretty solid.
Flowers is becoming what sheard was supposed to be.
If sheard gets his head screwed on straight he can be depth plus a NASCAR package guy.

The point here is that it is uncommon with a player of Sheard's stature. Reiss' column is sort of dense on that point as well. And watch the potty mouth, honey.

Very rare for a bb coached team to have this type of uncertainty in the defense this late in the year.

Makes me think that bb is sending specific messages to specific players,

Now over the course of the next several weeks, we get to see who will respond and who packs up his toys and goes home.

No that is not the point here at all.
Healthy inactives are left at home consistently. Many comments and guesses and theories and speculative hysteria occurred on this board under the assumption that it was unprecedented to leave a healthy inactive at home.
The fact that you pull this bs about stature shows you know you are wrong.
At that point you acted like a douchebag. You should apologize if you have integrity.

I liked that article by Reiss. He put the smack down on some of the speculation and spoke with years of experience covering Belichick. Sadly he isn't as nearly as prolific as he was ~5 years ago but when he speaks up like that, you know he means it.

On another note, some of you are getting pretty mad online. Keep it up, we're all riveted by who wins the argument and it's not derailing the thread at all.
